Wikiproject Article Lists[edit]

How can I find the full list of articles that are associated with a particular WikiProject? AnUnnamedUser (talk) 00:57, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @AnUnnamedUser: It depends on the project. I believe almost all of them have a list, but the location of it varies. Orvilletalk 05:17, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@AnUnnamedUser: If you can't find a list you can use the What links here link on the WikiProject template to find all the talk pages that transclude the WikiProject template. Danski454 (talk) 12:43, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war[edit]

extended discussion

Helped I am trying to edit the article, "Corporation". Unfortunately, an admin keeps reverting with no explanation and refuses to discuss on the talk page. What should I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.27.150.168 (talk) 01:59, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you are having a disagreement with anyone, the best thing to do is try to get others to agree with you, to build consensus. Please see Wikipedia:Requests for comment to launch a public request for comment. I do see a somewhat detailed discussion on the talk page already, so please don't mischaracterize the situation - it will hurt your credibility and in turn your argument. And a friendly tip - you don't need to register a user name to edit here, but not having one subconsciously weakens your case in the eyes of other experienced editors. I've never seen an IP editor get into an edit conflict with a seasoned administrator and come out ahead. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 02:34, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That is truly unfortunate.

I looked through your edits, and I'm confident there are sources that support what you're trying to add, but you haven't cited them. Wikipedia is not about what we know to be true, but what reliable sources say is true. Without the citations, it appears as if you're trying to impose your opinion on the article (even if you're right), rather than present facts to improve the article. Orvilletalk 03:02, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have cites. What are you talking about?!!

So I have cites for each change I want to make. The owner of the page still will not let me make the edit. What should I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.27.150.168 (talk) 17:33, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The help desk is here to answer questions on how to use or edit Wikipedia. We have answered your question by referring you to the Wikipedia:Requests for comment page. The Help Desk folks cannot assist you further, unless you have additional questions on the dispute resolution process as opposed to questions related to the details of this specific dispute. For example, we can help you with formatting your citations if that is a problem, but this is the wrong venue for debating the quality of references or the relevance of the references, either yours or those of the other parties: do that on the talk page. To answer your most recent question: what you should do: since these changes are apparently contentious, make specific suggestions for change, each in a new section on the talk page, with references, and add {{request edit}}. If the request is declined, move on to requests for comment. -Arch dude (talk) 17:57, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is no one that responds on the talk page except for the owner of the page.

You say, " but this is the wrong venue for debating the quality of references or the relevance of the references," Where is the right venue for this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.27.150.168 (talk) 18:00, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As we mentioned twice before, please read Wikipedia:Requests for comment. -Arch dude (talk) 19:06, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Guayaquil and Quito are both listed 2nd most populated city in Ecuador[edit]

Guayaquil and Quito are both listed 2nd most populated city in Ecuador — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.82.58.61 (talk) 13:11, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Historically it's clear that Quito has had the smaller population of the two. However, recently it appears that it has caught up and just surpassed Guayaquil, at least according to this story that appeared in El Telégrafo in January this year. It's hard to know if this is generally accepted, although they do quote the "Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos" for their figures. Mikenorton (talk) 15:29, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do caladriuses count as medieval European legendary creatures?[edit]

Helped

For those unaware, here's the link to the article on the caladrius. It's listed, at least primarily, as a creature of Roman mythology, but it seems to have carried over into Medieval European folklore. Could anyone please tell me if this is a correct categorization?--Thylacine24 (talk) 18:53, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Thylacine24: The article does mention the medieval usage of the caladrius. Here's a source, albeit a blog, but I doubt anyone would fault you for using it. [[1]] Since anyone can edit, you're welcome to add the Medieval European folklore category to the article. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:48, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.--Thylacine24 (talk) 19:49, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

async[edit]

Helped

does anyone know how to get in touch with async address phone number — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:150:4300:4987:2D23:4A6F:50E2:BA43 (talk) 19:13, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@2601:150:4300:4987:2D23:4A6F:50E2:BA43: This is a forum for asking questions about using Wikipedia. Perhaps your question, with more specificity, could be posted at Wikipedia:Reference desk. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:30, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Slight adjustment to article title[edit]

Helpednot yet?

