Question on Procedures[edit]

Is there a format for giving barnstars, I'm not good with images, so I can't figure out how to give them. Help! Howabout1 23:16, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

How?[edit]

If I want to give some a barn star, do I just give it, or should do I request that it be given to someone?

Nah - you just post it on their talk page with a little note saying why you're giving it to them. There's no process or ceremony, which is part of its charm, I think. – Clockwork Soul 03:25, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cooperation with Esperanza?[edit]

There is a proposal for cooperation between the two groups, as we pretty much try to do the same thing. The idea has received support on the Esperanza side of the equation, but we haven't heard from this side much. So, would you be interested in something like what KnowledgeOfSelf proposes? We're sure interested in helping you. In order to not have discussions scattered all over the place, could we discuss that in Esperanza's talk page? Thanks! I would agree with a long-term joint-venture, but I quite disagree against a merging. KC and ESP does similar things, but in comparison KC is looser while ESP has an intense structure with different "levels" of people. Merging will involve many administrative and techinical problems. - This would not be a merge of the two groups as a whole. I don't want to create the K.E.C. :-D. I'd just like as Deryck C. says to have a joint-venture between the groups. I'm sorry, I'm rather totally confused by what is being suggested here... As for adding links between this page and the Esperanza page, that sounds obvious and good; go to it. As for linked summary, it says: "users who are already used to Wikipedia and understand how to edit and contribute in a positive way. But who don't have much interaction with the community as a whole" - So it would some kind of educational program... this sounds fine, but I don't really see how it connects to connecting this page with Esperanza, or not... Don't read any of the above as an objection, but more as a confusion as to how/what "decision" if any, we are making... Be bold! Give barnstars! Campaign Logo[edit]

Be courteous and kind in Wikipedia!

Hi everyone. Since this is a campaign, it needs a logo. Barnstar is great for award after-the-fact; however, we need a logo to promote kindness and which wikipedians can use to remind others to be kind and courteous. On the right is a logo used commonly in a little country called Singapore. Until we come up with our own logo, maybe we can borrow it for a while; I'm sure they don't mind (as long as we don't modify it). Good Day! --Vsion 5 July 2005 11:20 (UTC)

Great idea. A heart-shape is excellent, and it's universal. It shouldn't come with a barnstar though, because it's not an award, but a campaign logo, which will be especially useful to post on talk-pages with acrimonious discussion to remind everyone to be kind and polite, etc. Some wordings together with the drawing will be nice also. :-) -- Vsion 04:12, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think that our logo should in some way represent wikipedia and represent the care that surrounds the "wiki-environment." This could be portrayed by the wikipedia logo surrounded by a heart. -- EinsteinMC2

Peace Dove[edit]

User:Borisblue has come up with the idea of a peace offering, or truce, that you would offer to someone with whom you've had a dispute recently. I agree to the setting up of this peace dove. However I hope there's a rule restricting people to put this dove onto the talk page instead of the user page unless permission is granted by the receiving user. Where do I put good pages, that I can't easily tell which user(s) to thank for?[edit]

I happened upon a rather nice page, Measure word, and thinking of the campaign, wanted to thank the author(s), but it wasn't particularly clear who wrote what text. I think there's a page for good pages but I can't think of it right now. Any suggestions? JesseW 05:41, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)

When I run into this kind of situation, I usually use the history to figure out who did most of the major contributions, and thank them on their user talk page. If the article really is the result of dozens of good changes by dozens of users, then you could just say something nice of the talk page. Group aknowledgements[edit]

(Perhaps this should go to Wikipedia talk:Barnstar and award proposals so someone could move it there if it is more appropriate.)

Anyway, most of the current Barnstars/Awards are given to each user on a individual basis. However, no awards are given to a group or community as a whole. The groups that I am referring to are WikiProjects mainly, along with other organisations such as Esperanza, Welcoming Commitee and even the Kindness Campaign!

Eg. Person "X" has made a certain amount of edits and a certain amount of valuable work, enough to recieve a barnstar. In WikiProject ---, Persons "A","B","C" and "D" have done about half the amount of valuble work and edits than Person "X", not enough to deserve a barnstar or any other award. BUT as a team, they have done twice the amount of work. Remember, Wikipedia is a community and the community should be thanked. D a Gizza ^Chat 04:19, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiAmbassador Award[edit]

When someone joins, many times spend long time until feeling comfortable or welcome. The Welcoming Committee is a good think and the patrollers also, however there are Wikipedians who distinguish themselves for their kind and helpful approach to newcomers transmitting a spirit of really wanting to help others and the Wikipedia Project, getting involved.

I know that there are many awards to give to who is kind and so, but I wonder if exists or can be created a nice looking, laureate looking award called Goodwill WikiAmbassador or Kindness WikiAmbassador or Welcoming WikiAmbassador (in that order of preference). Those individuals are who make others want to join and want to establish a kindness interrelation environment, they are the key to many good things inside Wikipedia as well and should be recognized as such. The title Ambassador will reflect a lot about what they are and what they do and will motivate and recognise those who receive newcomers. I propose and introduce this but need someone for creating it because I lack the skills. Please let me know Daoken 10:54, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
