Help:Cite errors/Cite error references missing key[edit]

In the article, List of Attorneys General of West Virginia, all my inline citations are properly formatted and now all of a sudden, without any edits, I now have 8 cite errors appearing in the article. Has a change been made to a template that is causing this issue? Any assistance that could be provided would be of the greatest help! -- West Virginian (talk) 00:54, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You made extensive additions to the article on 30 May 2015. In displaying the history, the 23 May 2015 version, which is shorter and does not have the text that you added, does not have the cite errors. The 30 May 2015 version does have the cite errors. Did it have the cite errors when you edited it on 30 May, or is that new? If that is new, it is (as you suggest) likely that a template has been changed. In this edit of yours, a number of citations were added, West Virginian. At least one fo them uses {{harvnb}} inside a named ref tag. As I understand it, harvnb doesn't work properly if used that way. i think this is what is causing the errors. DES ^(talk) 03:35, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, ref name="must have no spaces", doesn't work, ref name="must_have_no_spaces" does. That's why I like {{sfn}}. >MinorProphet (talk) 20:50, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MinorProphet, I think you are mistaken there, <ref name=Three Word Desc> doesn't work, but in my experience <ref name="Three Word Desc"> works just fine, althoguh I often prefer <ref name="ThreeWordDesc">. But then i'm not fond of {[tl|sfn}}, {{harv}}, and related tools. A matter of style and preference. DES ^(talk) 01:51, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, DES, you are right and I was mistaken (sigh). I have come up against similar broken cites before, and have tried quite hard to resolve this particular problem; but something else beyond my meager tech resources does indeed seem to be broken. Bazzie Awards[edit]

Creation of article[edit]

Hi I am banned from creating any BLP according to a January 2015 consensus. Can I make an article about a case, where a man lived with the skeleton of his sister and his dead dogs? His name is Partha De. I dont want to name the article as Partha De to make it a BLP, can I make it "Partha De case" ? The details can be found here and here amongst others. Probably not, because this case is probably not notable (especially if the Daily Mail is one of the best sources about it), and if it includes text about living people that would probably violate the "not writing BLPs". Joseph2302 (talk) 11:01, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disput on the Dulaman page[edit]

I have editted wikipedia on and off for years. Recently I editted the Dulaman page - the Irish language work song about seaweed - to add a summary of the story of the lyrics.

This was reverted by user:DissidentAggressor. I thought my edit had made the article better so I engaged this user on his talk page User_talk:DissidentAggressor#changes_to_Dúlamán. I reviewed the policy pages and showed, I believe, that my changes complied with policy.

I went back and editted the page again, as we discussed, and got reverted again and warned [[User_talk:Filceolaire#June_2015

]] I feel biten, twice. There may be problems with my edits but I think they are clearly trying to make the article better. i think they clearly do make the article better.

Can someone else have a look at this as I am feeling furious and don't trust myself to be civil. Is this really the way good faith editors are meant to be treated? Is this the right forum? filceolaire (talk) 10:35, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The other editor has tried to explain to you why he or she thinks that the additions are against Wikipedia policy. If you read the other editor's comments and still think that your edits will improve the article, read the dispute resolution policy. Then follow one of the procedures recommended in that policy for a content dispute. This case might in particular be appropriate for requesting a third opinion. Edit page title to correct. "London chessboxing" should read "London Chessboxing".[edit]

Hi

I've just set up a page for London Chessboxing but the page was created with incorrect capitalisation of the work "Chessboxing". Presently it ready "London chessboxing"; however, "London Chessboxing" is a proper noun and both words should be with a capital letter. Please can you get this amended or let me know how I can do this as it hasn't been obvious from my searches.

The way to do that is to move the page. The move button is in the drop down menu titled "more" up at the top by the history button. However, the page is currently marked for deletion as being overly promotional. Actually London Chessboxing (the capitalisation appears to have been changed) is under deletion review for lack of notability, not for being promotional. @Gjapaterson:, @Rojomoke: London chessboxing was a different and longer article on the same topic. I tagged it for speedy deletion as promotional, and Reaper Eternal deleted it. (It included such text as "London Chessboxing's unique event style provides an electric atmosphere for both the chess and boxing elements whilst still making the chess accessible to a chess novice.".) It was unreferenced. London Chessboxing is tagged as not clearly establishing notability, but is not under any sort of deletion procedure at this time. I now suspect that between the info in the deleted version, and what could be found by a proper search, a reasonable class-C article could be written, but I'm not sure. But since the deleted version was unsourced, it might be better to just start with what can be gleaned from proper sources, if anyone wants to work on London Chessboxing . Victor Kovalenko[edit]

@Rogervaughan: Yes! As long as he is willing to license them under a free license that allows anyone to use the images for any reason, including their own commercial interests. He cannot be more restrictive than that (i.e. saying that they can be used on Wikipedia only, or for educational/non-commercial use only, etc.) Please see this page regarding how he can send permission to donate his images to Wikipedia. --Nick⁠—⁠^Contact/_Contribs 19:52, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just want to clarify that when we say "the pictures belong to Victor", we mean "Victor took the photographs", not "Victor owns the photographs and/or prints of those photographs and/or film/files from which they are printed".
