Basic information[edit]

Comprehensive edits analysis
The sockmaster account WorldCreaterFighter was first created in January 2013. Despite receiving an indefinite ban for copyright infringement in April 2015, amongst additional edit warring and disruptive editing warnings, this user remains active on Wikipedia in a multitude of languages with both sockpuppet user accounts and IPs and has since been tied to over 100 confirmed and suspected sock user accounts on the English Wikipedia alone.

Targeted areas, pages, themes[edit]

Mainly attacks articles within the realms of history, genetics, and linguistics as it concerns nations and ethnic groups throughout Asia, with a particular emphasis on topics that concern Turkey, Korea, and Japan. Sock names attempt to give the impression of varying ethnicities.

Habitual behavior[edit]

Has a tendency to utilize IP-block evasion tactics. The nuances of their ideology can only be better understood through a thorough analysis of their edits, but general observations of their modus operandi include:

  • Adamantly anti-Altaic, anti-Turanist, anti-Mongolic, and anti-Turkic stance – likely the highest confidence indication of this user
  • Consensus on their obsession with fringe genetic theories, and topics associated with Japan and Korea and their ancient origins, and consistently very defensive and insistent that their information is the most reliable
  • User:JohnBlackburne noted 'badly written, voluminous, and argumentative edit summaries' and 'wanton reverting' that frequently sparks edit wars
  • Other users in the investigation pointed out ad hominem attacks through IP socks
  • Often (though not always) bold and WP:POV edits, with either large additions [of content in favor of viewpoint] or deletions [of existing prose that conflicts with viewpoint] opposing Altaic theory
  • Tone of edits tend to come off as speaking on behalf of certain ethnic groups – for instance, several examples of inserting mentions of specific animosity towards Turks and Turkey and support towards Kurds, Kurdistan, and recognition of the Armenian Genocide such as in the South Korea–Turkey relations page
  • Furthermore, has persistently attempted to completely remove entire well-sourced paragraphs indicative of positive relations/collaborations between Turkey and Korea or Japan despite neutral POV, also known to have added detailed explanations of insults and slurs describing Turks or Mongols
  • Exact motives and nature of biases unclear and enigmatic
  • Strong opinions in China-related edits led some in sockpuppet investigation to initially speculate Chinese nationalism
  • Common thread of edits aiming to distance the Korean and Japanese languages and peoples away from certain groups that could allow for Altaic interpretations
  • Sockpuppet userpage evidence of strong bias in favor of Austronesian/Dravidian-based theory for genetic and linguistic origin in ancient Japan and Korea, also noted in investigation
  • Known for holding numerous strong opinions on very particular aspects of all kinds of East and Central Asian linguistic, genetic, and historic associations, all of which tend to favor a pro-Southeast Asian/Austronesian alignment such as for the origins of the Jomon and Ainu peoples
  • A series of extremely thorough blog posts (though organized somewhat erratically and potentially unreliable) presented many accounts of evidence that behaviors and views very similar to this user are seen on various other internet platforms such as Quora and YouTube, also with a large number of sockpuppet aliases, and even accused certain active Wikipedia users (some of whom have checkuser or administrator privileges) of involvement or responsibility

Cases[edit]

  • Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/WorldCreaterFighter
  • WorldCreaterFighter, CentralAuth page for sockmaster
  • 일성강, CentralAuth page for pseudo-Korean sockpuppet '일성강' with edits on Commons and on Wikipedia in 13 other languages besides English, including the German Wikipedia where it is also banned indefinitely
  • Kumasojin 熊襲, CentralAuth page for sockpuppet 'Kumasojin 熊襲'
  • Satoshi Kondo, CentralAuth page for sockpuppet 'Satoshi Kondo'
  • Satoshi Kondo sock on Commons, which remained active until globally blocked in June 2020, admits to sockmaster being based in London. They further claim not only that they manage several administrator accounts across Wikipedia and such a large amount of socks that a loss of up to 10 would be considered inconsequential, but also that they have an arsenal of IPs at their disposal in numerous countries. Austria, Germany, Turkey, Iran, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Canada are supposedly among these.

Other notes[edit]

Is similar in nature to the Tirgil34 case but with clashing and essentially opposite viewpoints/agendas.

Possibly related to the LightFromABrightStar case, since they have shown similar interest in the genetics and origins of Turkic and other central Asian and east Asian people (especially minorities within China) and interracial marriage/sex (especially relating to East Asian females).
