April 26[edit]

This sentence is at the end of the Early Life section of this page - She resented Raine, whom she called a "bully", and in one occasion "pushed her down the stairs.

To me, the grammar is incorrect i.e. - in on one occasion.

Please repair if you agree. Thanks 175.32.157.249 (talk) 05:07, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Avengers: Infinity War page contains the entire plot (including spoilers) before the release of the movie[edit]

THE ENTIRE PLOT OF INFINITY WAR IS ON THE FILMS WIKIPEDIA PAGE. SOMEONE NEEDS TO REPLACE THIS WITH THE SINOPSIS OF THE MOVIE BEFORE DISNEY SEES IT. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.115.144.117 (talkcontribs) 06:10, April 26, 2018 (UTC)

We don't censor plot spoilers. If someone does not want to ruin the story for themself they should not read the article. The movie has been released so there's no problem discussing the plot. The issue of whether the plot is too detailed, or is improperly sourced or copied is under discussion at Talk:Avengers:_Infinity_War#Revert_request_to_"short_plot"_version Meters (talk) 06:20, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Profile"[edit]

How do I create my profile? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vincent amorosi (talkcontribs) 06:26, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a social media site with "profiles"; it is an encyclopedia with articles on notable subjects. For guidance on how to create an article, see WP:Your first article. If you are asking about how to create a user page, see WP:user pages. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:21, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

removal of incorrect information[edit]

Hello,

I am hoping to get a line remove from the following page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Campbell_(general)

The line i am wishing to have removed is:

One of Campbell's last acts as the Chief of Army was to end a century of tradition by removing 'death imagery' from patches and badges.

This is not factually correct and the matter that it references is an internal Australian Army matter.

If anything the line can read

As Chief of Army, Angus Campbell issued and internal minute directing personnel to remove 'death symbology' from all items within the Army.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Louise Avent (talkcontribs) 06:29, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The ususal place to discuss this would be on the talk page of the article. I was considering changing the wording as you requested, but I am not able to view the reference without a subscription here in the UK, so I cannot judge whether your sentence more closely matches the account given in the newspaper. Perhaps you can find another reference that is not behind a paywall? Dbfirs 09:32, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to upload/publish an image that I improved into the specific wiki file?[edit]

I have improved an image by adding labels to indicate the orientation of the image. I am new and I don't know how to upload the image to the specific wiki file as an improvement. LimbMagC (talk) 08:59, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cell membrane
 • @LimbMagC: Let me first start by saying you intentions are appreciated. The way images work here is that you first upload them to Wikipedia or to Wikimedia Commons, and then you include them in articles. You managed the first step but not the second.
I would strongly encourage you to convert your image to .svg (as the original one), per Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload (even though it is not mandatory). This should be a simple "save as..." option in Gimp.
Afterwards, head over to Wikimedia Commons where the image is hosted, click the "upload a new version of this file" link (which in our case will be this link), and upload through. Make sure to notice your changes in the "file changes" box, but keep the same name so that image inclusions in articles are replaced.
Alternatively, you could replace images inclusions in articles; for instance, Endomembrane system contains the wikicode which you could replace by

case of Holocaust denial on Wikipedia[edit]

