Portal:Existentialism[edit]

Portal:Existentialism (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Abandoned portal.

This one was created in January 2011 by Wandering Courier (talk · contribs), with 5 selected articles, 5 selected biog, 2 selected quotes, and nothing else. @Wandering Courier hasn't edited since 2013, but since 2011 nothing has been done to this portal except the usual formatting changes to the front page, and some minor disambiguation etc on a few of the subpages listed at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Existentialism.

Ten subpages isn't the worst, but it's still only half the minimum of twenty. And the portal is deeply unsatisfying. The lengthy head article Existentialism (rated C-Class but probably should be higher) is a fine overview of the topic, with a handy structure which summarises major themes and eras and a fairly good navbox at Template:Existentialism. Per WP:PORTAL, "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects", but this is feels like a diminished version of head article, deficient in every respect.

I suppose that it could in theory be expanded, but 8 years of neglect indicates clearly that editors want to put their energies elsewhere. I surprised to see that the portal get 10 pageviews per day, That's a little less than the median of 12 views/day for all current portals, but I don't like the idea of even 10 readers a day being lured to a page which offers so much less than the head article and feels fundamentally pointless.

I recommend just delete it. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:21, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - If human existence is essentially meaningless, should we have meaningless portals? Robert McClenon (talk) 22:33, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - No. This is an abandoned heritage portal that has shown that it isn't being maintained. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:33, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. It's a big, interesting topic, though besides the bios it's hard to see how a portal would help to explore it; possibly my ignorance. Stats of 5 articles, 5 bios plus some ancillary material are better than nothing but don't meet the threshold. Is anyone willing to update and expand? Has Wikiproject Philosophy been informed? • Delete - Old draft of a portal, 24 subpages, created 2009-01-28 06:20:36 by User:Wandering Courier. With FIVE articles and FIVE Bios, this draft never reached the threshold of existence. No need to kill anything, this draft never became alive. User:Waggers will be satisfied! Portal:Existentialism. Pldx1 (talk) 21:56, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to Portal:Philosophy. I'm not sure the scope is sufficient for a portal in this subject on its own, but could be persuaded otherwise. WaggersTALK 11:42, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
