COMO Parrot Cay[edit]

Good evening, I would like to change the Logo for the COMO Parrot Cay page to reflect our new company logo. Could you please let me know how to proceed?

Thank you Thibaut Asso Regional Director of sales and Marketing COMO Parrot Cay — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thibaut24 (talkcontribs) 00:51, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Thibaut24 and welcome to Wikipedia (WP). The answer to your question is below, but please do read the whole post.
If you are working for COMO PC in the marketing department (as you claim to be), your edits on WP most likely qualify as paid editing as they are part of your job. These must be disclosed, as part of the terms of service. Read the link to "paid editing" to know how the disclosure is made.
Even if it does not qualify as paid editing, you certainly have a conflict of interest in this area of edition. One should usually refrain from editing articles in one's domain of COI, but strictly factual corrections such as uploading a new logo are probably fine. However, do not edit the prose in the article to add promotional material.
Moreover, since the logo of your company is most likely copyrighted material, there are licensing issues:
  • Either you authorize Wikipedia to use the logo under its license (CC BY-SA), which roughly means anyone (not just Wikipedia) will be allowed to use it. It may be beneficial from a marketing point of view to allow the wide distribution of your material, but you might want to talk with the legal team of your company about this. Details about the implications of the license and the procedure to follow are outlined on this page. If you upload the file outright, it will be deleted, because anyone could upload the file and claim to be you - you need to prove who you are.
  • Or you can upload a non-free image, in which case it has to follow the criteria of WP:NFCC. In practice here, it means that you must upload a low-resolution file.
Once you have sorted out these issues, the technical way to proceed is to go to the page for the image, in that case File:Parrot_Cay_logo.jpg, and follow the link "upload a new version of the file". Let us know if you have any other problems. TigraanClick here to contact me 13:22, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please help. I got it wrong. Ref number 55 is actually from a book, not an on-line news article. As a book, the ref should have those long numbers. Please fix. Sorry guys Thanks ~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srbernadette (talkcontribs) 04:20, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 Fixed with this edit --2606:A000:4C0C:E200:79CC:9632:9DD5:631F (talk) 05:33, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Near the end of ref number 15, a whole ref. has been wiped out -there are accents and the colour red. Is something not 'closed". Did I leave an accent off? Please fix if you can — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srbernadette (talkcontribs) 05:07, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 Fixed - Missing closing ">" in ref. --2606:A000:4C0C:E200:79CC:9632:9DD5:631F (talk) 05:14, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It is Wikipedia policy to place in italics any other name that a person has or may have - in this case Pippa Middleton will be known in time as another name (according to the refs.) so we put that name in italics.58.162.53.185 (talk) 07:31, 21 July 2016 (UTC) Hope this helps[reply]

Where is the policy you refer to? Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biographies shows examples with bold for alternative names but not italics. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:25, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Vinod Bhatt[edit]

Reference help requested.

Thanks, Panchalsonasan (talk) 12:01, 21 July 2016 (UTC)I will correct it as soon as possible[reply]

@Panchalsonasan: The ISSN you entered (2447-2394) is not valid (the final digit is a check digit, and the calculation fails). You probably made a typo - check the number and re-enter it. —  crh 23  (Talk) 12:56, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Info box or geo box templates[edit]

Albany Maritime Ministry
Executive director
William G. Hempel III

Hi, Yesterday, I asked (in different words) in Teahouse about info boxes, but no one replied. Please help! I'm creating my first Wikipedia page about a non-profit organization and want to use an info box...or maybe a geo box...the truth is that none of the templates fit my needs, exactly. So, I ask:

  • Is it OK to modify a template, that is, to rename some elements so that a line of code might change from something like |founder = [name] to |director = [name] ?
  • Is it ever OK to delete some of the template elements? I read that Wikipedia likes people to keep the template elements they don't use in case someone wants to add info in the future, but I just need a few simple lines with an image and am emblem, and templates have so many lines!

