I cant find my draft[edit]

Hi, how do I edit my saved draft as in where is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djdamienboss (talkcontribs) 00:50, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your question here is the only edit ever made by your account. I do not sees any draft you have made. -- GB fan 00:59, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you tell us the title, and/or give us details about what it is about, we may be able to help, but we are not telepathic. - Arjayay (talk) 09:53, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Djdamienboss: Your account has never saved anything. Some new users misunderstand the interface and incorrectly think they have saved a page. If you were not logged in when you saved then we may be able to find it if you say what it was about. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:20, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Hide Page Categorization"[edit]

Under "Watchlist options" the ability to hide "page categorization" appeared several months ago (or at least, that's when I noticed it). However, checking that box doesn't seem to stop the onslaught of edits such as this. Is there any way to filter out these edits from AWB-folk who don't go full-bot? Alternatively, is there any sort of killfile that I could apply against specific prolific editors that are enamored with such inane changes? Antepenultimate (talk) 05:27, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Antepenultimate: "Hide page categorization" only has effect when you are watching a category page so I guess you are watching the article and not one of the categories. I don't know a way to prevent such edits on your watchlist. Maybe a user script could be made to remove edits with "AWB" in the summary but a script wouldn't know whether the edit is changing a category or other parts of the article. It might make a guess from "recat using AWB" but that summary was probably chosen by this specific editor. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:31, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rabha Baptist Convention[edit]

"Rabha Baptist Convention" is a Protestant denomination of India. It has 51 congregations. It has about 12000 members. It is in the East of India, primarily in the state of Assam. The Union is made primarily of Rabha people, an indiegenous ethnic group of North East India. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.231.44.84 (talk) 06:05, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you tried to change the text in Rabha Baptist Church Union to read "Rabha Baptist Convention", but provided no references to verify the change. A Google search returns about 3480 results for "Rabha Baptist Church Union" but only 6 (including 2 for this page) for "Rabha Baptist Convention". --David Biddulph (talk) 08:35, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a new triad in Neurology[edit]

Hello, I am Nasser Nadim MD, publisher of a triad in Neurology researches named: 'Mais- Nadim Nasser Triad', in the Journal of Genetic Syndromes & Gene Therapy ISSN: 21577412 at 2014. I hope you will include thi Triad in the list of Neurologic Triads in WIKIPEDIA. Thanks very much Nasser Nadim — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.114.146.227 (talk) 15:05, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nasser Nadim. I guess the article you are referring to is List of medical triads and pentads. In general, like anybody else, you could edit it, and if you are not sure how to, you can make a suggestion on its talk page Talk:List of medical triads and pentads. However, since you are talking about a triad named after yourself, you have what we call a Conflict of interest, and you are acting correctly by asking for somebody else to add it; but again, the Talk page would be a better place to ask.
Having said that, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information; as a rule, topics are added to it only if they are notable in Wikipedia's special sense; that is, if they are the subject of substantial published material independent of the subject or its associates. In my view that article already contains a lot of material which should be removed, or at least should be removed unless independent sources can be found, and I would not want to encourage adding more unreferenced (or only non-independently referenced) information. --ColinFine (talk) 20:06, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any way to embed an audio or video clip from Commons but only play a section of the file?[edit]

Hi

If there is a long audio or video file on Commons (e.g 20 mins) is it possible to embed it on Wikipedia in a way that only plays a short section of the file e.g from 1 minute 30 seconds - 1 minute 35 seconds? I'm thinking about it in a similar way as Template:Annotated_image is able to crop an image within Wikipedia without requiring a new edited version of the file is uploaded to Commons.

Thanks

--John Cummings (talk) 15:07, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For video, see Wikipedia:Creation and usage of media files#Temporal media fragments. Nanonic (talk) 16:22, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful, thanks Nanonic, do you know if it is possible to specify minutes and seconds for very long clips? Thanks--John Cummings (talk) 19:47, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two articles about the same topic[edit]

Back in 2011 I started a new article about Malvertisement not knowing that an article already existed about Malvertising. Malvertisement limped along until 2014 when an editor who said he was a student introduced some pretty strange language into it. Then in 2015 an editor proposed to merge the two articles, but nothing has happened since. Can I simply redirect Malvertisement to Malvertising which is in much better shape? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:43, 19 August 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]

Go for it. Be bold! Popcornduff (talk) 15:56, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia search autocomplete[edit]

The autocomplete is driving me bonkers — it is the strangest autocomplete I have ever encountered. When I start a search using the letters wp it insists on changing them sometimes to so other times to space. Who at Wikipedia should I inform of this? I do not participate in forums outside Wikipedia? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:54, 19 August 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]

I don't think that autocomplete is anything to do with Wikipedia. Maybe you are accidentally running some autocomplete software on your own computer, or maybe it's a feature of your browser that has got turned on? Maproom (talk) 16:58, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ottawahitech: This is exactly the behavior I see when I'm editing with my iPad; however, it's due to the autocorrect feature on my iPad, not the Wikipedia site. — Gorthian (talk) 21:27, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of editing restrictions[edit]

