Unnecessary fair use image, violates WP:NFCC#8. This is supposed to be an encyclopedia article, not an advertisement, and if it were actually necessary to show something like this graphically, it could be done as a free image. B (talk) 16:44, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - I see no reason why this couldn't be replaced with a free image. In fact I don't even think a free image is necessary here. James086Talk 01:32, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Lithuania men national basketball team in 2004.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Pofka (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

non-free image used to show a particular version of the national team. Does not add to reader's understanding enough to pass WP:NFCC#8 and could be replaced by a free image (fails WP:NFCC#1) Peripitus (Talk) 21:58, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • It cannot be replaced with a free image because it is the official team photo of that year. There is no other versions of it captured by anyone else and not LKF-related people would not be able to take it because it is taken in a fans-empty hall and it makes it the UNIQUE HISTORICAL IMAGE. It does adds to the understanding of the article because it is used for the visual identification purpose, which is impossible in words alone. You can tell that your best friend is dark-haired, has blue eyes, plays basketball and lives in a house next to you, but somebody who never seen it won't recognize it. Many of these players does not have free pictures in Wikipedia, so you cannot identify them visually in Wikipedia alone. Though, that is not the main argument. The main argument is that you cannot roll-back time to that period when all of them were standing together during the important competition. -- Pofka (talk) 13:40, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • It cannot be replaced with a free image because such image could not be created now as it was taken during awarding ceremony which took place 10 years ago, unless you have a time machine. Furthermore, the awarding ceremony is historically significant and the visual illustration of it greatly increases the understanding of it and visually illustrates players who won these medals, which is impossible in words alone. You can tell that your best friend is dark-haired, has blue eyes, plays basketball and lives in a house next to you, but somebody who never seen it won't recognize it. Many of these players does not have free pictures in Wikipedia, so you cannot identify them visually in Wikipedia alone. Even thought each of them would have it - you still cannot visually illustrate the awarding ceremony in text. -- Pofka (talk) 13:48, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

non-free image used to show two people met - fails WP:NFCC#8 and is simply decorative. Could be easily replaced with text saying the same thing. Peripitus (Talk) 22:00, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • This picture upload is based on this file as both of them were taken behind closed doors where civilians would not be able to enter. Picture was obviously taken by some of the delegation members, so it is undoubtedly unique. It is also historically significant meeting and taking picture of it now without the time machine would not be possible - irreplaceable. Text will never visually describe historically important event in the way picture does - adds to the understanding of the event and that's why many non-free pictures of important meetings are uploaded to the Wikipedia. -- Pofka (talk) 14:02, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

image is licensed via getty images (see [1]) and so fails WP:NFCC#2 in this context. Peripitus (Talk) 22:03, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is low resolution (original is bigger) and taking free picture is not possible (he already died). Rationale is valid. -- Pofka (talk) 13:09, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Whether WP:NFCC#1 is satisfied or not is irrelevant as the picture violates WP:NFCC#2. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:12, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
      • That makes visually identifying of famous people who recently died impossible because all pictures of them are commercial, though taking of a free picture is also not possible because the person already died. The first and the second rules points obviously contrary to each other with modern people and should be improved somehow. -- Pofka (talk) 14:12, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
        • No, they do not contradict each other. WP:NFCC#1 says that you can use a non-free image if you can find one which doesn't violate the other non-free content criteria, provided that you have made a sufficiently thorough check that free images do not exist. WP:NFCC#2 says that you can't use this specific image, but doesn't rule out the use of other images. That said, if all images which exist violate WP:NFCC#2, then it means that no image currently can be used in the article. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:27, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
          • By saying this you simply confirmed what I said. With such rules valid, illustrating some people is impossible if there is no free picture of them because taking one by yourself is not possible as well. Such articles are condemned to not be visually illustrated. -- Pofka (talk) 09:46, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, Getty images are subject to speedy deletion per WP:CSD#F7. Think about it for a moment - if it were valid to claim "fair use" on a press agency photo, nobody anywhere would ever pay a licensing fee for one again. --B (talk) 22:32, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