Thanks in advance for any information you can share--I want to be a good team player. Illuminer2 (talk) 14:01, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Illuminer2: Changing |founder = [name] to |director = [name] would only work if the template is coded to accept a parameter called director. Please use existing infoboxes when one exists for the type of article, but don't try to change the source code of templates. As a new user you don't have the template knowledge and experience to do this. Template:Infobox organization has a lot of parameters and they are all optional. Just use the ones that apply to your article. Others can be left blank in the page source without affecting the display. Only consider omitting them if they are unlikely to be used. Note you can choose some of the labels by using parameters designed for the purpose like | leader_title = Executive director. I did that here. Edit this section to see it. Got it! Thanks. Illuminer2 (talk) 15:27, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Summit Medical Group[edit]

Summit Medical Group

I was doing a Google search for this local medical conglomerate and shockingly found it in Wikipedia. Someone clever in their marketing or PR dept. has apparently gotten over on Wikipedia passing any scrutiny and leveraging the platform to hide their otherwise blatant advertising. Very shameful that it is listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8C:4104:7AB:E464:21EA:7739:CEF1 (talk) 16:42, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Having just checked out the Article, I disagree with your assessment. Although, from the evidence of the its History and Talk pages, it was originally unacceptably promotional, considerable work by disinterested Wiki editors appears to have rendered it into acceptably neutral and factual tones and added sufficient references to meet (if only just) the criterion of Notability. Title blacklist question - Draft:Puttana Venkatramana Raju[edit]

I reviewed User:Rajendrarajun/Puttana Venkatramana Raju and tried to move it to: Draft:Puttana Venkatramana Raju. The move was denied because the target title is on the Title Blacklist. In the past, when I have tried to move a sandbox or user page to draft space and the move was denied due to the (very unfriendly) title blacklist, the usual problem has been that the title was in ALL CAPITALS, and would pass when made into proper mixed case (which needed doing anyway). In this case, I can’t figure out what the problem is. I still don’t like the title blacklist. I still think that the way it is applied is extremely unfriendly. Is there some part of the target title that has been used abusively in the past?

By the way, I did try to read the regexps, and couldn't find anything obvious. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:01, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's .*putt?ana.* on meta:Title blacklist, added in [1]. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:40, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Insults? In some language? Can an English Wikipedia admin override a meta blacklist block? If so, I will request a technical move. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:28, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Images for Harry Jackson (artist) article[edit]

I hope this is an appropriate place to ask for assistance (apologies if not!). I submitted an edit request on the Harry Jackson (artist) talk page to add three fair use images to the article. One editor has responded, "I'm not confident the images will be acceptable since they are not at least fair use". I think this is because the file pages currently display a warning template because they are fair use but not included in any main space articles at this time. Is someone willing to respond to this edit request by adding these three images to the article?

I've posted an edit request and asked to help at WikiProject Visual arts, but no one has responded and the fair use images are set to be deleted within a few days if they are not added to the article. I don't think my request is controversial, but I prefer not to edit the article directly given my COI. Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 19:29, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Have you read WP:Non-free content, which explains the rules under which we allow fair-use images? Two items you might want to consider are:
"an excerpt of a significant artistic work, notable for both its production and performance, is usually included only in an article about the work, which is then referenced in those about its performer and its producer"
and
"most common pictorial needs can be met with an image containing no more than about 100,000 pixels"
Two of your images are over 300,000 pixels.
These are not necessarily the only problems, merely the ones I saw in a brief glance. You should review the above-linked page carefully, and ensure you comply with all its requirements. Ask here if you have any specific questions. Rojomoke (talk) 19:53, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2 problems - Ref 56 is mucked up. It needs it's full ISB number . Please fix up . Also ref number 53 is all wrong - there is red writing there 23:12, 21 July 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.139.149.95 (talk)

ref number 53 is all wrong - there is red writing there. Please assist144.139.149.95 (talk) 23:30, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved

The isbn No. was readily available by clicking on the blue link within the reference. The 'red writing' said "text ignored" and stated the offending text. Removing the the text also removed the error. Having said that the source does not fall within WP:RS. Eagleash (talk) 23:37, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
