The annoying film releases section[edit]

Next discussion : WP:HD#ANNOYING film section.
  • I should preface this by pointing out that 46 of the ‘years of film’ pages, between 1930-2000 have the section i’m describing, and there’s still no clarity as to what it even represents. If it could be clarified, users could add this section to the remaining 24 years. Otherwise the list structure is annoyingly inconsistent with some years including it and others not. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

To take an example, in 1931 in film, there’s a section for 1931 in film#1931 film releases, but it’s not the full list of films (like 1931 in film#Notable films released in 1931), it’s just a generalised list of ‘film releases’ until clarified how that list is determined. It has a dissimilar film count to the other sections, so I can’t take reference from them. Any ideas? 81.155.230.3 (talk) 03:26, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's obviously a list of films that premiered that year. A random sample of other years shows they are listed alphabetically, whereas this one is in chronological order. So what's the problem? Just fix it. Mind you, I'm not a fan of including just any film, rather than just significant ones. Clarityfiend (talk) 08:34, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There’s already a list of films that premiered (1931 in film#Notable films released in 1931), this one isn’t the same, it’s not just a chronological re-ordering of it. It’s a REDUCED list, what’s REDUCING the list for all of those years? Please read my question again.81.155.230.3 (talk) 20:28, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, then the real question is who decided that these particular films, of the hundreds released that year, were worthy of being listed in either section. The Bachelor Father, for example, doesn't seem to be a particularly outstanding film. Clarityfiend (talk) 08:25, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps it would be more important to find out what the list even represents before asking whether it’s worthy of any inclusion. You probably answer that question in the process. 81.155.230.3 (talk) 08:35, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

References for Infobox[edit]

Hi, I was adding an info box for my article Giannis-Harden rivalry, but am somewhat confused where to put my citations. Would I put them in the table, underneath, or next to the nearest text? Thanks, Matthew. MasterMatt12 (talk) 03:35, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MasterMatt12: In articles I am familiar with, the are placed in the infobox itself as inline refs. See for example Falcon 9. -Arch dude (talk) 04:11, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright thanks, how will I be able to automatically convert them though if they are inside the infobox? MasterMatt12 (talk) 04:12, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MasterMatt12: I'm very old-fashioned and I just use the source editor. I suspect you are using tools I don't use, so I don't even know what "automatically convert them" means. -Arch dude (talk) 04:47, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, so pretty much in visual when you press the cite button, there are three options: Automatic, Manual, and Re-use. The automatic one makes a citation for you with just a URL, while manual you obviously do it "Manual" and Re-use you just put the same citation from earlier in the article and "Re-use" it. Automatic is a lot easier, but if it is not possible I guess I could do it in source mode as well. MasterMatt12 (talk) 04:51, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Visual editing not visual
MasterMatt12 (talk) 04:51, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MasterMatt12: maybe let the visual editor build the automatic ref in the text somewhere, and then move it into the infobox using the source editor. Clearly, the "reuse" is quicker to just use the source editor. Very often, the refs in the infobox are also used in the main text anyway, and in this case just leave the actual ref in the text and add the reuse syntax in the infobox. -Arch dude (talk) 16:46, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks. MasterMatt12 (talk) 17:35, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Financial support[edit]

I’ve contributed to Wikipedia through my email but keep getting request on my phone. Please do not request contributions through my phone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:7000:D03F:E405:C9E2:BC2:9CB:FA8 (talk) 09:31, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is nothing to do with Wikipedia so unfortunately we cannot help you. Please contact Wikimedia at [email protected] More information is available here. Shantavira|feed me 09:51, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome and thank you for your question about donations! To hide the fundraising banners, you can create an account and uncheck Preferences → Banners → uncheck Fundraising. The Wikimedia Foundation does not track the identity of IP addresses, so it doesn't know your age, income level or whether you donated in the past.
None of the Wikipedia volunteer editors here who add and improve content in articles receive any financial benefit. We all simply contribute our time because we care about building a great encyclopedia for you and innumerable others around the world to use.
If you cannot afford it, no one wants you to donate. Wikipedia is not at risk of shutting down, and the Wikimedia Foundation, which hosts the Wikipedia platform and is asking for these donations, is richer than ever.
We are led to believe that users who allow cookies are less likely to see these banners on repeat visits (further information is available here), and you are welcome to communicate directly with the donor-relations team by emailing [email protected]. Cite error[edit]