I have been a microbiologist for 42 years. I have been a Wikipedia editor for a few years, but I have made only one or two edits. I would like to significantly improve various microbiology sites by adding or replacing inferior or erroneous photos or videos. I am unable to do this because there is a requirement that I at first make ten edits elsewhere in Wikipedia. Is there a way that I may have the rule for ten edits removed for me so that I am able to download my photos. Some will be accompanied by small text additions. Thank-you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drhx (talkcontribs) 16:06, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As you already have 9 edits, it would be far quicker if you made and saved a couple of minor edits to User:Drhx - Arjayay (talk) 16:09, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, Drhx, Wikimedia Commons does not have an autoconfirmation requirement (presumably because it is much less subject to vandalism). You can upload pictures to Commons straight away, and assuming they are licensed appropriately, it is much better to do so, because then they can be used in any Wikimedia project (in particular, other-language Wikipedias). Normally only non-free images should be uploaded to Wikipedia itelf, but if they are your own photos, you are free to license them appropriately. Please see the Upload wizard. --ColinFine (talk) 20:11, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Citing a book review[edit]

Dear Wikipedia,

How does one add a citation if it's not the usual citation such as a magazine article, news article or TV show? There is a "citation needed" notation on this page about a book called "Through Their Eyes," by George Steffner:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Citadel,_The_Military_College_of_South_Carolina#In_literature

The citation is needed for the statement "Said by graduates to be the most accurate narrative of the school's freshman experience." How do you properly cite the source when the citations are found in the book's Amazon review section and in comments on Facebook?

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Don the hamster (talkcontribs) 16:12, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Don the hamster - please don't, because neither the Amazon review section, nor Facebook comments are WP:reliable sources - they are user-edited and could easily be added by the author, or publisher. If it was reported in the The New York Review of Books, or a similar reliable source, that would be fine. - Arjayay (talk) 16:20, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response. Does that mean that the quote at the end of the book description should be removed, with simply the book description remaining? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Don the hamster (talkcontribs) 16:43, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unless somebody can find a reliable source for it, yes, Don the hamster. --ColinFine (talk) 20:12, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Using an image in a proposal[edit]

I would like to use the following image https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-means_clustering#/media/File:K_Means_Example_Step_1.svg and others from the K-means clustering article in a text document. I understand that I need to cite the licenses - but how exactly to I do that in the text document? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Salle008 (talkcontribs) 17:34, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Since File:K Means Example Step 1.svg is in Wikimedia Commons, Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia should give you the information you need, Salle008. --ColinFine (talk) 20:17, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Did we reach consensus yet?[edit]

Hi, I just want to know if we reach consensus already in a talk page of the United States presidential election 2016? Majority of the people in the subject agreed. The name of the talk page is Clinton image voting, thanks!TexasMan34 (talk) 18:10, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How can I identify the set of Wikipedia pages that fall under category of AI that requires contribution?[edit]

Hi Team,

I recently created an account. I had contributed few edits before creating the account. Am interested in AI topics and would like to contribute to the AI related pages which need more information. Kindly can you help me to identify the list of pages of AI topics that need contribution or to be improved.

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rathisowumya (talkcontribs) 18:44, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming by AI you mean Artificial intelligence, the article comes under the scope of several wikipedia projects, one of which is WP:ROBOTICS. On the project home page you will find links to various lists of robotics-related pages, including a specific list for artificial intelligence articles. Enjoy your editing and welcome to Wikipedia! douts (talk) 19:40, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Rathisowumya: You might start by looking at Category:Artificial_intelligence. I thought I might try the intersection of that cat and a cat for articles needing improvement, but I failed to do that correctly.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:46, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There was something called wp:Suggestbot that did what you're asking for: it found articles needing attention based on your edit history and/or interest categories -- but I can't find it. Anyone? --Here's a scholarly PDF about it: SuggestBot: Using Intelligent Task Routing to Help PeopleFind Work in Wikipedia -- BTW, an interesting example of AI. 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:296A:CC64:7945:8C5F (talk) 22:47, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Is this the SuggestBot that you were looking for? Leschnei (talk) 23:55, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, Leschnei, that's the one. 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:296A:CC64:7945:8C5F (talk) 14:56, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Richard_(Rich)_Vernon added refs/cites and still getting warning message[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_(Rich)_Vernon — Preceding unsigned comment added by Handheldpixel (talkcontribs) 18:47, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, maintenance templates (or in this case a WP:PROD notice) are not removed automatically. They would be removed by individual editors who are satisfied that the issues have been addressed. In this case, although you have added some sources, they are almost certainly not enough for the 'PROD' to be removed. Wikipedia is not acceptable as a reliable source and the band website is not independent. The article needs inline citations from reliable independent sources which discuss the subject in some detail. (See WP:RS for more info). Please link to articles on talk-pages etc. like so [[:Richard (Rich) Vernon]] and sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 19:31, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can Green Party nominee Robin Laverne Wilson's picture be added to this page? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_in_New_York,_2016 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:6B42:1000:F05C:49F4:AB8D:1088 (talk) 19:16, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a freely licensed photo? If so, we can add it.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:34, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Automated ping reminder[edit]

