policy on trivia/gossip?[edit]

Hi, I removed a piece from the Jacinda Ardern article about her cat because it just seemed so trivial and inconsequential to me, but was reverted and told to obtain consensus. Seems to me just because something is covered in a RS doesn't mean it should be on wikipedia. Including stuff about a national leader's cat is kind of embarrassing. Does WP:INDISCRIMINATE apply in cases like this? MaxBrowne2 (talk) 01:28, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, if WP:Reliable sources talk about it at some length, then it seems that it can go into an article. Most national leaders' pets become newsworthy at one time or another. See FDR's Fala (dog), for example. It was a good try on your part; keep it up. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 02:29, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"Good try?" Don't patronise me, I'm not some newbie. WP:NOTNEWS, WP:TOOMUCH and WP:UNDUE can all be argued here. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 02:56, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help editing a table[edit]

How can this table in the section List of political parties in the Republic of Ireland#Political parties with representation at a local, national or European level be edited? I have tried using the edit section both for the whole page and for this sepcific section and I'm not able to edit it with either. Helper201 (talk) 03:01, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

When you try to edit the section it shows that it's a transclusion of {{Details of political parties in the Republic of Ireland}}. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:06, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
David Biddulph, thank you. Helper201 (talk) 03:09, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

no access to visual editor[edit]

How to regain access to visual editor? It seems I lost it. Thanks!Pinterma1000szer (talk) 05:55, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pinterma1000szer: Check to make sure that it is (still) enabled. Click on 'preferences' at the top of any page. Then 'editing' from the options; scroll down past 'Editor' to 'Editing mode'. From the dropdown ensure that 'Show me both editor tabs' is selected. Eagleash (talk) 11:41, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Eagleash: Thank You ! It works :) I had the remember-last-editorm which might be the default,Pinterma1000szer (talk) 19:24, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you still see a pencil ✎ in the top right corner of the editor window you can also use that to switch. – Thjarkur (talk) 17:20, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@EThjarkur:Thank You ! The pencil works too :) how could I not figure this out? Pinterma1000szer (talk) 19:24, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Apprentice biography needs updating — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.127.163.126 (talk) 10:03, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The place to propose changes would be Talk:List of The Apprentice candidates (British series 5), & you'll need to support your proposals with references to published reliable sources. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:06, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not Able To Add Images In My Article.[edit]

Hi there, I created my account yesterday and I also verified the email id yesterday. I have pasted the article which I wrote for a company which is very popular on Social Media like YouTube and Facebook these days. I contacted the owner of the company and got all the information from the owner of the business as I know this guy personally as I created the logo of this company a few years ago. I have written my article and uploaded it to Wikipedia/sandbox and this is my first article submission in Wikipedia. I have a few questions to ask. if you can please help me with understanding how Wikipedia works.

1. Currently, I am writing in Sandbox for an unknown reason. Does sandbox mean the text I have written will not be published until you guys verify my content or do it means something else? how can I move from sandbox to the actual Wikipedia site?

2. I am not able to upload images. I need to add images to support my article. but I am getting this error --> An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, and it has been disallowed. If this edit is constructive, please report this error.

I created this logo few years ago for the owner of the company and yesterday, I went to photoshop and changed the size from 2400x2400pixel to 480x480pixel so that the image can open quickly in Wikipedia. But I am not able to add that image from my end and getting the error I mentioned above. Can you please help me by telling if I should be uploading the original (very big/large size) logo file? or if there is any other issue.

