Infobox officeholder help[edit]

If anyone is knowledgeable with using {{Infobox officeholder}}, I am having some trouble in Jedediah Sanger. The documentation shows how to use it for a particular office. But in this case, the subject was in multiple offices. His terms as New York State legislator are under a US House of Representative header instead of the State Legislature. MB 02:42, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be something to do with the |district3= and |district4= parameters defaulting to U.S. Congressional districts. If you remove those parameters the "U.S. House of Representatives" text goes away, but you also lose the name of the district. I expect it is possible to keep the district names, but I don't know how. You may be most likely to get an answer at Template talk:Infobox officeholder. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 14:22, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the Title of the Wikipedia Page[edit]

This is in regard to the change in title of the Wikipedia Page for Actor Raqesh Bapat. The page currently has the title 'Raqesh Vashisth' which we would like to change to 'Raqesh Bapat'.We kindly request you to guide through the process. Please check the page link attached below.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raqesh_Vashisth  — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raqesh Bapat (talkcontribs) 08:38, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The references, on average, seem to disagree with your preferences, but perhaps there is some good reason for the change? See WP:COMMONNAME. Why do you refer to yourself as "we"? An account may be used only by one person. The change of title will need to be done by a "move" to the new title. See Wikipedia:Moving a page for details. Dbfirs 09:30, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Other editors do not think this should be changed, so leave things as they are until you have a clear WP:Reliable source for the name change. Dbfirs 11:51, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

President's pronoun[edit]

Why is the pronoun 'he' used when referring to the President of the U.S.? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loriap29 (talkcontribs) 12:37, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of what? We don't refer to people by "his excellency" or other honorifics. – Thjarkur (talk) 12:41, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Loriap29: Perhaps you're referring to an instance where the role of president, or an unspecified person in that role, is referred to as "he" rather than "he or she" or similar? Per Wikipedia's manual of style we should use gender-neutral language wherever possible, but you'd have to let us know which article you're referring to in order for it to be fixed (or alternatively, since anyone can edit most Wikipedia articles, you can fix it yourself). – Arms & Hearts (talk) 13:30, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I may be wrong now, but I think the US constitution does that. "He Shall, from Time to Time...". That is of course no reason WP should necessarily do the same. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:37, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

So far all the US Presidents have been men so in all historical articles "he" must be correct. In articles about the Presidency itself- eg the powers of the President, then "he or she" or "the President" are probably better, but this may get wearing with repetition.Spinney Hill (talk) 14:59, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's academic, really, until/unless Loriap29 lets us know if there's a specific instance that's concerning them. There don't seem to be any such uses in the President of the United States article. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 15:10, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We want to enter our uncle details[edit]

If you are thinking of writing an article, read the advice at WP:Your first article. As the subject is a family member, you also need to read about conflict of interest. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:27, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Creating an article[edit]

I am thinking about creating an article about Sam Tinnesz. I am aware of this page: H:YFA, but can you check to see of they meet the subject specific notability criteria at WP:SINGER? In other words, I'm asking if this is an OK subject to create an article about. Please ping me in your response. Interstellarity (talk) 19:21, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Interstellarity, If you can find 3 pretty good sources that discuss him in detail, you should be good, as that would allow you to probably pass the WP:GNG, or SINGER #1. In terms of the more specific ones, I'm gonna ask you to do some footwork here. What has he done? How many albums? How did they sell? Who has reviewed his music? Has he been written about? Any awards? If you can give me the 3 best sources you find, I'll give you a better verdict. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:45, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
CaptainEek, I did a Google search here and I think I get mostly unreliable sources such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Fandom. I found this source that talks a little bit about him. Any thoughts on whether I should use this source? Interstellarity (talk) 22:47, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Interstellarity, Genius is not a reliable source, merely an aggregator/fan site. What is really needed is things like news articles, coverage in magazines, articles, etc. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 22:51, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
CaptainEek, I couldn't find any of that. Based on my understanding, it seems like this isn't the best choice to make an article on. Do you agree? Interstellarity (talk) 23:07, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Interstellarity, Yeah, probably not the best topic right now. But, keep an eye out. Some folks who aren't currently notable may become notable. People become famous all the time! Their next album could be a big break, and then it might be the right time to make them an article. Don't be disheartened, and why not work to instead expand an existing musician stub. Or heck, a stub of any kind. There are literally millions of stubs on articles that are notable, but often with only a sentence to their name. These articles could use a discerning editor like yourself to fix 'em up. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:00, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
CaptainEek, Thanks for your help. Interstellarity (talk) 00:08, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
