April 1[edit]

Using an image[edit]

Is there any photo from the first two rows of this search I would be able to use in an article? I'm not too clear on which pictures I'm allowed to upload. Thanks in advance. JTtheOG (talk) 00:03, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Almost certainly none of them. Unless there is a clear copyright release or a license compatible with Wikipedia's requirements, we must assume that they are all copyright and not licensed on terms we can accept.--ukexpat (talk) 00:28, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

local consensus[edit]

Can a local consensus override a wikipedia guideline to prohibit or curtail it?

What constitutes a consensus? How is it determined when a consensus is reached and how are the consensus results determined?

Hi, User:107.14.54.13. This is covered here - Wikipedia:Consensus#Level_of_consensus. That whole policy page is a good read, but feel free to ask further questions if you have any. CaptRik (talk) 07:40, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758[edit]

The introduction paragraph states:

The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 was passed in response to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1668 that required any change in China's representation in the UN be determined by a two-thirds vote referring to Article 18[1] of the UN Charter. The resolution, passed in October 25, 1971, recognized the People's Republic of China (PRC) as "the only legitimate representative of China to the United Nations" and expelled "the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United NationsItalic text."[2] This motion came after US President Richard Nixon's announcement on July 15, 1971 of planning to visit Mainland China, which created an unfavorable climate[3] for the Republic of China's bid to remain in the UN. The General Assembly admitted the People's Republic of China with a two-thirds super majority of votes. This resolution remains a point of contention on the political status of Taiwan and the United Nations Charter.

That statement is in error. The ROC occupied their seat at the UN as the legal representative of China until passage of this resolution. At no time did they hold the seat illegally.

The statement is misleading and contradicts Wikipedia stance as a non-politicized instrument. Please remove that statement.

Article - United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758. The content in the article appears to be a direct quotation from the wording of the UN resolution (see the picture in the article to confirm) therefore I believe the statement is not made in error. The article does cover this in the Controversy section. I would suggest starting a talk page discussion if you feel there is any well sourced information that can be used in the article. Redirecting a page because the name of the institution has changed. How?[edit]

The "University of Vic" is now called the "University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia".

How can I do a redirect for this?

--Iamwretched (talk) 11:41, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You can use the move link at the page – but you need to be an autoconfirmed user to do that (see WP:AUTOCONFIRM). --CiaPan (talk) 12:40, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not allowed to edit pages that are semi- protected and I am registered how can I edit this page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LordVader2015 (talkcontribs) 18:41, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@LordVader2015: With your two edits at this help desk, you have made ten edits with your account. You should be able to edit semi-protected pages now. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:45, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

not certain why I'm receiving this, it seems harassing to me[edit]

Copyright violations: final warning[edit]

Please don't add copyright material to this wiki, not even temporarily, like you did at Autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia. Please re-work the content before you save it. This is the second time you have been warned about this unacceptable practice. This is your final warning. Any further copyright violations will result in you being blocked from editing. — Diannaa (talk) 21:49, 1 April 2016 (UTC)--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 22:05, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

after having posted here this is the diff I have been left on my talk page[1]?...where is the copyright?
  • Hello, it looks like while you were editing on March 25, you added content to the "Symptoms" section that was directly pulled from http://patient.info/doctor/autosomal-dominant-cerebellar-ataxia. You then went back and edited it so it was no longer a direct copy, which in itself was good. The message on your talk page was a reminder not to ever save content that was directly copied from elsewhere, even if you immediately plan to rewrite it, as that is a copyright violation. The best thing to do is always to write from scratch in your own words, or as Diannaa mentioned in the message, to edit and rewrite it before you save the page.
  • I can't link the specific edits to you, as they have been deleted from the history as copyright violations. I hope this clears things up, but if not, feel free to follow up. CrowCaw 22:33, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think your advise is good and I believe your opinion is in good faith, however to say final warning/next time block I don't believe is consistent with this case at all(in regards to OP on my talk page)--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 22:38, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, to be completely fair, this same admin cautioned you for doing the same thing in a different article on January 1 of this year. So today was a reminder not to do that, with a further note about consequences. It may seem harsh, but copyright is one of those policies that has legal considerations for Wikipedia, so we do generally have to be what might seem aggressive in preventing violations. CrowCaw 22:47, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
and to be completely fair it was in the process of fixing an article, and while I appreciate your words, I still believe the note on my talk page was not in line w/ Wikipedia:Copyright_violations,, I cant see what edits they are to begin with? I will drop this however the note left by Diannaa is harrasing in my opinion , and I am making note of it here, thank you, (I will not take the harassing to ANI)--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 22:57, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ozzie10aaaa, your very last comment shows good judgement at least. Your comments about an administrator who has warned you instead of blocking you (as some other admin might have done) do not. I suggest that a big bunch of flowers or a bottle of Caol Ila or something would have been a more appropriate response.
Crow's already given a full explanation of what happened and why. One thing (sorry, Crow, don't fully agree): I don't think that copy-pasting copyright content and then copy-editing it to make it look like your own work can ever be a good practice; I believe there's a risk of creating a derivative work if you do that. My advice would be simply to make sure that you never paste copyright material into Wikipedia. Just a thought: had you considered using the preview button more often, and the save button correspondingly less frequently? It'd make the edit history a lot easier for others to follow. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:47, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
you are correct in every point you have made and I thank you (I still do not agree w/ the manner of the original post on my TP), thank you again you have been very kind--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 23:58, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