3. I am a new user of Wikipedia. I am not sure if my account is properly verified by you guys or not. I need to publish my article which is currently in the sandbox. what should be done? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daljit Singh Khalsa (talkcontribs) 13:32, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Daljit Singh Khalsa: The sandbox is where you can make test edits, if you want to have an article submitted, you should go through WP:AFC, however your article would very likely not be accepted. You have what is called a Conflict of interest. Please read through WP:COI and declare your Conflict on interest on the talk page. In addition your page reads like an Advertisement As for the uploading of images, I don’t see anything in the edit filter log showing that an upload was blocked.LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 13:55, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
LakesideMiners: The abuse filter message was from Commons, where there's a restriction on cross-wiki uploads of small images marked as "own work" on the grounds that they're usually copyvios[1]. --bjh21 (talk) 18:40, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Bjh21, AH, thank you. I will take your word for it as for some weird reason commons is blocked at my school. LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 18:43, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Daljit Singh Khalsa, when LakesideMiners says "very likely not be accepted", they are being polite. Your draft is promotional and entirely unreferenced. It reads more like an advertisement than an encyclopedia article. It would certainly not be accepted. If your purpose is to promote the company, then use Facebook, or some other site where promotion is acceptable. Maproom (talk) 14:02, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maproom, Thank you, I was wondering how blunt I should be, would it have been better to say “certainly not be accepted”? LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 14:08, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No adverb needed, I'd say. —Tamfang (talk) 00:40, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to create an account from a country where Wikipedia is blocked?[edit]

Should one use https://utrs.wmflabs.org/?Chidgk1 (talk) 13:39, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that that request form is for editors who have been blocked by Wikipedia for misbehaviour here, to request readmission. It cannot provide a way of bypassing a block by a totalitarian government. Maproom (talk) 16:44, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
When countries block access to Wikipedia, people usually resort to using open proxies and VPNs. However, these are usually blocked on sight because they're so commonly used for disruption. If you don't already have an account on English Wikipedia, one can requested at WP:ACC. If you already have an account, but you can't edit because the IP address is blocked, you should send an email to the functionary mailing list and request IP block exemption. Deleted model[edit]

Dear Wikipedia, while I can agree with your decision to remove citations to some my (published) papers I cannot understand (nor agree) why at any time I tried to include in a list of (specifically) "Hybrid models of forest production" the our Hybrid model of forest production (which is largely cited and published elsewhere) and without directly citing our own work, Wikipedia delete even also the link to the model web-page (as also other model do). What's the matter with our model? Thanks in advance Best Regards Alessio Collalti — Preceding unsigned comment added by ACollalti (talkcontribs) 14:10, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you write "Dear Wikipedia," you are writing to yourself, because you are part of Wikipedia, as are we all. Welcome. The best place to ask your question (or make your case) in on the WP:Talk page of the article, at Talk:Hybrid models of forest production. Just begin a conversation there; if needed, you can ask for more people to chime in, using a WP:Request for comment. Best wishes. (I will keep my eye on that page, to see how everything is coming along.) BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 17:12, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

contents relating to a slow dispute[edit]

When there's a tv show airing and a streaming service is adding the episodes, like Amazon Video. So I'm finding on some pages/ articles that there's a streaming service that can be looked up on youtube. Like here. But the name keeps popping up as a random youtube channel. And I'm not sure what to do next? Tainted-wingsz (talk) 14:25, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I may have forgotten about WP:BRD. And just wait. Tainted-wingsz (talk) 20:00, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You might also have forgotten that other readers don't have the content of your thoughts to help add context to what you actually type: I for one find your original query above almost entirely incomprehensible.
Can I suggest that you draft your queries off-Wikipedia, go do something else for an hour, and then come back and re-read them to make sure they'll make sense to someone else, before you post them? {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.121.161.82 (talk) 15:44, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, my concern was, there was some edits where someone was adding sentences. Where you can watch tv shows on youtube. But I didn't know anything about WP:PROMOTION at the time. So occasionally I attend to make bad word choices. When I get somehow clueless easily. Tainted-wingsz (talk) 16:31, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How do you add a reference[edit]

I’m not sure how to do it, I tried to reference it using <ref name=“name”</ref> but it didn’t seem to work, I need help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The person who should not be named (talkcontribs) 15:27, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Huckle wiki[edit]

The authors that write this are uneducated. Children are subject to "child abuse" - they are "victims". A victim and abuse are the key words to be used.

