David Hogg[edit]

David Hogg is described as a "survivor" of the Stoneman Douglas in Parkland school shooting. This is totally false. David Hogg has admitted to being at home during the shooting, and riding his bike to the school after. Re-creating a deleted article - worthiness of inclusion?[edit]

I didn't create this page originally, but a link from another page led me to it: William Bolton (Royal Navy Officer) - which shows that it has been deleted, and I understand the reason (A7) (although without being able to see what was there originally, cannot comment on its justifiability).

Having done a fair bit of research on this man (partly but not exclusively because he's an ancestor), I believe that he is notable enough to warrant inclusion. If you have a look at his potted bio here: Wikisource Royal Naval Biography - Bolton, William, you will see that he was close to Lord Nelson both in blood and friendship/patronage; he was captain of 4 ships which have Wikipedia articles about them (and another with no article as yet and lieut. on another); he was knighted; there are several letters which passed between him and Nelson available online (during Mediterranean battles with the French, mainly); he married his first cousin who was niece of Nelson (and would have been in line for the Nelson earldom, with her twin sister, had they been male - instead it went to her younger brother; they married at the home of Nelson's long-term mistress, Emma Lady Hamilton, and witnessed by her eldest daughter; there was a coin minted with his likeness; there were several long obits written upon his death, etc.

I'm not a highly experienced editor and have yet to create an article from scratch, but think that I could cut my teeth on this one. I have edited and improved citations on articles here and there and do have some understanding of what is required. What do you think? Hi Laterthanyouthink. As you won't be re-creating the article in the same form that got speedy-deleted, there is nothing to stop you. But please be sure you muster adequate published sources and not rely on Wikipedia articles or other wikis as references. As this is your first new article you may want to read Your first article and go through the Article wizard, which will guide you in making a draft for review at Articles for creation; the worst that can happen there is that the draft is declined with suggestions on how to improve it: Noyster (talk), 12:10, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • To clarify: do not cite the article at Wikisource. Instead, cite the work from which the Wiksource article was transcribed (the Royal Naval Biobraphy, 1823), and use the wikisource article as the "convenience link" in your citation. In my opinion, that's about as reliable as a source can get, so Bolton is notable. Others may disagree. If so you will need to add one or more additional reliable sources. Surely there are articles in the Naval Gazette or Gentlemen's Magazine, if you can find them, even if you cannot find him in more recent histories. -Arch dude (talk) 19:54, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I do have several other sources (which I didn't make clear above, sorry - all that info isn't in the RNB bio!), and will take your advice about using the original RNB as a source rather than Wikisource. Hello,

I have created a page and in doing so have made two errors :

1) I published it with the wrong title

2) I published it on the French page but it is in English

I am searching for the "how to fix it page" but cannot locate it.

Can someone perhaps help me?

Hi Dickturner. A page cannot be moved between different language Wikipedias. I see you created fr:User:Dickturner/Brouillon. That is a sandbox (test page) for your own account. Wikipedia languages have different policies but I guess the French Wikipedia doesn't care that you write English in your sandbox as long as it's only there. I suggest you use Wikipedia:Articles for creation to make a draft at the English Wikipedia and submit if for review. You can manually copy the content from the page at the French Wikipedia. There is normally a requirement to attribute the source when you copy within Wikipedia but in this case you are the sole author and allowed to copy your own text. " Check |url= value" error in reference on In2TV article[edit]

Hi all,
Yes, this a 50K+ edits admin asking for assistance here. (This is a 50K+ edits admin who is well aware of their own limitations when it comes to technical stuff.)
I've spent a good 20 minutes or so trying to resolve this via the Help:CS1_errors#bad_url thingy. Would really appreciate your help.

Can't Tell If My Article Draft is Awaiting Review[edit]

I recently created the biography article draft Draft:Brian Satterwhite in the Article Wizard. I thought I submitted it for review, but I can't tell what stage of that process it is in. I also created the article Draft:Film Score Focus and submitted it, but it gives me the yellow notification that it is awaiting review. This notification is missing from the "Brian Satterwhite" draft. I'm wondering if I submitted it improperly and how I can make sure that the "Brian Satterwhite" biography article is awaiting review. @Bmsatter: Hello, the draft is not currenrly submitted. If you feel it is ready for mainspace you can place {{subst:submit}} at the top of the page which will submit it for review. @Commie cat164: Hello, you can start by reading Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy where you should find editors willing to mentor you on the subject who will provide you with some prepared assignments also. I would recommend that you also gain some experience in editing 'generally' which will help you when it comes to 'vandal fighting'. Bert Brenner[edit]

I have a photograph of Bert with his then new wife in 1915. They are my grandparents. I would like to offer it to the page as there are no pictures of him on any baseball site. Thank you for your offer Amazon21467. Most often, images are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Once there, the image may be used in Wikipedia articles in any language. This page will guide you through the process. On the contrary, it was a classic example of a "fake article": a user page which is formatted as if it were a Wikipedia article about the user; and that is a thing which we will not permit here. I'm sorry if this offends you; but we're not a webhost, and will not tolerate this kind of attempt to sneak yourself into Wikipedia as if there you were yourself notable. --23:55, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
