Bangarmau vandlism[edit]

Several IP addresses are vandalizing the page Bangarmau. It is so chaotic that I honestly don't even know how to begin to revert everything - it's so much I don't even know what to revert! We really need somebody with rollback privileges and somebody who knows more about the subject so that they can figure out which version in history was before the vandalism started, and rollback there. Right now the page is just a mess! I know that it would be more relevant to mention this on the talk page of "Bangarmau," but that talk page has been inactive for many years, so I doubt that there would be any kind of response anytime soon, and this issue should be fixed in the near future. If this conversation continues for a while, maybe we could move it to Talk:Bangarmau. --SkyGazer 512 talk / contributions / subpages 02:47, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@SkyGazer 512: I don't know much about the subject so I'm not sure what's vandalism and I'm not quite comfortable reverting anything but if it is found to be vandalism the best thing to do is to either warn the user if it's just a one or two editors or request page protection if it's multiple editors. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:42, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SkyGazer 512: You can also request page protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection and report vandalism if this continues at WP:AIV. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:49, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rolled back to last clean version. Thanks for bringing this up. Lourdes 04:13, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Lourdes! I'm glad you were able to figure out which revision to revert to. And as for semi-protection, HickoryOughtShirt?4 and TheDoctorWho, it is true that persistent vandalism by several IP address users has been going since 4 August 2017 up until now, with very few constructive edits in between these 2 dates. Personally, I will probably request for semi-protection if any more vandalism by IP addresses appears on the page.--SkyGazer 512 talk / contributions / subpages 13:45, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SkyGazer 512: If you haven't enabled it already something that can help with things such as requesting protection and warning users by automating part of the process is Twinkle. If you're interested you can get more info at WP:TWINKLE. TheDoctorWho (talk) 14:03, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, I never realized that much was possible just by enabling something so simple! I have now enabled it, which will help a lot with vandalism on pages. Thanks for letting me know about it!--SkyGazer 512 talk / contributions / subpages 15:16, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SkyGazer 512: Twinkle is a great tool! If you have any questions about how it works or what it can and can't do leave a message on my talk page or drop another message here. TheDoctorWho (talk) 16:20, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

References throughout Wikipedia the Republic of Cyprus and Northern Cyprus[edit]

There are references throughout wikipedia to (a) the country of Northern Cyprus and (b) the non recognition of the Republic of Cyprus.

Please amend your records to reflect that Northern Cyprus is NOT a recognised country. It is not recognised by more than one UN member State.

The Republic of Cyprus is a recognised country - a single entire country and its Government is responsible for administration of the entire northern and southern parts of Cyprus. This administration is subject to the northern part of Cyprus being under de facto administration and control by the Northern Cyprus administration - known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus - since its acquisition of the northern part of Cyprus from the 1974 war.

The Northern Cyprus administration - the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus - should be in the list of UN Member States not recognised by at least one UN Member State.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is only recognised by Turkey. The relationship between the administration of the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is one of defacto / forced sharing of control.

As it currently stands, Wikipedia records are creating a country that has yet to come into existence. This is not correct for a factual / informational database. Please correct the records. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olivetree22 (talkcontribs) 03:20, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Olivetree22: If you have suggestions for improving an article, please post on that article's talk page. The article for Northern Cyprus already states that it is recognized internationally as part of Cyprus and only recognized by two countries to be something else. RudolfRed (talk) 03:32, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Northern Cyprus is not itself a UN member state so it should not be in the list of UN member states not recognised by at least one UN member state. We have around 5000 articles mentioning Northern Cyprus. I find it ironic that your only specific suggestion is to give it false recognition as an alleged UN member. Issues contributing[edit]

For the last 10 days, I've tried to add a summary of a few sourced articles and context (all linked) on the page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV3_(Catalonia)". I believe these are relevant to the section in question, and adds context to a topic that is very polarized within the Catalan society. One user insists in removing everything I add, and I've tried more than 12 times in the last week to re-add it, but he/she will remove it straight away. I've also tried following his/her criteria of linking my source without elaborating on them, but he/she is not following the same standards when it comes to detailing his/her sources. He/She tells me that everything I put is "my opinion" whereas I am making an effort of simply summarize the articles that are on the public domain and linked accordingly, and reflect the views of thousands of people. I really just wanted to contribute by adding information I believe needs to be known, but I can't take this no more, as it is affecting my sleep. It's a shame that Bullier's contributions prevail in a place such as Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NarcisVila (talkcontribs) 04:42, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss the edits on the article's talk page Talk:TV3 (Catalonia). The other editor started a thread there several days ago but you have continued to attempt to insert your material without responding. You should also read WP:BRD and WP:EW. Meters (talk) 08:26, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Strictly Come Dancing Series 15[edit]

This article has been locked and protected until November 2018, almost one year after the show it relates to finished airing. There are errors in the page and these have been posted on the talk page several months ago, yet nobody has acted to fix them. Why is this article locked for such an extended period? My understanding is "Anyone can contribute to Wikipedia by clicking on the Edit tab in an article." I appreciate that there may have been some disruption in the article, but since the series is now finished and the requests for the edits have been ignored, it's time to reinstate the very basic principle of wikipedia and allow anyone to accurately edit the article. If vandalism occurs, there is an 'undo' button available to the owners of the page which takes 1 second to click.125.31.37.146 (talk) 10:46, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Talk:Strictly Come Dancing (series 15) it seems that edit requests are being answered. Perhaps you should make a request there. (See Wikipedia:Edit requests for more information.) nagualdesign 11:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Someone translated this article into Chinese a year ago but it was soon deleted due to "Lack of Notability". On the other hand, I noticed that this article has six versions in different languages, which suggests that "Natives (Éditions)" possibly worth an article. Then it should have passed the notability test. Could someone tell me whether this article meet the demand of notability?--Tiger (Talk) 15:18, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The test is whether there are multiple published independent reliable sources which have in-depth coverage of the subject. At present the English article does not have such sources; perhaps you can find some? Wikipedias in other languages may have different notability criteria. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:26, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am going to AfD this one.
MFJE, the main contributor to Natives (Éditions), seems to be Franck Bénéï, per the upload info of File:Marina_Tchebourkina,.jpg (a photograph of an artist that Natives publishes); they also uploaded the Natives logos at Commons. The contributions show promotional intent, but arguably the edits are mostly constructive; "there is no conflict of interest" is certainly disingenuous, but it could be ignorance.
My quick-glance opinion is that sources on the existing en-wp article are weak. "Surprisingly" there is no article in fr-wp; a bit of hunting reveals it was deleted by the fr-wp AfD process; MFJE asked for restoration here but it was rejected (the last comment is IMO a fair summary, and says Closing as denied, as OP has been explaining for weeks to administrators that they do not understand notability policies (translation mine)). Considering the topic and main author, I suppose a fr-wp article had been written, but had been deleted shortly thereafter (I could not track that at fr-wp though). I furthermore suppose that the fr-wp discussion about this alleged article was somewhat thorough, and as fr-wp's notability standards are not far off en-wp's, this suggests that notability is lacking.
