Band notability[edit]

I was in the process of creating a page for The M Machine, and the page was deleted (A7: Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject). Name of Macedonia[edit]

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have lately noticed that wikipedia has included in its database the name of FYROM as "Macedonia". Unofortunately, this is huge mistake. From ancient history, it has been repeated that Macedonia is a Greek tribe which is located in the Greek area. The people so called "Fyromians" are Slavians and they have no connection with this history indicated in the article. Not even their language has nothing to do with Macedonian! FYROM is their temporary name until they solve this dispute with Greece. Greek people support that their real name is Skopje or Vardaska as it was previously mentioned globally in WWII. Please, make the appropriate corrections for the name.

I think that you have misread whichever page you are looking at. Macedonia is a disambiguation page with links to many other pages; one of those is Macedonia (terminology) which explains the situation. So does the article on Republic of Macedonia, which is a redirect from FYRM and from FYROM. - David Biddulph (talk) 12:42, 2 November 2011

The name ofthe country is Republic of Macedonia. the Greeks should get over it. They are a great people; so arethe Maceddonians. This is 2011,not 1912!!

Date showing incorrectly[edit]

Under the picture for article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubba_Smith The month of death is showing incorrectly and if you edit the page it is entered as 2011-08-03 but viewing the article is looks like October 3rd, 2011.

If you mean you don’t want to show you a table of contents on any page, go to My preverences > Appearance > Advanced options, and uncheck “Show table of contents (for pages with more than 3 headings)” (But you need to be logged in for that.) —teb728 t c 21:10, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your request could refer to three different features and none of them have been removed by Wikipedia. If you mean the show/hide link has disappeared for you in the table of contents then the feature requires that JavaScript is enabled in your browser. Hattusa[edit]

That's strange. It's actually the same for me, renders to 75% and then stops. I tried some other articles and they render fine. Tested in Safari and Internet Explorer 8 and the problem occurs in both browsers. I have no idea why that is. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 00:06, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The problem seems to be caused by the template {{hide in print|{{unicode|𒌷𒄩𒀜𒌅𒊭}}}} in the page markup. I pasted that template to User:Toshio Yamaguchi/Sandbox and that page does not render as PDF either. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 00:19, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request to mainspace article[edit]

Hello - I recently finished the article at User:SierraSciSPA/William H. Andrews (biologist). Full disclosure: Dr. Andrews is my boss, so I have an obvious conflict of interest. However, I believe he's clearly a notable figure, I think the article is well-cited, and I don't think it reads like an advertisement.

So, to head off any problems, I was hoping another editor (an admin if possible) could read it over, make sure it's okay, and mainspace it for me?

My concern is that you are not editing as an individual - I don't see how you, as an individual, would be the copyright holder as the upload suggests. No one has access to the account other than me personally. Yes, this is a single-purpose account, but it is not and has never been a generic corporate account. I didn't mean to suggest that I, as an individual, hold the copyright to this image. I wrote on the upload form "Sierra Sciences has released this image under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license" because I am an employee authorized to release Sierra Sciences' images under Creative Commons licenses. Well might be best to request a username change per WP:CORPNAME, if possible. Either way, I'm not too up on image copyright ins and outs, but it might be worth logging something via WP:OTRS, i.e. sending an email from a Sierra Sciences email to confirm the licensing of the image (to [email protected]) which I'd hope would clear up any issues there - I'm not sure if the meta data would be an issue though. I'll try and have a look at the article, but the problem with COI submissions is while it does appear well sourced and neutrally worded, it can be hard to tell if negative information has been omitted. Rehevkor is correct - the permission must be communicated properly as set out at WP:IOWN - we cannot take your word for it that appropriate permission has been granted. I've sent an e-mail to the photographer we hired asking him to send a letter verifying his permission to release the image. As for my account name, any admin reading this can feel free change it to anything you want; I'm hard-pressed to see what possible effect this issue has on anything. I thought I'd be up-front and transparent about my COI, but apparently site policy discourages that. So, getting back to my original question - is the article acceptable for mainspace? One more question - given that the image has been tagged for deletion, how long does the photographer have to respond? It's going to be unfortunate if he waits six hours to check his e-mail and then all there is for him to see is a dead link. I've given the article a once over and it does appear neutral and relatively well sourced - and sourcing gaps aside there are a few good independent sources to establish notability, personally I'd like to see more but I have seen articles survive on a lot less. I couldn't find any gaps in the article but I admit it's not a field I am familiar with - of course being comprehensive is not a requirement for mainspace, but omissions could create neutrality issues as I mentioned above.
