pleasant hill tn[edit]

Wikipedia I found a problem with your statement on how the town and school of pleasant hill was started. My great great great great great great grandfather moved from New York to pleasant hill and started the hole community with his family. I know this because my grand father told me it has been passed down my family for a long time.

thank you , Bailey — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.55.125.127 (talk) 00:42, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but that information can not be published on Wikipedia unless you can find a source other than your grandfather, such as maybe in a book or on a website. Once you do find that information, you can add it to Wikipedia on the appropriate page. To add a reference, add the text "<ref>", then the name of where you found your information right after the information, then the text "</ref>" pluma Ø 01:03, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eroc Clapton's name is Clapp. I do not think I will both with Wikipedia anymore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dawei4321 (talkcontribs) 03:48, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I guess you refer to Eric Clapton but I'm not sure what your concern is. The article says:
"Clapton grew up with his grandmother, Rose, and her second husband, Jack Clapp, who was stepfather to Patricia Clapton and her brother Adrian, believing they were his parents and that his mother was actually his older sister. The similarity in surnames gave rise to the erroneous belief that Clapton's real surname is Clapp (Reginald Cecil Clapton was the name of Rose's first husband, Eric Clapton's maternal grandfather)."
You should be able to edit the article by clicking the edit links. There is a glitch where unregistered users sometimes see a "View source" tab instead of "Edit" on unprotected pages, and then they have no section edit links. If this happens then you can click the "View source" tab and should be able to edit the whole page. Or you can add ?action=purge to the url and may fix the page so it gets edit links. Downloading Images[edit]

Would I get banned/blocked if I ran script that would fetch 800 px wide scaled down image version from image table (imported from dumps/images.sql.gz) at rate 1 per 2 seconds until finished for some 700,000 images (would take around 3 weeks). It would be non-intensive non-parallel one-time crawl. Do I need bot account for it or does it qualify as reason to get banned ? Gzilirion (talk) 04:52, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this wrong place to ask these kind of questions ? Gzilirion (talk) 12:18, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect this would swamp the servers that do the image scaling; I suggest you ask the experts at Village pump (technical). You will need to watch out for the legal/copyright issues mentioned at Wikipedia:Database download#Where are images and uploaded files. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:19, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The birthdate of Dr Vikram Sarabhai[edit]

The birthdate of Dr Vikram Sarabhai is 12th Aug 1919. It is incorrectly mentioned as 29th Aug, in wikipedia page. When I tried to correct, it says myu input is incorrect. Please correct the information & help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.204.162.185 (talk) 05:40, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be correct. I have found no source outisde Wikipedia to support the 29th. I changed the date of birth and added external links to support this date. Thank you for noticing. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 06:26, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for trying to correct the article. Your edit was probably reverted because it only changed one of the three occurrences of the date and gave no reference or edit summary. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:45, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Funny issue with bar box[edit]

I was fixing the dimension of an info boxes inserted by another user and, after fixing few of those, I came across Domakonda. I even copied the format lines (as far as I could understand them) from Khammam and paste them in the other article and still got the same issue. I thought it could be because of that piece of reference down at the bottom of the article but I'm not sure. Has anyone an explanation? Thanks in advance! --Dia^ (talk) 10:55, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It seems has already been fixed by another editor. --Dia^ (talk) 11:02, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah sorry, I fixed it. The issue was a bad wikilnk within the template. Wasn't able to post here as I had a surprise visit from my mother. Followed by shopping. Then work. Яehevkor 15:45, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Searching all revisions[edit]

Is it possible to search all revisions of a page at once? For pages with tons of edits, it's incredibly difficult to find out whether a particular word or string of words was included in the article at any time. Technically, it should be possible to search all past revisions e.g. by having a bot crawl through the page history and search all revisions one by one. But such a tool doesn't exist anywhere, or does it? --213.196.219.128 (talk) 12:32, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page histories are not stored by a search index so there are limitations but see Help:Page history#Searching and exporting histories. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:22, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Text formatting[edit]

How can I achieve, that at User:Toshio Yamaguchi/Template:OEIS logo the letters IS sit directly under the letters OE? The appearance I want to achieve is one similar to that in File:OEISicon.svg. Thus more specifically I want to achieve that the space between the two lines OE and IS be removed, ie they sit directly on top of each other. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 13:35, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an attempt which works inline: OE
IS
A000001. I don't know how stable it is in different browsers and contexts. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:53, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with downloading a file[edit]

I want to download File:OEISicon.svg from Commons because I want to alter it and upload it as a new version, but somehow I can't figure out how to do this. When I click on the 'Download' link at commons, a Window titled "Download this file" pops up, containing the following:

Page URL: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:OEISicon.svg

File URL: //upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/OEISicon.svg

Attribution: By Lipedia (Own work) [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

Download image file: 75px | 100px | 120px | 240px | 500px | 640px | 800px | 1024px | Full resolution

When I click one of the choices, eg. full resolution, I am taken to another url, in this case http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/OEISicon.svg. What exactly am I doing wrong? I am using Safari 5.1 on Windows 7 if that helps. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 16:17, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have Safari installed, but I suggest that when you get to http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/OEISicon.svg, you should right click and look for an option to "Save page as..." or "Save file as..." -- John of Reading (talk) 16:27, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You download an SVG image by clicking directly on the image, and than your right mouse button should lead you to something like "save this page". But please let me do that, and let me do it later, after some other people have commented. There is no hurry. Lipedia (talk) 16:28, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
First, I think you should not delete other peoples comments as you did with that by John of Reading.
Second, thanks for the answer, this works.
Third, I will wait and let other people comment before taking any further action. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 16:39, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures Problem[edit]

