Portal:Nigeria/News[edit]

Portal:Nigeria/News (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

It's not news if its over 10 years old. Abandoned and just makes the portal look bad. The last MfD [1] did not lead to any solution that worked. Legacypac (talk) 05:56, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment – it doesn't make the portal look bad, because it was delinked from the portal in accordance with the previous MfD, in 2008.    — The Transhumanist   00:29, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Click the link User:SmokeyJoe Is that a solution? Legacypac (talk) 06:06, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. It is a sufficient short term solution, no more reader bad impact, and I trust User:The Transhumanist to clean up all these things eventually into a useful archive. It all project history and I oppose deletion of project history. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:10, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

All regional current events portal pages were shut down ten years ago Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/Current_events:_Regional_pages I object to sending readers there Legacypac (talk) 06:12, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the old news it is displaying, it has even more in its edit history. By renaming the page, this historical data of the portal will not be lost, and readers will be able to read the old news if they want. Such as if they are interested in history, a valid research objective and one that Wikipedia strongly supports.
The Portals WikiProject has just been rebooted a few days ago, after years of dormancy, and now has 45 members, with more joining daily. We are very serious about revitalizing the entire portal system, and are in the midst of design discussions on providing news feeds to supply Portals' news subpages. One possibility is User:JJMC89 bot/Wikinews importer, which runs hourly, but we are exploring other options as well.
So, please do not delete the News subpages that have outdated news that should be archived in the News archive subpages. The Nigeria portal conveniently doesn't have a News archive subpage, and so this one can easily be renamed to that.
Legacypac, I respectfully request that you withdraw your nomination. And then rename the page to Portal:Nigeria/News archive (or let me do it). Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   11:40, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are free to rename it and delete the redirect. Legacypac (talk) 11:46, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Legacypac: I asked for an admin to close the discussion, because the "nominator has agreed to withdraw", and the question was returned: "Where have they explicitly stated this?" So, before the discussion can be closed so I can rename it and delete the redirect, I guess we need you to state explicitly that you withdraw.    — The Transhumanist   22:30, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did not withdraw I agreed you could rename and delete the redirect. No more page at this title. Legacypac (talk) 22:48, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Legacypac, after it is renamed, the redirect can be speedied or RfD'd, which I will be happy to request. The deletion notification on the page states: "You are welcome to edit this page, but please do not blank, merge, or move it, or remove this notice, while the discussion is in progress. For more information, see the Guide to deletion." Therefore, it has to be closed first. You said I am free to rename and delete the redirect, but in order for you to make me free to do that, there's another step you need to take... I respectfully request that you withraw your nomination, so that it can be renamed to Portal:Nigeria/News archive. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   23:57, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well we don't need another doscussion at RfD we can conclude the matter here. Enough words have been spilled on it. Transhumanist placed the silly freeze everything tags so if they are in the way of common sense he can ignore his own tag. No objection from me. Legacypac (talk) 02:01, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
