Punk metal → Metalcore[edit]
Punk metal (if it exists) is far broader than metalcore which is a new and specific combination of punk and metal. Kameejl (Talk) 13:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Keep If someone were to type the term "punk metal" in the searchbox, what else would they be looking for. There are no other genres that even come close to the term "punk metal". It's a nomination based on technicality and not really a good reason to nominate a redirect. ThundermasterTRUC 15:15, 1 December 2007 (UTC) 14:50, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- comment they might be looking for deathcore, Thrashcore, crust punk, sludge metal, grindcore or any other punk/metal hybrid. Since NWOBHM a lot of punk/metal hybrids have risen. "There are no other genres that even come close to the term "punk metal"." is bias. Kameejl (Talk) 15:34, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Comment. The Punk Metal article was deleted per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Punk metal on 7 December, which is why it is now a redirect. Another suggested redirect target was Hardcore Punk, which might not be a bad redirect. ZZ Claims ~ Evidence 20:33, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- DeletePunk metal can refer to various genres that are fusions of punk and metal, as stated above, not just metalcore. I don't know of metalcore really being called punk metal as an alternative name anyway. If it should redirect to anything it should be crossover thrash which is part of the thrash metal article. Munci (talk) 02:36, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- Comment: What I'd like to add to this discussion is that this redirect directs us from a general topic (punk metal, a hybrid of 2 main genres) to the specific topic metalcore. These general to specific topic redirects often are no good idea. It's just like WW2 (World War II) would redirect to Battle of France, or Tree would redirect to Christmas tree. Just like these 2 examples, this redirect wouldn't really help the average reader, or even worse, it could mislead the average reader (one might think metalcore is the only or most important punk metal hybrid). It should be removed. Kameejl (Talk) 15:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Keep the punk metal article! Just fuck off about metalcore and punk metal being the same thing. Punk metal is according to me crossover thrash bands like Stormtroopers of Death and DRI, as well as very raw speed metal like Motörhead. Metalcore is a modern fad that I relate to post-hardcore, alternative metal, thrash metal, hardcore punk and emocore. Bands include Bullet for my Valentine and Trivium. If you're able to find a slight similarity in sound of, let's say, Stormtroopers of Death and Bullet for my Valentine, you're deaf, dumb or listen to rap music. And by the way, the genre of S.O.D at their info page now redirect to metalcore, something that pisses me of because it is incorrect and a fucking disgrace.
Remove that stupid shit. Punk metal is a genre on it's own, and it's far from metalcore. And don't even try to argue here because you all know that I'm right.--Gustav Lindwall (talk) 21:01, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Template:WP:UNI/TODO → Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities/to do[edit]