Hi. I've been recently adding images, and there's this problem that keeps occurring. Text keeps appearing around the image. It always has "Frameless|alt" there. You can find the problems on these articles: Hi-5 (American band), Alexa Goddard, Kimee Balmilero, and China Anne McClain. Thanks for your help! Pinkstrawberry02 (talk) 16:54, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, you don't need the "File" wiki markup in the info boxes, just put the raw file name in there and the template will do the rest. Яehevkor 17:04, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Post deleted - question the decision.[edit]

The article Anthony 'Macca' McNally was deleted yesterday. It was only written yesterday. The citings needed editing but the official reason for the deletion was that the person was not notable. In the article it states that the person is a former England u-20 rugby player who played for a Premiership team. It also states he is still playing rugby for a legitimate rugby club not in the Premiership. This information is just as useful and valid as information about a soccer player in a lower league team of which this information is in abundance. If you can have info about soccer players then you can have info about rugby players. Rugby might not be a big sport in the administrators home country but it is certainly a big enough sport in England. Although still playing the featured player has had a longer and more successful career than many other featured sports players. I ask you to reinstate the article or provide better reasons for deletion. Anthony 'Macca' McNally (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
I see from the deletion log that the article was deleted by Jimfbleak (talk · contribs) with the comment "(A7: No explanation of the subject's significance (real person, animal, organization, or web content)". I've left a message at User talk:Jimfbleak pointing to your question here. -- John of Reading (talk) 19:40, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why this is a more appropriate forum than my talk page, but so be it. I deleted this article because there was no evidence of notability, the only reference was to a message board which didn't support the text, and the language was spammy with lots of unsupported claims. He played well... is known as a team player and communicator with a winning mind-set... He is more notable as a rugby union player... playing and training with the Bees - and enjoying playing rugby again.
I don't watch this page, so I won't be posting here again, but if the consensus is to restore, I won't object.
Thanks to John for letting me know about this discussion Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:54, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to ask for another administrator not connected in any way to Jimfbleak to look at the article. There may be a conflict of interest as there is a point in the article about a match against Bedford which is only a few minutes from the location of Reading. Also I question if the administrator is knowledgeable of the sport of rugby to submit comments about what is factual information. Does he think only celebrities are allowed on Wikipedia or only celebrities play rugby? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mistersymbol (talkcontribs) 21:25, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Onus is on you to show us notability, not the administrator who deleted it. And, to be blunt, demanding another admin tends to fail every time. —Jeremy v^_^v Components:V S M 21:28, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Jeremy I thought so - I have asked him to look at it. My guess is if I had just put the words a current lower league rugby union player it would have been different. Its still not clear yet. Also the point that he is more notable as a rugby union player wasn't meant to be taken as he is a famous rugby union player it means he is known more as a rugby union than rugby league player.

I will be able to provide further references. Also in reply to the next comment the references although not cited using correct wikipedia brackets is from reliable sources - the offical club website and area newspaper - this should have been noticed. It also shows the person listed as a player at the clubs and therefore important to acknowledge. Also the spam like content is an opinion not spam and can be deleted. I would still like you to consider reinstatement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mistersymbol (talkcontribs) 21:33, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Diego Garcia[edit]

when further reading is listed at the end of an article, I am specifically interested in Diego Garcia, there is no indication that the reading compliments the article or refutes it. An example would be to include in the aformentioned article's further reading list the book 'A Lesser Dependency' by Peter Benson, which gives details of the British Government stating that the island was uninhabited, when in fact the inhabitants had been removed by force. Should there maybe be a more balanced reading list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.32.179.207 (talk) 19:32, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Smart Phone editing[edit]

Is there a way to get it when i click edit on my phone that it opens in a new window? I've tried 4-5 Android browsers and I don't know if it is my phone or just how it is set up, but I can't scroll down in the edit window on my phone, only down the whole page, so it makes editing impossible. And when I can scroll down, when I try to click on a word to edit, the cursor jumps all over. CTJF83 19:38, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"link rot"[edit]

In the essay on bare URL's and "link rot" some of the examples of "rotted links" don't stand up to the definition of rotted links. They still lead to the Nikon service support page.Shouldn't these examples be removed and others substituted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.28.208.20 (talk) 20:41, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Bare URLs gives examples of bare URLs that would be susceptible to link rot - not links that have actually rotted, at least the with the Nikon examples. All the International Herald Tribune in the next section have indeed rotted. Яehevkor 23:47, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I write here on behalf of the personal management of the artist.

I also wrote a message at the discussion page of the article, but i haven't recieved an answer yet.

Waterproof, Louisiana and John Henry Johnson[edit]

Not really interested in becoming an editor.

However, I was just looking up John Henry Johnson, an NFL Hall of Famer, and noticed he was born in Waterproof, Louisiana. That sent me to the Waterproof, Louisiana page. Noticed he wasn't listed among Waterproof's notable people. Shouldn't he be? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.64.201.188 (talk) 21:05, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Moving an article[edit]

I have edited my article to satisfaction in the subpage of my user space and am ready to move it to the mainspace. How do I now move to mainspace - and - do I need to add a picture before or after moving there? Thank you. Old nevada (talk) 22:26, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Old Nevada[reply]

You can request a move at WP:REQMOVE. As far a pictures are concerned: that's up to you. If you have one you can add it now (subject to WP:IMAGE). Jarkeld (talk) 22:48, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But I wouldn't reccomend you move it now. I think all that's needed is the use of inline citations of the references and following of the manual of style.Jasper Deng (talk) 22:50, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded. It's not just that the article should use inline citations in favor of the general references it currently contains, but has controversial material in it and at least one quote that must be sourced with them per the verifiability policy.
