April 9[edit]

Tables with missing header rows on California county pages[edit]

Every page for a county in California that I've checked contains collapsible tables that are missing their second header row when expanded, rendering the data unlabeled and unsortable. For example, there's four bad tables on the page for Santa Clara County, in the Demographics, Politics and Crime sections. They all seem to have one of the following headers:

  • Places by population and race
  • Places by population and income
  • Cities by population and voter registration
  • Cities by population and crime rates

The problem seems to be due to the tables using "collapsible" instead of "mw-collapsible", though I'm not sure they should be collapsed at all per MOS:COLLAPSE.

If it was just one page I'd fix it myself, but with California having 58 counties it seems like a case for a bulk edit, so I'd like to kick this one up to a more experienced editor. — Spiders Everywhere (talk) 02:12, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Need an editor to upload photos[edit]

I am a conflict of interest for Beta Technologies. Is there an editor who can help upload photos to our page that I've uploaded to my Wikimedia commons account? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbeyblankensop (talkcontribs) 11:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Abbeyblankensop:I like the photos, although I think that the one for the charging station probably need to be cropped. To proceed transparently in view of your WP:COI and WP:PAID, please use the Talk Page of the article Beta Technologies to make the edit request(s), saying where in the article you think the pictures should go (and being sure to use four tildes ~~~~ to "sign" the request). Then I'll check and make the edits. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:44, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Michael D. Turnbull: Am I also requesting in the talk page, the cropping of the photo? Or should I reupload a cropped version too wiki media commons? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbeyblankensop (talkcontribs) 16:21, 9 April 2021 (UTC) Abbeyblankensop (talk) 16:22, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Abbeyblankensop: I can do the cropping, if you wish, and reload the modified image on Commons (the CC BY SA 4.0 license allows for modifications). I suggest we take this further on your Talk Page and at the Talk page of the article, as I've a few other comments to make. Note that your "ping" of me didn't work as you didn't sign the post with the four tildes! That's one reason for using them, which can be a steep learning curve for beginners. English check[edit]

Hi guys, I speak English but I'm not native. I've added some details to the Rinascita Basket Rimini page, could you please check that I didn't write errors? I mean not about the content, but about the English language :) Thanks. --Giallone (talk) 11:48, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Just be bold at edit! If you made mistakes, someone will correct it for you. As long as your edit is made in good faith, it is a great contribution to Wikipedia! SunDawn (talk) 14:31, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to create a new page ?[edit]

How to create a new page with new topic also how to change a title of any posted topic — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr good man beast and beastest (talkcontribs) 12:53, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mr good man beast and beastest: check out WP:Your first article. However, it is very challenging to create articles, so are there any topics you like that you want to work on first? versacespaceleave a message! 12:56, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to change the title of the article Pls help

@Mr good man beast and beastest: I merged the section you just created with the one you made before. Please sign your comments with four tildes. (these things -> ~) You can change the title of an article by pressing "more", on top of the page, which will then give you the option to "move" a page to the title you want. If you need assistance I can do it for you (provided there's a satisfactory reason for the move). versacespaceleave a message! 13:05, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mr good man beast and beastest: please do not remove sections. I gave an answer to your question. versacespaceleave a message! 13:11, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IA Bot Archive Tool[edit]

This - https://iabot.toolforge.org/index.php?page=runbotqueue - used to be the link to IABot that I've used for years to archive links. For the past week or so there is an error message 503 Service Unavailable. Any idea what's going on? Thanks. Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:33, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

mathbb{1}[edit]

How can I use 𝟙 in a math equation? It seems from various sources that I need to use the bbm package. Is it possible to use LaTeX in Wikipedia articles that use packages? --Yoderj (talk) 13:37, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have used some funny business in the Heaviside step function article:

<big>𝟙</big><math>\,\!_{x > 0}</math>

but there must be a better way --Yoderj (talk) 13:45, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yoderj. You should be able to get some guidance at WP:LATEX. Alternatively, seek out the Talk Pages for the maths projects and an expert in this stuff will likely help. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:16, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template to inform how soon talk page discussions are archived[edit]