On Talk:Typhus#Typhus in concentration camps an IP editor writes: In all honesty it should be mentioned that the Germans invested tremendous efforts into hygienic measures like showers, Zyklon-B delousing gas chambers and others. Please remove this obvious case of Holocaust denial (which is illegal in several jurisdictions) from the page and its history. Thanks. Jahoe (talk) 11:06, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jahoe: I removed it because it's nonsense troll garbage, per WP: DENY. I'm not sure if Wikipedia has any rules against holocaust denial, but it should have been removed anyways.💵Money💵emoji💵Talk 11:27, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick action. Jahoe (talk) 11:33, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
After that had been solved, I searched for wikipedia rules on holocaust denial, but didn't find anything. Does anyone have a clue? Nothing urgent really, just interested. Thanks. Jahoe (talk) 12:10, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no specific rule concerning holocaust denial - it inherently fails WP:NPOV and WP:FRINGE, and usually falls under WP:RS as well, and is dealt with via those mechanisms. In practice, it's just revert-on-sight and block the trolls. There are few quicker ways to lose all credibility on Wikipedia than to advocate for holocaust denial. Acroterion (talk) 12:15, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, good point. And thanks for the policy links, I'll study them. :) Jahoe (talk) 12:20, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
 • Doesn't look like denial to me, more like antisemitic trolling (Germans invested tremendous efforts into hygienic measures like (...) Zyklon-B delousing gas chambers = "Nazis killed the Jewish insects/parasites", so it is not denying it happened, it just says it was a good thing). Of course, that should still be deleted. TigraanClick here to contact me 12:23, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was that too, two sides of the same coin. Actually, the WP:NPOV discussion uses Holocaust denial as an example. Acroterion (talk) 12:25, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's denial to me because it calls Zyklon-B a delousing agent, while it was obviously a chemical weapon. Jahoe (talk) 12:50, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I should clarify that, because the context is no longer there. The removed text suggested that the gas chambers and the use of Zyklon-B was an attempt to control typhus in the camps. Jahoe (talk) 12:58, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Per Poe's law it can be hard to distinguish between parody and extreme views. It sounded more like mean parody to me but I support removal in either case. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:38, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the use of Zyklon B as a delousing agent is a thing among holocaust denialists. It was originally an insecticide, and there have been recent attempts to alter WP content to make that a plausible, erm, alternative scenario. Acroterion (talk) 01:14, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I second this assertion. I have seen holocaust denialists use that argument multiple times online. Acebulf (talk) 12:33, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
 • I issued a level 4 warning though I came close to blocking the IP. This sort of thing is often treated as a zero tolerance form of disruption. -Ad Orientem (talk) 13:34, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know too much about the warning levels, but I'm glad to learn that my post is taken seriously. Note that the deleted remark is almost 2 years old and it's the IP's only contribution. That suggests to me it's a dynamic IP. A block may have been ineffective anyway.
The whole issue was quite shocking to me initially, but I believe we handled it adequately now. Perhaps we should leave it at this; to help facilitate that I'm adding a resolved-tag.
To all who contributed to this thread: thank you for your support. Jahoe (talk) 16:31, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Resolved
Just noting that the warning probably won’t reach the intended target since the edit (sigh) was made in 2016 and apparently nobody noticed it until now. Geolocation says it’s a static IP in Pretoria, South Africa, so it’s possible the same person still has it.. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:51, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The warning will probably not reach anyone, I agree with that. The edit was made in 2016 (yes, sigh) but that doesn't mean it isn't an issue. I may have been the first to raise an alarm, but that doesn't mean that nobody noticed it. Let's not tolerate holocaust denial or discrimination in general. Jahoe (talk) 18:29, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I’d rather believe nobody noticed it at all, it was so reprehensible I can’t imagine how anyone could have seen it and not thought it was a glaring problem in need of immediate rectifying. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:37, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Have submitted draft for review, now I cannot find it[edit]

Hello,

I submitted a draft article for review about a month and a half ago (maybe less). I have gone to check on the progress and do not know where I can retrieve this? I feared it may have been deleted but cannot find it in my deletion log, either.

Apologies if this is an ignorant questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bonejac. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BobScruggs (talkcontribs) 11:12, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@BobScruggs: It looks like it was deleted, because I don't see it in your contributions (Deleted articles don't show up in contributions). Do you remember what the name of the draft was? If you do, I can find out why it was deleted.💵Money💵emoji💵Talk 11:22, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It was Draft:Daffy's Gin, deleted for being blatantly promotional (having looked at the deleted content, I would agree with the deleting administrator's assessment). Yunshui  11:26, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Money emoji: You can find deleted pages using the "edit count" link from the foot of the user's contribution record, in this case https://xtools.wmflabs.org/ec/en.wikipedia.org/BobScruggs . Of course if you're not an admin you can't see the page or its history, but you can see the deletion log at Draft:Daffy's Gin. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:33, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@David Biddulph: That's cool, I didn't even know that existed. Thanks!💵Money💵emoji💵Talk 12:52, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NEW PUZZLE GAME PIECES called DIAMONDOMINO[edit]

I have invented a 20 piece puzzle game, which I am about to market, similar to the 12 piece puzzle set called PENTOMINOE & would like to create a Wikipedia article to help promote its use. What information should I provide to educate & encourage businesses & people to manufacture & use this new set of puzzle pieces? An invention company is preparing a brochure for release soon. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I would highly recommend you don't do this. Wikipedia is not used to find new customers, and defiantly not used to promote your brand.💵Money💵emoji💵Talk 14:50, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You misunderstand the purpose of Wikipedia. It is an encyclopedia, not an advertising hoarding for you to use for promotion. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:54, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DIAMONDOMINO[edit]

HOW DO I CREATE AN ARTICLE FOR MY NEW INVENTION CALLED DIAMONDOMINO? Charles H. Checkley

Don't, read what we said above.💵Money💵emoji💵Talk 15:13, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, even in talk-pages, naming a product as promotion is likely to get those topics hidden as sub-topics under thread "Promotional requests" as a collapsed page thread. -Wikid77 (talk) 16:03, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Account Issue[edit]

Please forward to correct department as I did not see Help for accounts.

