Hurricane Igor[edit]

Original - Hurricane Igor near peak intensity as a high-end Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale.

I believe that this image would be suitable as a Featured Picture because not only was the hurricane notable, but this image captures the monster near its absolute peak intensity.

  • The eye is partially covered with clouds, and it's slightly ellipses-ed-shaped; also, the outer band's aren't brilliant enough. if this went through FPC, I would oppose. Sorry. HurricaneFan25 15:15, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • It is a Category 4 hurricane, not a Category 5. Of course it isn't going to have a perfect structure. -- TropicalAnalystwx13 (talk) 20:51, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • One main concern brought up with any tropical cyclone FPC is the multitude of high-quality satellite images available. This is a very well-developed storm that was caught at its prime by MODIS, something that doesn't happen often. Structurally, there are few flaws with the storm and I have to counter the argument brought up by HFan. They eye is quite circular and mostly cloud-free at the surface. What you're seeing is the stadium effect, something often seen in powerful hurricanes where there is some cloud cover from the top of the storm over the eye. That said, it is likely that this wont pass FPC on en.wikipedia (speaking from experience here) but I would wholeheartedly support it. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 20:55, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