There's an option in the preferences where, if you have it on, you will get reminded if you try to save an edit without providing a summary. Is there anything similar where, if I'm replying to a post somewhere and didn't ping the user, it prevents me from saving until after it's reminded me to ping? Because I can't remember to do it about a third of the time and I just learned that adding a ping to a message I already added to a page doesn't do anything because of a bug. RunnyAmiga (talk) 20:09, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@RunnyAmiga: I'm not aware of such an option. However, let me test a fallback. I'm going to respond to you without a ping. Then I am going to add a ping, remove my sig and re-add it. Did you get a ping?--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:37, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Sphilbrick: Sorry this took so long. No, it didn't work. I got no ping. RunnyAmiga (talk) 21:36, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, troubling, because I've tried that and assumed it worked.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:56, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RunnyAmiga: One more test--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:58, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
mw:Manual:Echo#Technical details says: "The diff chunk must be recognised as an addition of new lines of text, not a change to existing lines." The only fairly certain method is to make a new signed paragraph or indented post without changing any existing content on the page. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:08, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Again, nothing. RunnyAmiga (talk) 22:59, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @PrimeHunter:, I didn't think it could be that smart.
Back to the original request, I sometimes want to ping and sometimes not, and I'm doubtful a routine could be written to know which I wanted, so I wouldn't want such an option. --S Philbrick(Talk) 00:07, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So no ping in this line--S Philbrick(Talk) 00:09, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RunnyAmiga: But adding this line works?--S Philbrick(Talk) 00:10, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Correct on both counts. Nothing for the first edit, ping for the second. RunnyAmiga (talk) 00:22, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RunnyAmiga: So the crude solution is just to add another line with a ping and a sig.--S Philbrick(Talk) 02:24, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Sphilbrick: Got it. Thank you for taking the time to do this! RunnyAmiga (talk) 15:33, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RunnyAmiga: If you still want such a feature, I could try to code it as a user script. Are you still interested, or has Sphilbrick's solution worked? Pppery (talk) 17:01, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pppery: I am absolutely interested because as much as User:Sphilbrick helped me learn to react to a bug, I'm still in trouble if I leave a message and flat-out forget to ping. If I forget then remember a few seconds later, okay, but if I totally blank on it, my message could go into the wind forever.
But what I'm not interested in is anybody bending over backwards. As an amateur who knows about as much about coding user scripts as I do about speaking Sinhalese, I'm concerned. Would that take you a long time? Would you want to do that, or would you feel obligated? Because you shouldn't go out of your way because I'm too scatterbrained to remember to ping. If there's a tiny part of you that's going, "eh, I could do this but I'd rather get caught up on something else," or "I don't really want to do this but that doofus requested help," then please don't do it. It's not your fault there are boneheads in the world, and it shouldn't be your responsibility to sate our boneheaded needs. RunnyAmiga (talk) 17:11, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RunnyAmiga: My user script implementation is complete at User:Pppery/pingremind.js. To install it, create User:RunnyAmiga/common.js containing the text
importScript("User:Pppery/pingremind.js")
There are a few known issues with it that I may get around to fixing:
  1. It doesn't work on AFD or MFD debates Fixed. Pppery (talk) 19:07, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  2. It only works when you edit a specific section
  3. It only works if you sign your post
If you have any further questions, feel free to post them on my talk page. Pppery (talk) 13:08, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Aw, this is so cool. Gonna try it in the very message you're reading. RunnyAmiga (talk) 22:41, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pppery: Aw, no way, it totally worked! This is way, way awesome. RunnyAmiga (talk) 22:42, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Peruvian New Sol Page Loophole[edit]

Hello I'm a Peruvian wikipedia user. The Peruvian currency was named: sol between 1863 and 1985, inti between 1985 and 1991, New sol between 1991 and 2015, And in 2015 it was RENAMED back to just "sol" But in the title in this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peruvian_nuevo_sol, it keeps saying New Sol and the Peruvian sol page is alredy used. How can this be fixed? In the spanish Wikipedia we just changed the title because the currency has not changed, just the title. Please if posible change the title. -Lockermade lockermade (talk) 07:52, 19 August 2016 (UTC-5)

lockermade, you should comment on the article's talk page in order to get a consensus as to what the title should be named. Also please see a related discussion here that cropped up yesterday on the old sol's talk page. RegistryKey(RegEdit) 02:59, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RegistryKey: Thanks, I just did. Hope someone realices the mistake and can fix it. lockermade (talk) 05:17, 20 August 2016 (UTC-5)
