Downloading specific categories[edit]

Hi all,

Is there any way to download/export all the articles from a specific category and its subcategories? (The one I'm looking to download is Astronomy).

WTKK Stunt Logo Links[edit]

I have the links to all the original stunt logos thus so far for WTKK, if you're interested, to be added to the article if it's appropriate to do so. The links are there for the taking and these logos can either be used or not. I'm at least making them available so that the Wikipedia community can decide what to do with them. These are all the original logos that were found from the original stunt format websites for WTKK. This is just an attempt of an inexperienced Wikipedia user to help provide some stunt logos for the WTKK article.

I'm afraid I don't know how to upload image files into Wikipedia; therefore, I've provided the links to all the original logo artwork image files (.PNG) so that somebody who's a bit more privy to how exactly the Wikipedia image uploading system works—and who's not just a good-faith amateur user of Wikipedia, such as me—can scoop 'em up and upload them into the WTKK article… I appreciate all the courteous replies to this posting. 98.229.132.126 (talk) 05:22, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Off topic for your question, 98.229, but I find it quite wearing reading your Text With Every Word Capitalised. It's not SHOUTING, the way all caps is, but it still seems to me to be saying Look At Me I'm Terribly Important. Segunda piel / Second Skin (1999)[edit]

This film is currently described here:

Second Skin (2000 film)

However, although there is a film released in 2000 of this name (filmed in South Africa), the film described on this page is not that plot. The film described on this page is a Spanish film in Spanish and released in called Segunda piel released (English title Second Skin). Clearly the title of the page should show 1999, not 2000. So, not only is the page title incorrect, it also conflicts with a potential future article to which the current title would unambiguously apply. Also, since this is a Spanish film, maybe the title should be the original Spanish name? I have made the minimum edits to correct the year in the Info-box and lede paragraph, but leave it to others to review and amend the page title, inter-wiki links, etc. Enquire (talk) 04:24, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:COMMONNAME, I don't think the Spanish name should be used, but the article should be moved to Second Skin (1999 film). When the South African film gets an article, it can use this name. Kayau (talk · contribs) 08:34, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help on interwiki link to Wikipedia in another language[edit]

In editing Puff, the Magic Dragon to add information from the German page for the song, I found my way to Help:Interwikimedia links to learn how to make a link to a page on a WP in another language. I didn't find an answer till I got down to "Examples".

I've added a row, "Wikipedia in another language", in the main table; details are on the talk page there. Will someone more knowledgeable than I please check my work to be sure I've done it right? Thanks. --Thnidu (talk) 04:41, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Yes, you've done it right, but usually we don't reference Wikipedia for Wikipedia articles, even Wikipedia in another language, because it is a little... "incestuous" to be somewhat facetious. Wikipedia is not considered a reliable secondary source, because anyone can edit it. To see why, imagine if I edited the Wikipedia article on Wikipedia to say, "Wikipedia is the most reliable encyclopaedia." and the article on Encyclopaedia to say the same thing. Then if I reference them to each other, you couldn't prove me wrong!

I presume the German article is referenced. I don't read German but (presuming again) you apparently do, so you could add the same reference as given in the German Wikipedia for that fact. Intelligentsium 04:51, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sub-subbing templates[edit]

Okay, boring technical query coming up...

Suppose that I have a page, A, which contains a substitution of another page, B. Having saved this page, I then go back to page B and make some alterations - these don't show up on page A, because the data is substituted rather than transcluded. I then create a third page, C, which contains a substitution of page A. Thus, A contains {{subst:B}} and C contains {{subst:A}}. With me so far?

My question is this: will the changes made to page B be visible in the substitution on page C? Or, more broadly, does the software substitute the textual content of a page, or the page's code (and if it's the code, does it re-substitute any substituted templates)? (edit conflict)If substing B on A makes it so that subsequent changes on B don't change anything on A, substing A on C after changing B won't have any impact on the initially substed content. It doesn't "resubst" -- it substs once; period. After that, it's no longer a subst, it's just content on A. At least that's my understading... since after a subst of B on A, if you edit A, you don't see "subst B", you see the actual content that was substed then. Salvidrim! ✉

How do I solve "Use mdy dates from May 2012"?[edit]

Hello, basically I have noticed some articles, such as Zack Ryder, belonging to the hidden category "Use mdy dates from ____", in this case "from May 2012". Can I check whether there is a fast and efficient method in solving this problem, as the usage of mdy dates apparently requires clean-up but how do I find the mdy dates and what should I change them to? That's not a maintenance category but an informational one and it does not require "solving". It is added by the {{Use mdy dates}} template.--ukexpat (talk) 13:42, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I still do not understand the rationale regarding images[edit]

re:File:Accuracy International AWM 338.jpg. I have received images from the rights holder along with permission to publish various images associated with three Wikipedia articles, however once uploading the first image a message has appeared stating 'This tag is not a sufficient claim of fair use.' Actually that image has the same problem. Images that have not been released under a free license by their copyright owners cannot be used on Wikipedia. The only exception to this are images that are being used under a fair use claim under US copyright law. Such images need to satisfy the criteria listed at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria in order to be usable at Wikipedia. Those two images both violate point 1 under the Policy heading on that Wikipedia page I linked. They cannot be used under a fair use claim, because both could (theoretically) replaced with freely licensed images serving the same purpose on the pages where they are being used. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 19:15, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe this, I explained in great detail why non-free rationale was applicable as there is NO free equivalent yet some editor blithely suggests that 'someone' take a photo and upload it, yet in 5 years no-one has. I guess you refer to the message at User talk:TNM The New Movement. As the blue box says, we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website. It doesn't matter whether the impression is true. You are still not allowed to have your organization as username. You should edit as an individual and not on behalf of an organization. The bit about the advertisement: in case it's not clear from what PrimeHunter says, Wikipedia does not accept any promotional material, whether commercial or non-commercial, and irrespective of how worthy, or how dubious the product or organisation is. Linking to a main article from a section[edit]

I'm working on the Hail to the Thief article. Under the section for the song "2+2=5", I've added some "Main|2 + 2 = 5 (song)" code, linking to the main article for that song. But for reasons I can't fathom, it appears as "'Hail to the Thief'" in the article. Take a look. Can anyone work out what I'm doing wrong? Popcornduff (talk) 20:22, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of people have been fooled by this template quirk. Unnamed template parameters cannot contain a '=' sign because the left hand side will be interpreted as a parameter name. {{Main|2 + 2 = 5 (song)}} was interpreted as a parameter called "2 + 2" being assigned the value "5 (song)". I have fixed it by writing {{Main|1=2 + 2 = 5 (song)}}. "1" is an optional name of the first "unnamed" parameter in a template. "1" is usually omitted but it's needed if the parameter has a '='.