The title of the article on Taikyoku shogi, should, I feel, be altered to "Taikyoku shogi", since other article titles with Japanese words tend to keep the macron (i.e., Jōmon period).--Thylacine24 (talk) 19:22, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Thylacine24: I'm unclear about what you are asking. Your requested version of the title and the current version seem to be identical. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:25, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I meant to write "Taikyoky shogi", with the macron.--Thylacine24 (talk) 19:31, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Thylacine24: Like this "Taikyoku shōgi"? OkayKenG (talk) 19:37, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you. I could have sworn I used it the second time.--Thylacine24 (talk) 19:38, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Thylacine24: Since the macron is a special character, you have to request the move at Wikipedia:Requested moves. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:44, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.--Thylacine24 (talk) 19:46, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtempleton: Sorry I did it, how do I undo it? OkayKenG (talk) 19:47, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, someone just went and did it. Thanks!--Thylacine24 (talk) 19:48, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know we needed to request the move. hehe. 19:49, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Looks OK now - problem solved. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:51, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Thylacine24, Timtempleton, and OkayKenG: I'm not sure this was such a slight adjustment given MOS:JAPAN#Determining common usage and MOS:JAPAN#English words of Japanese origin (shogi is specifically given as one of the examples where a macron is not needed). Then, there was also Talk:Shogi#Shōgi. Maybe Taikyoku shōgi is different, but I don't think it's a simple change. It might be better to seek some input at WT:JAPAN or at least on the article's talk page first before making the change since it actually introduces some inconsistency with the way the word "shogi" is being used not only throughout the rest of the article but in other Wikipedia articles as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:09, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to open up a can of worms. If you want to change it back, then I have no objection.--Thylacine24 (talk) 21:39, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Thylacine24: It fine, its my fault for moving the page. Marchjuly, should I move the pages back to the version without the macron? OkayKenG (talk) 22:03, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend bringing it up at WT:JAPAN. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:35, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, will do. OkayKenji (talk page) :) 22:55, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page with overly large picture[edit]

Helped

The page for Zār has an 811x811 picture in the opening section. Could anyone please tell me if it's all right to reduce it to, say, 400X400? I'd bring it up on the talk page, but the users there tend to take a while to respond.--Thylacine24 (talk) 20:37, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have reduced it to 'thumb' which is how a lot of images display. That does make it a little smaller than usual though so feel free to increase slightly if desired. Eagleash (talk) 20:48, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Think I should bring this up on the talk page?--Thylacine24 (talk) 21:40, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Probably not necessary. If you are happy with the current size, leave it as it is; If not, enlarge it slightly. If an oversized version gets restored reduce it again to a more acceptable level. Then discuss if necessary. See WP:IMAGE and WP:IMGDD for more. Eagleash (talk) 21:48, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request to delete a Redirect[edit]

Helped
I would like to create a page describing the Cathedral Formation (a stratigraphic unit). This would require an Admin to delete the Redirect that sends "Cathedral Formation" to Cathedral escarpment. The latter should actually be a subtopic on the former page, and I will attempt to merge them after "Cathedral Formation" is created. Georgialh (talk) 22:01, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Georgialh: I've removed the redirect, placed the article in draft, and added an under construction template. It's now here Draft:Cathedral Formation. Happy editing! Orvilletalk 23:44, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Orville! Georgialh (talk) 16:40, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Translate my Wikipedia website from English to Spanish! (I would like to have both languages)[edit]

Hi there,

I would like to create a wikipedia page in Spanish. The question is that the wikipedia page of the person already exists, is this one : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marialejandra_Marrero and it is a page that I wrote originally in English but now I would like to create a type of "extension" of that page and do it in Spanish or if neccesary create a whole new wikipedia page in Spanish. I already tried to translate the page in the tools menu and try to create a new name for the Spanish page (Different than the English name "because of the copyright") but the "the librarians" from wikipedia deleted it. So, how can I CREATE a page in Spanish of an existing page in English?

thank you!Carlos.Gallardor (talk) 23:58, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We do not have other language articles on the English Wikipedia. You will want to go to the Spanish language Wikipedia and try to start an article there: [2]. Although I notice an article there seems to have deleted multiple times. Remember other-language Wikipedias have their own rules and culture. Probably best to work with some experienced user on that site. Rmhermen (talk) 00:16, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Carlos.Gallardor: This article may help. It discusses the process of translating from English Wikipedia to other languages. Orvilletalk 01:02, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Orville: You didn't link an article. Were you intending to link to something like WP:TRANSLATE (or es:Wikipedia:Traducciones)? - Purplewowies (talk) 01:29, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Purplewowies: Yes, the first link is what I had intended. The second link is even better! Thank you Orvilletalk 02:02, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
