November 8[edit]

How to[edit]

How do I add an new section. Under an soccer players games and teams I want to add a awards section but I can’t figure out how — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brosenow (talkcontribs) 03:32, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Brosenow: Add == Awards == where you want the section, or === Awards === for a subsection. In the mobile editor you can edit the previous section and add it at the bottom. See more at Help:Section#Creation and numbering of sections. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:01, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

first time editor.[edit]

This thread is about Retrograde and prograde motion. ---The comment inserted by CiaPan (talk) 08:48, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I recently corrected (edited) a sentence in "Retrograde and Prograde motion". I simply corrected the wind direction where Wikipedia now says a Westerly wind goes from East to West (it doesn't, A Westerly wind goes from West to East!!, and the Trade winds go from East to West. I was trying to make these correct. You can look them up in Wikipedia! I then get a message from WolfmanSF, saying my edits appear to be vandalism! It has been reverted back to how it was before I tried to correct it. I am trying to make it correct. I have tried to correct this twice now. How can I correct this blatant and obvious mistake in Wikipedia?Johnthedingo (talk) 05:33, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ping WolfmanSF to explain. – Teratix 05:47, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The sentence in question is "Retrograde motion, or retrogression, within the Earth's atmosphere is seen in weather systems that move from east to west through the westerlies or from west to east through the trade wind easterlies." So, clearly, we are talking here about weather systems that move in the direction opposite to the prevailing weather flow. WolfmanSF (talk) 06:20, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
... as indeed we should expect for something called "retrograde". Maproom (talk) 08:42, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Johnthedingo Did you not read WolfmanSF's edit summary of August 4th where your error was explained? Clearly you were trying to correct what you thought was an mistake, but do read explanations when your edits are reverted. I've adjusted the sentence to clarify that it is about retrograde winds? @Johnthedingo: Far more important for a "first time editor", and completely omitted in previous responses, is the fact that this discussion belongs at Talk:Retrograde and prograde motion, not here. ―Mandruss  10:49, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Finding articles in a category that use a sort key (or don't use)[edit]

Is there a utility where I can enter the name of a category and get a list of which articles in the category are there have a sort key for that article and which articles do not have a specified sort key (indicated that they are default sorted by their article name). I just finished cleaning up a category where the articles in that category are by the name of the state that they were in and while it wasn't too bad to figure out which ones are or aren't, I was curious about functionality. If this requires use of quarry, I'm fine with that. I checked catscan/petscan and it doesn't seem to have that.Naraht (talk) 21:26, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The API can list the sortkey for all pages in a category, e.g. [1] for Category:Historically segregated African-American schools in the United States. But the API is meant for programs. I don't know a human-friendly way. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:46, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's human friendly enough for now. I'm a programmer. :)Naraht (talk) 16:09, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Religion in Kerala wiki page[edit]

Some douches are threatening me and accusing me of vandalism when I added the following truth the myth they posted on the page under the section Christianity in Kerala: However, the story of St Thomas coming to India in 52 CE has been contradicted by a recorded history. There was a Thomas who came, but he was a Syrian merchant, "Thomas of Cana", and this happened around 500 or 600 CE. In-depth historical research on this topic can be found in the book --cite book |author=Ishwar Sharan |year=2018 |title=The Myth of Saint Thomas and the Mylapore Shiva Temple |series=History of Christianity in India |publisher=Voice of India Publications |others=Church History Association of India |location=New Delhi-- by former Christian monk Ishwar Sharan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tyriandrogo (talkcontribs)
