Creating category of pictures

Hi,

I added another picture for the Customs Examining Warehouse Calgary, and in the process I had to create a Category, but not sure if I did it correctly ?

This is the Category I created:

Category:Customs Examining Warehouse Calgary

And this was the main Wiki page I was modifying: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_historic_places_in_the_Calgary_Region (Customs Examining Warehouse )

@Mpeel: You did exactly right job. I've checked category and its all right. Butt you added image directly in the category, you should add category in the image, so edit this File:Customs Examining Warehouse Calgary.jpg, and add the following text in the bottom of file,

[[Category:Customs Examining Warehouse Calgary]]

Format issue with reference numbers

I created a map in Veiholmen, a short article with little prose. So the map wasn't lost down under the infobox, I put it on the left side. With narrow screen widths, everything is fine. But with larger screen widths, the References sections moves up to the right of this map and the ref numbers are obscured under the map. It looks like the Reference section indenting doesn't work properly if the section isn't at the left margin. Any advice? MB 03:38, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

@MB: I hadn't seen this post, but for unrelated reasons I was fixing something in that article, and I reduced the size of the map and repositioned it to avoid the unsightly river of text between the map and the infobox. The map may be "lost down under the infobox" now, but I think the article's layout is better. Deor (talk) 19:11, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Photomontage

Could someone help me with creating a photomontage? I thought it would look nicer than putting in a gallery, and there isn't enough space to put all the photos in by themselves. My efforts on the sandbar section of the page Point Walter on this edition of the page didn't go so well. If someone could swoop in and format it nicely that would be much appreciated. Did I do this template conversion right?

In Special:Diff/804328730, I converted the rows of a large table full of numbers in CAS latency to use helper templates Draft:CAS latency group and Draft:CAS latency row to do the computations and format the rows. You're welcome to opine on whether that spreadsheet should be in Wikipedia at all, but I wonder if I did a reasonable job with the templates. Are the names okay? Documentation needs improvement? Any other comments?

Basically, what should I do before moving the templates out of draft space?

I could eliminate the "thirds" argument and derive it from the last digit of the frequency using

{{#switch:{{#expr:{{{frequency}}} mod 10}}|3=1|6=2|7=-1|0}}

but is it worth the complexity?

Hello, The Falcons. I'm sorry to break this to you, but you do not have a profile. Nobody has a profile on Wikipedia: that's not the sort of site it is. If we have an article about you, then that is what it is: an encyclopaedia article about you, which is (or should be) almost entirely based on what people who are not connected with you have published about you: what you say or want to say is of little interest or relevance to Wikipedia. If we have an article on you, and you think there should be changes to it, you are welcome to suggest changes on the article's talk page, but should not edit the article directly: see WP:AUTO#IFEXIST.

If you're not thinking about an article about you, but somewhere to share a bit about yourself: any editor may have a User page (you haven't created yours yet) on which they may share some information about themselves if they wish, but it should mostly be information about themselves as a Wikipedia editor. Hello, The Falcons. I'm sorry to break something else to you, but Wikipedia does not allow user names that represent a group. organisation or band. You will need to create a new account or change your username, or if the account is to be used by only one individual, then this should be made clear on your user page. Citation title

@Tcdn:  Fixed: You need a |title= parameter as well as an access date. Please see Template:Cite web for more information and WP:REFB for a basic guide to adding references. The source may not be considered WP:RS as it is basically a blog using a free web-hosting platform. See WP:UGC. Eagleash (talk) 15:48, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

@Tcdn: Special:Diff/804372274, made just after yours, provides the answer. As for other information:

• |accessdate= is recommended for web pages and other sources that are subject to later editing
• |date=March 13, 2012 would be nice to include, since the source is dated
• |first=Sarah and |last=Goddard to identify the author
• |website=Sommelier Scribbler – A Wine Blog describes the source better.

Put together, that results in:

Goddard, Sarah (13 March 2012). "Sparkling Icewine – Uniquely Canadian". Sommelier Scribbler – A Wine Blog. Retrieved 8 October 2017.

TemplateData not working

I have recently expanded the TemplateData for Template:Ordination. However, when I try to edit articles in the mainspace using Visual Editor, only the parameters up to Bishop 130 and Consecration Date 130 appear. On the template's page, the TemplateData goes up to 180. I have waited several days for the severs to purge, etc., but there has been no fix. Ergo Sum 15:51, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

reverted external links by another user/administrator?