Why does this article display a cite error warning? It didn't have one when it was sat in my userspace. Thanks --Ykraps (talk) 09:38, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see a cite error warning there. Maybe try a "purge"? Maproom (talk) 10:09, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it. ■ ∃ Madeline ⇔ ∃ Part of me ; 10:15, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a new article[edit]

i want to create a new article but its showing me source editor and not visual editor and i have changed the preference, its also not showing the drop down option to change it at the right side of writing new article page QDJ22 (talk) 14:38, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

QDJ22, on the technical side, you can go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing to change your editor from source to visual.
On the content side, you cannot yet create a new article as you lack the edits. This restriction is used to prevent misguided new users from creating articles that do not comply with the markedly insane amount of policies and guidelines. Please start by contributing edits to existing articles. Creating a new article is much easier once you understand how to do it.
If you really want to create a new article now you must start by creating a draft and submitting it through the Articles for creation process. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:43, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at Marius Andrei Feder, I don't think he is notable enough to merit a Wikipedia article, but my search was not in-depth. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:45, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
hello, thanks for your reply and do you mean i should choose always give me visual editor if possible in the preference
and about Marius Andrei Feder, why did you said you don't think he is not table enough because i cam across his everybodywiki page/articles online and i can see some of article and news about him too QDJ22 (talk) 14:52, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
QDJ22, like I said, my search was not in depth. If there are reliable news sources or books, then he may merit an article. Everybodywiki is user-generated and not reliable, as is Baidu Baike and IMDb. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 15:35, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
okay, thanks but am still unable to use visual editor QDJ22 (talk) 12:26, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Submitting a completed article[edit]

I completed an article as a sample page (in User:Nathanida/Sample page) titled "Nondestructive Evaluation 4.0. I am now ready to submit it but I see no way I can do that. Perhaps I am on the wrong page? If so, what do I do?

I am sure it is something obvious I am overlooking.

Thank you for the help.

Nathanida (talk) 15:02, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To submit a draft for review, add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft. - David Biddulph (talk) 15:05, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Nathanida: I see that Draft:Nondestructive Evaluation 4.0 (to which User:Nathanida/Sample page was moved) currently cites Wikipedia. This is not permitted. If the referenced Wikipedia articles have sources, check wether you can use those sources instead. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 15:58, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Victor for the comment.
I apologize for not seeing that obvious requirement. I will correct all that.

@LikamboisaacK you appear to be currently logged in as LikamboisaacK. Password resets are possible using Special:PasswordReset, if the target account has specified a confirmed email address. Some browsers also have a save password feature which might have the password saved. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 16:04, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@LikamboisaacK: Do not log off yet. First, make sure you have a confirmed Email address for your account that is still valid and useable. If not, add it now. Then, follow the password reset instructions. -Arch dude (talk) 16:38, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

donation[edit]

How do I get the annoying begging for donations notices that are all over the website to stop. I have been a donor, I have donated this year and that will be the last time unless you can figure out how to stop annoying the people that support you. Clean up your act. 2600:6C5E:547F:7935:F058:3025:9B1C:1C69 (talk) 17:48, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Volunteer Wikipedia editors have nothing to do with the fundraising process which is handled by professionals at the Wikimedia Foundation instead. So, we have no "act" to "clean up". If you register an account, you can go to your "Preferences" and opt out of fundraising banners. I have not seen one while logged in for many years. Infobox bug[edit]

Hello. I was reading the article The Proof of Your Love, and the short description says that it was released in 0000, as well as the infobox says that that it was released in 00000000 (under the singles chronology). Cherrell410 (talk) 21:25, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Cherrell410, probably not a bug, That is a very complex infobox which automatically generates some parts from information stored elsewhere. It is trying to do it for information that is not available. Instead, the information should have been put in the infobox itself, the way it is for the related Busted Heart (Hold On to Me) article. Vandalism help request from 153.104.35.166[edit]

I have noticed some vandalism at List of multilingual presidents of the United States. Namely, Line 98 with the unnecessary phrase 'But he can barely speak English at this point, so what difference does it make?'. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, 153.104.35.166 (talk) 22:49, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
