URL changing?[edit]

When creating my new page, I accidentally created a URL in incorrect capitalization (I typed 'Jd & the straight shot' as opposed to 'JD & The Straight Shot').

I've looked around and read a few FAQs and I can't seen to find anything that explains how to, and if it's even possible to, change the capitalization of it in the the header. Is this possible?

CBS Primetime Shows - Welcome to the Captain, Jericho, Big Brother, Power of 10, Survivor, and Dexter[edit]

I work for CBS Interactive. We are trying to enhance our CBS Prime Time Pages (Welcome to the Captain, Jericho, Big Brother, Power of 10, Survivor, and Dexter) within your site. I have been trying to work through this site, but I am having difficulties when it comes to external links, images, references, and adding new sections of interest. Wikipedia is a great informational site and CBS would love to be able to better expose our content throughout the World Wide Web. monobook.js not working[edit]

None of the code in my monobook.js page works. I added Twinkle and a UTC clock tool. The clock works if I preview the page, but once I save, nothing. What's wrong? Fléêťflämẽ U-T-C 00:59, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried clearing your cache? For most browsers (eg. Firefox, Internet Explorer), holding Ctrl and pressing F5 while on the monobook.js page will enable all new code. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 01:05, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You should really consider upgrading to Firefox 2. I don't think Twinkle will still work with Firefox 1. And possibly, you need to enable the JSL gadget in your preferences if you do want to try Twinkle on Firefox 1 --TheDJ (talkcontribs) 13:26, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help - need to understand why my article failed[edit]

Help, please. This question is about an article I posted, titled Futurekids. It was taken down quickly after posting late last week. In spite of many citations and references, it suffered a quick death.

Preparatory to posting, I thoroughly researched Wikipedia's article prep rules in addition to the subject matter. Having succeeded with editing on another article, I respect Wikipedia and wish to comply and to contribute. The subject article is just the first worthwhile entry I have in mind on the overall subject of 21st Century Education. While Wikipedia offers content on education, differentiated 21st century education awaits a high quality article. I wish to be the author of that basic article.

Having researched the topic, I believe that my entry on Futurekids met general requirements. The notability is the impact Futurekids has had on the overall subject. Clearly, some of the activities and successes constitute pioneer work of substantial influence.

I would be delighted to be mentored as I have an abundance of energy, a desire to support, and substantial education that can be put to beneficial use.

Please help me succeed. What did I do wrong?

Sorry, but it looks like Futurekids was deleted per speedy deletion criteria G11; a user felt the page was blatant advertising. If you'd like to recreate it, please make sure that you adhere to Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and provide some reliable citations. Feel free to contact me for more assistance. Cheers! The article was deleted by User:Sean Whitton on grounds of "blatant advertising", for which see Wikipedia's Criteria for speedy deletion. I've looked at the first version and it does read kind of like a press release...
If you try again, and someone requests the article's speedy deletion, you can insert a {{hangon}} tag and talk about it on the article's discussion page.
I'd recommend you start off with a small, short article that doesn't give so much detail that it looks like an advert.
One final thing: there are also conflict of interest issues to take into account, since it seems likely you're involved with the company. If this isn't the case, then carry on; but if it is then you should note that editing an article on your own company is strongly discouraged, though not strictly prohibited... Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a dictionary, whereas our Wikipmedia sister project, Wiktionary is a dictionary, so a defintion entry would be better placed there if it isn't already represented. However, both here and there, the use of newly-minted words (neologisms) is not generally suitable. Wiktionary's inclusion standards are here. Include an external link to an article that does not have an external link section(nasopharyngeal carcinoma)[edit]

I recently went to a page, "nasopharyngeal carcinoma" and found that I could add some relevant info. However, I am unable to find an external link section for me to add a link which can provide a lot more info at that website. Are you able to help put it up so that I could include the external link?

You'd just need to create a section. At the bottom of the article, use the following code;

Following the links from his article leads to his list of acting roles, dating back to 1983 when it appears he started by playing adult characters. Let's try a search: "Leon Rippy" age. That finds: Leon Rippy: I did my first play in high school, and my first film didn't come until I was 31.... Endorsement of cantidate, WP:SPS[edit]

Hi there. Per WP:SPS, we aren't supposed to use self published sources - including blogs. However, at http://perezhilton.com/2008-02-05-we-support-hillary-clinton Perez Hilton endorsed Hillary Clinton. If it were to be stated in his article that he has done this, would it be considered a violation of WP:SPS to cite his blog in this case? It would be ok, because in that case it is also the primary source of the information. Also, we have to keep in mind that Perez exist by virtue of his blog of course. Then consider that this is a "fact". He is not making an analysis that concludes as: my reasoning "leads to me believe that clinton has a majority support among perez readers". Which would be an opinion as opposed to a fact. I see this as a WP:WEIGHT violation. Just because somebody has endorsed a candidate doesn't matter in the big scheme of things, unless you're talking about an article along the lines of Celebrities who have endorsed Hillary Clinton, or something like that.   • Hi, and welcome! That's great that you want to help out by talking things through! On any page, either an article or a project page like there there is a "discussion" tab (it's the second one from the left). Click on that and you can then click "edit this page" to add your comments. Alternatively you may see a little + sign at the top of the discussion page. I needed some help. I was thinking to create a page about an actor, but when i want to create it says "This is a protected page" So I dont know what to do? I guess someone has already created. Salting includes other capitalizations. It is bad that attempting to create an article with other capitalization will say "The reason for protection can be found in the protection log", where "protection log" links to the same capitalization which doesn't show the salting. Scanning images[edit]