I attempted to create a new account and got the error "there is no email associated with that username" -- dsschuh I also attempted to log in with both emails - see next line. <redacted>

Please attach <redacted> to my account - if there is one. I'm sure I set one up years ago. Can you please tell when I did? And reset my password.

Thank you.

 • Firt off, you should never publicly post your email address. I’ve removed the address from the post for you.
 • To your actual question: User are expected to maintain control of their accounts themselves. There is no way for anyone to add an email to your account if you have not already done so. If you aren’t able to log in and don’t have an email assosciated with the account, then I’m afraid that account is just lost and you’ll have to start a new one. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:09, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The account User:dsschuh was created 6 June 2014. The account did not specify an email address (this is optional) and has no edits. Just create a new account with another name. If you are really attached to the username then you can request usurpation after you have created another account but this makes work for both you and us, and there is waiting time. List Update[edit]

Please,

How do i include an organisation in a category? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samidrisu (talkcontribs)

By editing the article. At the bottom of the page add and then save the page, and the category will be added. More information is at Help:Category and there is a helpful gadget you can use called hotcat that makes it even easier. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:13, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Samidrisu: Note that it's only possible to add a subject to a category if the subject already has an article. If you also want to create an article then it becomes far harder because there are standards for articles. See Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) and Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Unhelpful complaint[edit]

hi.

i am willing to donate because i like & use wikipedia many times. but... two years ago i made a addition to the article about Zakynthos ( Greece ) wich was ABSOLUTELY true ( i can proof this by photograps ) and it was fucking removed because someone didn't like my comments because of tourist industries.

how independent is wikipedia anyway?

as long as i don't get any answer on that , no support from me - or my busines friends ever.

Kindly regards ,

C.N.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a02:a443:8dc5:1:80c2:df01:70d1:55be (talkcontribs) 26 April 2018 22:01 (UTC)

A: You don't need to attempt to extort us in order to get us to help you with an edit; We would have looked into it anyways. B: Can you elaborate on what information was taken away and how the photographs prove the information?💵Money💵emoji💵Talk 22:14, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you could provide a more definite date than 'two years ago'. There were hundreds of edits to the page in 2016. If you find your edit in the page history and click on 'prev' it will display your change. You can then post the link here so volunteers can look to see why it was removed. Eagleash (talk) 22:20, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not show advertisements or allow payment to influence content. Here are the 2016 edits to Zakynthos: [1]. You didn't identify the edit so we cannot see what happened but the most likely reason for removal is not giving a published reliable source when it was added. Add a person to a list[edit]

How do I add a footballer to the list off players at a club?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lee Collopy (talkcontribs)

@Lee Collopy: Your edits show you refer to Category:Leek Town F.C. players. This is a category and not a list. A category shows articles so a person can only be added to a category if they have an article. They should satisfy Wikipedia:Notability or Wikipedia:Notability (sports) to get an article. It appears you are trying to add yourself so see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:54, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I played for Leek Town FC in the 2005-2006 season. There are newspaper articals that confirm this. Also their own website page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lee Collopy (talkcontribs)

I trust you but you cannot be added without having an article and I don't think playing for Leek Town F.C. satisfies article requirements like Wikipedia:Notability (sports)#Association football. The club appears to play in a league which is not fully professional and is around level 7 or 8 in the English football league system. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:43, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I notice, PrimeHunter, that the link to the category page in the club article is described as ". . . a list of all Leek Town players, past and present . . . ." [my italics], and as you intimate above, all the names listed on the category page are blue links to articles.
However, in the club article, not all of the listed Current Squad are so linked, and they do not all appear in the category list. We perhaps need to decide whether or not the category list is indeed meant to be "all Leek Town players, past and present"; if not we should modify the description – easy, or if so someone would need to embark on writing all the missing articles – rather challenging! {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.218.14.51 (talk) 22:46, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"all Leek Town players" is definitely wrong. Wikipedia does not want that for a club like this. It's also confusing to call it a list when a category and a list in Wikipedia are different things. I have changed the formulation.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 23:20, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