Multiphase flow meter (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hello, following my addition of a link to the page of Multiphase flow meter, similar in content to additional prior 5 links of commercial corporations such as mine, i was reverted on my link, with the cuase of being promotional. the links of Schlumberger, Emerson/Roxar, Haimo for example, are redirecting also to their own product pages on their websites, while i was reverted. i want to understand the logic and differnetiation that leads to this revertion, is it justifiable and how can i add the link without being reverted again. i believe it also applies to pages of watercut meter and refining where i was also reverted, appreciate the share of knowledge in order to learn, or, if others are legitimate, to undo the revert by the user or admin, not sure if admin. thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yoav dov (talk • contribs) 17:17, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Florence Mary Bird - I created This page and it has been deleted and sent to DRAFT status

Dear Editor(s),

A page that I created titled Florence Mary Bird has been deleted and sent to DRAFT. Being new to Wikipedia I am sure that some of the issues that led to the deletion are valid. However, several of the main reasons seem totally bogus and, with all due respect, RIDICULOUS. Florence Mary Bird is in fact a well-know American artist (sculptor) and the page I created on her behalf (she is 87 years old and has little or no computer experience - certainly not with Wikipedia. In effect, by removing her page, you have blatantly ignored a LIFETIME of well-known work. The photographs and several news articles CLEARLY demonstrate PROOF that she is in fact a well-known artist with a 70+ year career and many, many works (some costing hundreds of thousands of dollars) are installed in State Parks in the U.S., and editors are saying she needs to provide more notable references. We've included news clips, the websites from the STATE parks, news articles, etc. so I have no idea why her "notability" would be called into questions. Additionally, ALL of the artwork used in the page are the subject's OWN WORK is was clearly stated in all of the uploads. Also, as the author, someone called into question me having a CONFLICT OF INTEREST (COI) as one of the primary reasons for deletion of the page. That is ABSURD. I have no financial, personal or business relationship with the subject - - other than attempting to create her wiki page (at no cost). This is me helping an 87-year-old artist with no computer experience to be listed via a Wiki page. I understand that Wiki has rules and guidelines and I have made every effort to attempt to address said issues. Removing this artist from Wikipedia is in my opinion short-sighted and an affront to her lifetime career as an artist. I have attempted to address said issues but I also see in many of the comments, that other editors are also calling into question the page removal over things like some of the photos.

I find the REPLY system difficult to reply to (again, most likely my fault as a fairly new author) but this has become a ridiculously time consuming effort to provide information about a legitimate artist. Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that this person (Florence Mary Bird) is in fact a legitimate artist with well-know works of art in PUBLIC parks and I have provided what I believe is valid support of that. Its fate was discussed in Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Florence_Mary_Bird. You should have argued your case there. Anyway the article was not deleted, which means that you can improve it by adding appropriate reliable sources and then request a new review. Ruslik_Zero 20:19, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

@Bob Schiers: Hello Bob, in addition to what Ruslik has said, there are a number of posts and links at your talk page which give helpful advice. Please take the time to read all carefully and follow the advice. The main problem with the page seems to be the lack of inline citations (see WP:REFB for how to add these) and to a lesser extent that the article has not been written from an entirely neutral point of view this is quite important in an encyclopedia and it is often difficult for persons with a connection to a subject to address that particular issue. The page was not deleted at the AfD mentioned above as it was felt that it had a good deal of potential and was moved to draftspace so that you could continue to develop it with less likelihood of it being nominated for deletion. Please also see WP:NOTABILITY and WP:GNG in respect of establishing a person's notability in the Wikipedia sense, This requires substantial cover in mainstream reliable sources written by persons independent of the subject. If as you say, you find the process a bit long-winded and difficult for a new user, you are probably right about that, but other editors will usually 'point you in the right direction' but not necessarily write the article for you. How can I change the title of my Wikipedia page?

Hi! My name is Nemr Abou Nassar, my wikipedia page is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemr_Abou_Nassar

I'm a stand up comedian and I dropped my last name long ago, about three years ago, and just go by Nemr. My wikipedia page however is titled Nemr Abou Nassar and it constantly causes problems whenever there is press involving me you'll see my Last name pop up.

Is there a way to change it to Nemr? Or do I have to make an entirely new page? In which case is there a way to delete this one so we don't have two versions?

There are two far more important things before the article title is sorted. You shouldn't edit articles that are about you (please read WP:COI - it's important). Also, it is not your Wikipedia page, it is the Wikipedia article about you, you have no control over its content, beyond pointing out error's and omissions. • I have created what we at Wikipedia call a redirect page. This means that if anyone searches in Wikipedia for "Nemr", they will automatically be transferred to the page "Nemr Abou Nassar", so there will be no need now to change the name of that page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:08, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Need help with formatting

Hello. Based on this automated edit by Citation bot at Sexual Desire (book), there appears to be a formatting error at the article. I don't know how to correct it, however.  Fixed FreeKnowledgeCreator The problem was that first2 and last2 parameters had been used twice in the citation. I fixed this here by using first3 & last3 for the third author. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:50, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

"En dashes" in dates

Hello, I made this edit on Glad (band) and it flagged me for a "CS1 error"; apparently the dashes in the dates are wrong. I looked up the page on CS1 errors and in their example the "en dash" and "hyphen" look identical. I tried everything (short of banging my head against the keyboard) to place an en dash but it's still flagged. Can someone fix this? It would help me to know about en dashes for future edits. Thanks. @Foreignshore: I use en dashes a lot. I just memorized alt-0-1-5-0, (And alt-0-1-5-1 for em dashes) but there are other ways. --S Philbrick(Talk) 20:44, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