What are the media guides in question (for those of us who aren't familiar with media guides)? Also, just because there is no stated copyright doesn't mean that "there is no copyright" but it sounds like from the tone of your question that you already knew that. For starters We have the 2007-08 University of Michigan Men's Track & Field Media guide and the 2007-08 University of Michigan Men's Basketball Media Guide. You could contact the University of Michigan and ask about their copyright policy on their media guides. I don't think Wikipedia has any policy that could possibly override the need to get permission from the originator of any content one wishes to reproduce on Wikipedia. If the publication containing the content does not give such permission, and is not old enough to be automatically out of copyright, one would have to obtain permission from the author or organization that published the content. See links under WP:EIW#Copy, such as: Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission and Wikipedia:Example requests for permission. In general, err on the side of caution; we should not assume something is free only because there is no copyright notice. Had page deleted I believe incorrectly[edit]

Sirs:

Am a newcomer to Wikipedia and making insertions.

Was endeavoring to create a page linked to another for a political candidate in the 2008 Alberta Provincial General Election. Am the President of the local constituency association that nominated the candidate and has authorized the publication of her biography and construction of the existing webpage.

The page was deleted indicating a "blatant copyright infringement", which is blatantly not true.

How can I resolve this matter?

Jennifer Diakiw was deleted twice for copyright violation of http://www.jen4varsity.com/candidate_bio.php which has a copyright notice. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. But there was another serious problem. The article was written like an advertisement, and since you have a conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from creating or editing an article about her. Random Article from a Specified Portal[edit]

Hello, I'm a big fan of the "Random Article" button and I've learned a great deal because of it, but I'm curious, is there a way to get a random article from a specified portal? For example, a random article from "Portal:Arts"?

No, this is not possible, because articles are not part of any portal at all. Ah portal is more a "concentrated linkguide" to related articles within the encyclopedia. Actually it is possible, but the hack is not easy. This question has appeared on the Help desk before, so we can look it up with the handy {{Google help desk}} template: Search Help desk for: random article portal. That finds Wikipedia:Help desk/Archives/2007 December 6#random article options. Check it out. Articles are not "from" portals, strictly speaking, but a portal page can claim to represent any number of categories, and the portal page can provide a link to select an artcle at random from these categories, if someone wants to do the work to set it up. --Teratornis (talk) 20:26, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright Question[edit]

I am a student worker at the UofM Library Archives and Special Collections. My task is to locate Wikipedia pages for the various collections that we have and add links to our finding-aids on these pages to help researchers find material. If a page is not there, I am instructed to create it. I am using the biographical information located on the actual finding-aid as the text. When I completed a page, this is the message I received:

I have performed a web search with the contents of Herschel Brickell, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/general_library/files/archives/collections/guides/latesthtml/MUM00043.html. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

How can I get around this? Is there a way to "donate" the text so that it can appear on Wikipedia? My new task is to answer that question.

Cant get any of my members after fifty to sign in i get login erros[edit]

is there a config file that limits users? the first fifty are able to sign in just fine and anyone

What system are you trying to log into? You don't seem to be talking about Wikipedia because we have thousands of users logged in at all times. Although I'm sure your edits were done with the best of intentions, your edits removed information that was there without explanation, added unsourced information (and Wikipedia is very keen on verifiability and reliable sources) and weren't well formatted, which is probably why someone thought that you were vandalising. Don't be discouraged from editing, though. I suggest that you discuss what information you'd like to add on the talk page of the article to see if some agreement can be reached as to what, and how, to add. Have you tried Wikipedia's Reference Desk? They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what this Help Desk is for). Infobox Problem[edit]

I want to use Template:Infobox Former Country in New Hebrides, since I found a reliable source of detailed information on the area to fatten up the article. Problem is, it won't work properly because the country was a colony of both England and France at the same time - as the template stands, it will only accept that an area was a colony of one country rather than two. How can I go about solving this problem?

Your topiramate article has under side effects that caused discontinuation of use that s/e in brackets were experienced with the placebo at the same or greater percentage than those on the medication. However, the percentages given do not match this information. I logged in to ask about this and was directed to the pharmacology project. I have never edited wiki before, and it made my head spin a bit. So I took the easy way out and emailed you instead. Please forward this to the pharm project for consideration.