Is there a template that informs people how soon a talk page discussion is archived after the last comment made? Please {{ping}} me when you respond. --Jax 0677 (talk) 14:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jax 0677: {{Archives}} has an age parameter. See Template:Archives#Examples. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:27, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reply - @PrimeHunter:, I believe that there is also a talk page banner that goes below the Wikiproject Banners that does the same thing. --Jax 0677 (talk) 14:34, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a question kinda paranoid[edit]

Hi, i'm new to Wikipedia still and i was told by someone a while ago that, all anonymous user's ip address's are displayed for all to see if they make edits or pages. What about regular user's? Will my IP address be displayed after i post this or make an edit or a page, even with a registered account here? Pepper R Sun (talk) 15:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)Pepper R Sun, sorry forgot to sign it[reply]

Hey, @Kleinpecan, whats a "CheckUser" is it an acutal authorised person? Thanks for asnwering my question tho

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Pepper R Sun (talkcontribs) 14:57, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No (although CheckUsers still can see it). Kleinpecan (talk) 15:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Pepper R Sun:. See WP:CHECK. Almost the only reason these trusted individuals would have access to your IP as a logged-on user is if there is reason to suspect you are using multiple accounts for nefarious purposes (see WP:MULTIPLE). That's unlikely to happen and having an account is much more anonymous than not having one. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:10, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you accidentally edit without being logged in then you can request the IP address is hidden. See Wikipedia:Requests for oversight. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:13, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category diffusion size[edit]

I was going through a category recently. It was a "container category", and it contained well over 200 subcategories. The category is Culture by city in the United States. I was wondering if the category is large enough so that it could be further sorted into something along the lines of "Culture by city by state in the United States".

There are enough entries/subcategories in said category to make decently-sized diffusing subcategories. For instance, a "Culture by city in California" category would have 33 entries.

Painting17 (talk) 15:28, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Painting17 I would say this is probably not a good idea, but you could suggest this at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion. The same argument would apply to other members of Category:Categories by city in the United States. TSventon (talk) 16:57, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TSventon Good point. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm fine with the outcome either way. Painting17 (talk) 17:03, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Painting17: We already have Category:California culture by location. I only found one other Category:Hawaii culture by location, but many state culture categories like Category:Florida culture start with a group of culture by city which could easily have been in a subcategory. A search finds many topics with "Category:X in California by city". PrimeHunter (talk) 18:56, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback rights assignment[edit]

Which criterias are used to assign this privilege? Dr Salvus 16:31, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Rollback#Requesting rollback rights. "While there is no fixed requirement, a request is unlikely to be successful without a contribution history that demonstrates an ability to distinguish well-intentioned edits with minor issues from unconstructive vandalism. Rollback is not for very new users: it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. In addition, editors with a recent history of edit warring will often not be granted rollback given concerns of abuse." TSventon (talk) 16:35, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TSventon, I have identified vandalism but sometimes I have been wrong. Can it be a problem if I want to have this privilege? Dr Salvus 17:30, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dr Salvus, I don't know any more than the guidance above, but it suggests that you should work on your history of successfully identifying vandalism before requesting rollback rights. TSventon (talk) 17:38, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Dr Salvus, I see that you have made at least one edit using WP:Twinkle. Twinkle has a 'rollback' button which accomplishes the same thing as a rollback user right, as well as a lot of other great anti-vandalism tools. If you do enough productive work in anti-vandalism with Twinkle, it's likely that an Admin will notice your work and end up offering you rollback rights of their own volition. Let me know if you have questions. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 17:45, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NBA Playoff berth Clinched[edit]

What No NBA Playoffs Berths are clinched 70.179.216.206 (talk) 16:44, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is about an article, you can start a discussion on that article's talk page. General questions about basketball playoffs can go to WP:RDE RudolfRed (talk) 16:56, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
70.179.216.206, we can't be too hasty to declare a team playoff-bound as no team is guaranteed to make the playoffs yet. The Jazz hold the 1 seed in the west with a 13.5 game lead over the 9 seed Spurs but, with 20 games yet to be played, they could have a historic collapse and miss the playoffs altogether. Prince Philip Wiki Page[edit]
