What's going on?

A few months back, someone posted a picture on the page to illustrate "Linux Advocacy". I recently noticed the change. I feel the image is inappropriate, and I have taken all the standard measures to discuss it; other editors strongly disagree with me. I made three reverts with explanation; they were reverted back. This appears to be a "hot button" issue for me, and I have a hard time discussing it rationally on the talk page, although I've tried. I also tried asking on Village pump (assistance).

Specifically, the image is of a naked woman being body-painted. I have no problem at all with the image being on the Body painting page - that's where it's appropriate. I believe it's inappropriate here because:
-nudity is not necessary for the context of the article.
-body painting is not actually a method of advocacy; the picture is being defended for purient reasons.
-the woman in the picture isn't "advocating" - at best she's being painted for an advertisement. Personally it appears to me that the picture may have been taken without her consent, as she's not actually modelling.
-this page might likely be used for business reference where the inappropriate picture would make the article unusable.

What would you like to change about that?

I feel the image should be removed. If indeed body painting is a method of advocacy, replacement with a non-nude image would be fine as a compromise, but I don't believe this will be found.

Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?

Does not matter.

You need to correct the date on this one. 2007 hasn't happened yet. --Ideogram 16:47, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

<insert laugh here>Article needed a move too. :-p Torinir ( Ding my phone My support calls E-Support Options ) 17:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Compromise offers[edit]

This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.

If it's possible, an alternative image may be usable in place of the nude to illustrate bodypaint in OS advocacy. Torinir ( Ding my phone My support calls E-Support Options ) 20:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
