Is there a good alternative to "black", when it's not country specific?[edit]

Maurice Ashley is the world's first black chess Grandmaster. I'd really like to use a word other than "black" - are there good alternatives? "African American" won't work because it's world wide. (Ashley has even used "black" himself, but he seems to use it a little reluctantly). Adpete (talk) 00:18, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In Britain, "Black British" is evidently still the common term. As an aside, I was amused when a US newsreader referred to a black member of British Parliament as being "African-American". 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:65A7:28DA:7F79:4E50 (talk) 04:15, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Adpete, I wouldn't worry to much about using the term black in this case as the sources provided as per this [1] states that he is the first black Grandmaster. So its correct term as per source NZFC(talk) 04:35, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've heard the same thing as the IPv6 — replace a simple universal descriptor with a localised euphemism, and guess what, people misapply the euphemism universally. Nyttend (talk) 22:32, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

McKee City New Jersey[edit]

McKee City, N.J. is in Egg Harbor Township, not Hamilton Township as posted on Wikipedia... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.11.39.102 (talk) 00:24, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple sources state Hamilton Township (e.g.) -- can you find a source stating otherwise? 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:65A7:28DA:7F79:4E50 (talk) 04:51, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Toon Boom Animation's removed filmography sections[edit]

Hi. The Films, TV Series, Music Videos and Video Games sections on Toon Boom Animation were removed in August for being unsourced. Can anyone here please find sources for the titles? Thanks! 5.167.49.12 (talk) 05:12, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The first place to ask is on the article's talk page. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:14, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Requested it there. 5.167.49.12 (talk) 05:20, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note IP user isn't hearing what they want to hear and is asking in multiple places including here, here User talk:70.35.195.179 and at the Wikipedia:Reference desk/Entertainment. Its been explained to them they have to find the source and also it the article really isn't the right place for the list they have made. NZFC(talk) 05:27, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Export GTT→Wikipedia[edit]

Dear all,
I have imported an Article from Wikipedia into the Google Translator Toolkit and translated it. Now I am unpleasantly surprised that I don't find a way to export it back to Wikipedia. I only find a way to download a rather useless HTML document that resembles a Wikipedia page.
Is my work now worth a honoured place in my trash folder, or is there a solution?
Thank you in advance!
Yours, Ciciban (talk) 10:47, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ciciban. The format of wikimarkup, though it is now quite widespread in the sense that many organisations use the Mediawiki software for their wikis, is not any kind of standard, and it would be rare to find any other tool which can export it, so I think that technically you're unlikely to find a way to make it work. But in any case, what it sounds as if you're trying to do is very much not recommended: please see WP:MACHINETRANSLATION. --ColinFine (talk) 14:38, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ciciban. If you want to translate an article to a Wikipedia in another language, it may be better to use the Content translation tool. I used it to translate an article I expanded into Spanish, and the tool automatically imported the wiki markup such as templates and images. Of course, ColinFine raises a very good point regarding machine translation; before publishing my translated article, I reviewed the text, fixed the grammar and rewrote parts of it. –FlyingAce✈hello 20:23, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@User:FlyingAce
Thank's for the hint, but I did not feel comfortable with that tool. I decided to dispose the completed translation and do it again in GTT, this time feeding it with the wiki-source-code.
The result is de:SLM-Flug PY 764.

Found a help request[edit]

Could someone please help Dqtexas (talk · contribs) with the question he posted at Wikipedia:Requestedarticles, and then either move the misplaced page to his userspace or delete it? Thanks! – Train2104 (t • c) 13:23, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I moved it to User:Dqtexas/Requestedarticles. Ruslik_Zero 20:30, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bio page link to userpage?[edit]

What's the current protocol on whether and how the bio page of a notable person in the mainspace should link to their Wikipedia editor profile? --The Cunctator (talk) 14:38, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Crow Thanks, updated.

French Senate[edit]

Hey,

I'm new and I would like to know how to put the two first pictures of Senate (France) left and near the History paragraph. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.124.218.19 (talk) 19:57, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • The "Politics of France" box below the infobox has a setting ({{Clear right}}) that causes the images to load after the bottom of that sidebar. You could move the {{Politics of France}} line to after the images. On my screen that looks the same, but the images are in the right place. I'm not sure how that will look on other display sizes though, so you may want to test and discuss on the talk page. CrowCaw 20:09, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unsalting[edit]

Where do I request the unsalting of Eggy? There are sufficient entries for a dab page. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:42, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Future reference: Wikipedia:Requests for page protection#Current requests for reduction in protection level (WP:RFPU; WP:UNPROTECT). Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:48, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
