ClodplayColdplay[edit]

The result of the debate was Keep. Lenticel (talk) 00:56, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unusable redirect which is not invaluable to the project. It isnt the name of anything and its not a common misspelling of the name. — Moe ε 12:03, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - looks like a plausible typo to me. And perhaps you didn't really mean "invaluable." --Russ (talk) 13:53, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok, *not invaluable, but I digress, how is it a common typo of Coldplay? Google search pulls up results for clodplay, but how does someones typo on a semi-notable site which made a few hits count as a plausible typo? Who does this typo benefit? — Moe ε 16:17, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sure, it's easy to see that there's some word play going on here (sorry), but on the other hand, "O" and "L" are adjacent on QWERTY keyboards and use the same finger, so it doesn't seem far-fetched that some users might type them in the wrong order. --Russ (talk) 18:06, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • So if that 'QWERTY' proof is correct why did the person who created this redirect also create the redirect Coldpaly to Coldplay, they are no where near eachother on a QWERTY keyboard. Lets face it, these typos aren't plausible, if the words sounded or were pronounced similar, I would agree, but that is ludacris. Really? Clodplay? Coldpaly? It isnt hard to pronounce the name of the band Coldplay and these aren't words that are normally confused in the English language, nor are they actual words that could be confused with. — Moe ε 03:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Redirects are cheap, plausible typo per above QWERTY proof, even though I don't use conventional typing methods. :) DA PIE EATER (talk) 22:55, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep- Plausible typo, though like DA PIE EATER, i don't type like a normal person. Kivar2 (talk) 20:14, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep It doesn't matter, many people don't type correctly and look at the keyboard while typing, so it's very plausible--Serviam (talk) 19:08, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher CandyJohn Candy[edit]

The result of the debate was Deleted. Stub would have qualified for db-bio anyway. -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:53, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name doesn't appear in target article. While sister Jennifer meets WP:BIO as a television producer, John Candy's son does not. Christopher's name and his mother's name appear in earlier editions of the target article, but they are not in the current one. B.Wind (talk) 11:40, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nothing personal, but I believe that when you redirect a stub, then nominate the redirect for deletion, it should go to AfD. -- Ned Scott 06:31, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • A little history is in order to put everything in context. I had boldly redirected the stub a week before this RfD because I thought at the time that the redirection would be more appropriate. The redirected article did not assert notability aside from his familial relationships (his father's and sister's notability are not inherited). When I started going through a list of redirects - over 500 of them! - created by a now-banned editor (see Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2008 June 4), I thought it best not to bundle this in a mass deletion discussion and to present it for discussion on its own merits or (de)merits. If the closing admin believes that reverting to the stub and then sending to AfD would be more proper, it will be done, but I must also point out that expanding the former stub to show WP:BIO and overwriting the redirect are actually encouraged here. MashkovThe Italian Job[edit]

The result of the debate was Withdrawn, Mashkov was retargeted and Yevhen was converted to Disambig. Lenticel (talk) 00:54, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect title seems to be the name of a character in the movie, but does not appear in the target article at all. With the same justification, I also nominate for consideration YevhenThe Italian Job. B.Wind (talk) 11:04, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Withdrawing nomination of Mashkov - it has been retargeted to Ilya Mashkov. B.Wind (talk) 11:12, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Note. I have not withdrawn YevhenThe Italian Job, and I'm not recommending a fast close of this discussion in the hope that a few editors would voice opinions on this one (per the top of the RfD page, the default is to delete if no one comments on it). B.Wind (talk) 23:20, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A similar approach should probably be taken with Yevhen: it is a Ukrainian name, so should probably be turned into a disambiguation page between the articles we have under that name (I can find Yevhen Petrushevych and Yevhen Hrebinka). Terraxos (talk) 23:42, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Angela MeansList of characters in the Friday series#Felicia / Felisha[edit]

The result of the debate was Deleted except for Lisa Rodríguez which someone provided enough content for a stub. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:02, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is one of several redirects created by the same editor and pointing to various sections of the same list article. The twist is that the redirect pages are names of actors and the targets are Wikilinks to the actor redirects, making each a circular redirect. As there are other redlinked actors in the list, deletion of this and the redirects listed below will replace the useless circular redirects with useful redlinks. Other redirects in the set to be considered are:

B.Wind (talk) 10:40, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all - none of the redirects of names of the characters in the target list article, but the names of the actors who portrayed them instead, which means that these are circular redirects, which are harmful to Wikipedia because they would impede the creation of much-needed articles on the individual actors. While I would normally urge keeping the bluelinks, in this case redlinks are preferable. Delinking the page is about as desirable as keeping the circular links. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 22:29, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

????????List of Pokémon anime characters#Giovanni[edit]

The result of the debate was Speedy deleted per WP:CSD#R3 - implausible typo. Kevin (talk) 03:25, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All I can say about this is "????????" Surely this is the most improbable of improbable typos! Russ (talk) 09:51, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Speedy Delete per WP:PN DA PIE EATER (talk) 22:57, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Delete as nonsense. I'm pretty sure it isn't just an unsupported font in my PC as I can see Chinese and Japanese symbols clearly.--Lenticel (talk) 00:30, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Instant delete. Copyvio, spam, random text, almost a vandalism.--Freewayguy Msg USC 03:08, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • If its instant delete use this {{csd}} pink tag.--Freewayguy Msg USC 03:12, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • (edit conflict) I can't tell if the redirect title is simply a string of question marks on my computer. If this is indeed the case, speedy delete CSD G1 or G2 as it could be interpreted as either a test page or patent nonsense. It can also be argued that a string of question marks could be vandalism as well (CSD G3). B.Wind (talk) 03:15, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oksana SagdiyevBorat[edit]

The result of the debate was Deleted. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:05, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Author has made a series of eight redirect pages pointed to an article about the fictional journalist. While it appears that they were created in good faith, the title of only one of the articles seems to be in the target (and thus not listed here). Also included in this nomination are the other six redirects don't seem to have their names in the Borat target article:

B.Wind (talk) 09:36, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - no obvious reason for these redirects. They're presumably very minor characters related to Borat, but they seem to be so non-notable the redirects are unnecessary. Terraxos (talk) 23:38, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dmitri SavelyevSéance[edit]

The result of the debate was Deleted. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:06, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the redirect's name is that of a character of a book or a film named Séance, which does not have an article... but the target article has nothing to do with that mode of entertainment; so Savelyev makes no appearance in the target article. B.Wind (talk) 09:24, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per mom or write new article as Dmitri Savelyev is the name of a former head of the Russian oil pipeline monopoly Transneft [1][2][3]who apparently did not wish to leave the organization (or his post) when he was removed from his position in 1999.147.70.242.40 (talk) 22:47, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Three category redirects created by a banned editor[edit]

The result of the debate was Deleted. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:07, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As we continue a review (and whittling down) of a huge list of redirects created by a now-banned editor (see Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2008 June 4/Hashmi list), three category redirects were encountered - these are listed below. Technically, all three categories are empty and have trivial history. If these were "regular" categories, they would have been speedily deleted (CSD C1) as being empty for four days; but I don't think CSD C1 applies here. I do not see the purpose of category redirects as they are not designed to contain any articles. In addition, we have WP:RfD for redirects and WP:CfD for categories - if the closing admin decides that CfD is the more appropriate venue for this, I request that he/she help move it there.