The words "child pornography" suggest otherwise - this is not something the victims chose; this is not something they enjoyed.

You disgrace yourselves by using such terminology. You should not be authorised to write on this global form of communication about this subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.35.166.132 (talk) 18:58, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Are you the same editor who vandalised the Kate Hoey article, or was that someone else from your IP address? I can't see anything wrong with the article Richard Huckle. The article uses the word "victims" a number of times, and mentions "abuse". If you have some suggestions for improving the article, please suggest them on the talk page of the article. Dbfirs 19:10, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The term "child pornography" does not in any way suggest that the victims chose it. See e.g. Child pornography, Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, or https://www.justice.gov/criminal-ceos/child-pornography. It is the common name for this crime. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:08, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Huckle wiki update post to the person who posted.[edit]

For the person who claims the word "child pornography" is not used on this article: read again! FYI - I've copied and pasted below for reference. It appears you require someone to cite the article to see your error.

"Remand and trial

After leaving his parents' house Huckle was re-arrested and charged with 91 counts including creation and possession of child pornography..."

As for my IP address, I will be informing my local police of my actions to ensure my safety, as you accuse me to be a person to have posted on another event.

There should be a # for use against the word "child pornography". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.35.166.132 (talk) 19:34, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss on the talk page for the article. If you don't want your IP address visible, then you should create an account: WP:ACCOUNT RudolfRed (talk) 19:37, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) :Yes, of course the term is used in the article because that is what he was charged with. I read that paragraph before and considered it accurate. Your IP address is probably static, but it is possible that it was previously assigned to someone else if you have recently changed your internet provider. The police will not be interested, and I made no accusations — I just asked a question. Your safety is a priority, so you might like to WP:Create an account so that your IP address is not revealed when you edit here. Dbfirs 19:46, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

a webpage for Vladimir Nedqlkov Kolev[edit]

Could we set up a page?

Regards, Valio — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heroxios (talkcontribs) 19:56, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid not, Valio. "Setting up a page" is not what we do here - this is not social media. What we do here is to write neutral, well-sourced articles about notable subjects. If several people, completely unconnected with Kolev, have already chosen to write about him, and been published in reliable sources, then somebody can write a Wikipedia article about him. It will not be his article, it will not necessarily say what he wants it to say, and very little of the content should come from what he has said or published: rather from those independent sources.
If you wish to attempt the (rather difficult) task of creating a new article, please start by reading Your first article. If you are in any way associated with Kolev, please also read WP:COI. --ColinFine (talk) 21:15, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Restore Wikipedia page[edit]

Hi, I’m working on research for a page and i thought I was typing in my sandbox but I have actually been editing the page itself. Is there any possible way to revert the page back to the format/condition it was in 3 days ago? (On Friday, October 11th). I still plan to publish all of these changes once I have finished my research in the next few weeks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1000:B010:485:6DB4:1F86:7768:204C (talk) 20:44, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You can go to the page history and click "undo" next to the edit you want to get rid of. Not clear what you are trying to add to the page, but please remember you can't add original research to an article. See WP:OR. RudolfRed (talk) 20:49, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Cite errors/Cite error references missing key[edit]

Need help adding reference on Geophysical planet definition page. I am not good at coding. Reference is to show thathe Pluto is larger than Eris, and that Mike Brown's chart on his reference contains incorrect diameter of Pluto to make Eris look bigger. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sowff (talkcontribs) 20:47, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You had deleted the definition of a reference which is used in the article, and you added a reference definition but didn't use it in the article text, hence the error messages. Does this edit do what you intended? --David Biddulph (talk) 20:56, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You can go ahead and disregard it. If you are on a home network, your IP address assignment is likely dynamic. This means that your IP address will change every so often (days or weeks), coming out of a pool of shared IP addresses that are shared between many people. It's not an uncommon occurrence for an IP address to receive a warning for making a bad edit, and then for that IP address to be assigned to a different person who then sees the warning intended for someone else. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:40, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
