The nominated redirect was All deleted. Having the red links means it is more likely people will notice they have included the punctuation in the link name and fix it when adding to an article. -- JLaTondre 14:04, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral, but note that this particular punctuation is plausible (but with double quotes, rather than single quotes as scare quotes). — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 17:58, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pneumonic devicesmnemonic[edit]

The nominated redirect was redirected to pneumonic device after that redirect was stubbed. BigNate37(T) 08:55, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very misleading. "Pneumonic" has to do with breath; "mnemonic" has to do with memory. A pneumonic device would be somthing like a respirator or a ventilator, but the phrase doesn't seem used that way at all. Wasell 07:51, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I had not begun this page; however, I do advocate that there would be some sort of homophone disambiguation. Hopiakuta 08:16, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, totally unrelated term. Kusma (討論) 10:16, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to Iron lung or Medical ventilator. BigNate37(T) 16:08, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This should not redirect to "Mnemonic" directly, as this is not correct. I'm not sure if Wikipedia is designed as a guide for the linguistically perplexed, but if so, a stub article should be inserted here indicating that the phrase "pneumonic devices" is at times erroneously used instead of "mnemonic devices". A simple redirect provides no obvious indication to the reader that the phrase is wrong, and would give rise to the impression that it is some sort of valid alternative. Finally, as the words have different pronunciations, I'm not sure if they are actually homophones. - David Oberst 18:35, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a "spelling-mistake" redirect. We have thousands of such redirects. The existence of the redirect for a misspelling does not imply an endorsement of the mistake, merely a correction of it. However, it probably should be tagged with {{R from misspelling}}. Rossami (talk) 10:29, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment this term actually includes devices like the iron lung, being that it basically means breathing devices. While redirects from misspelling are OK, we don't want redirects from misspellings that actually spell another term for which we have information in some article. BigNate37(T) 18:31, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Iron lung - pneumatic. Pneumonic - favorite third-grade misspelling. - CrazyRussian talk/email 01:17, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Keep per CrazyRussian. Appearantly, I can't spell either. BigNate37(T) 01:19, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Wait, no. I still think it ought to redirect to iron lung as above, or maybe be a disambig to iron lung, medical ventilator, and possibly include similarly spelled words such as mnemonic and pneumatic. Pneumatic means of or relating to air or other gases. Pneumonic means of or relating to the lungs. The word pneumatic has nothing to do with this redirect, pneumonic is actually a real word, and we have articles on different pneumatic devices. BigNate37(T) 01:28, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep (per wikt:pneumonic), but change target to Respiratory therapy. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 18:07, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Propose replacing pneumonic device with User:BigNate37/Pneumonic device and redirecting pneumonic devices there. BigNate37(T) 15:18, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Agree. BigNate's proposal seems to cover all possible disagreements. (I'm new here. Should I strike out my original proposal, or what?) --Wasell 15:47, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • You can't withdraw a nomination after discussion has started. You can, however, for nominations which have no comments (see Wikipedia:Speedy keep). Of course, you can always change your mind. BigNate37(T) 15:57, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • As this is a RfD, if User:BigNate37 would just change the redirect to his copy, the closing admin would probably close the matter as moot. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 18:36, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
          • I'll wait for the discussion to continue (or stagnate) for a bit, and then if there are no serious objections I'll close this (you don't need to be an admin) as outside the purview of RfD and take it to requested pagemoves (there is already two editors in the history for my prototype, so GFDL mandates that this is not a copy-paste job).
