Reason: A high-resolution, beautiful, colour image of the première of a Donizetti opera, from 1835 (and, annoyingly, in WAY better condition than the Massenet posters, which are, like, half a century younger!). Colour is a little basic, but proper colour lithographs were still in development then, and this is great for the time. Plus, it uses what colour it does have very effectively despite the simplicity.

Comment It's a lithographic print. The "grain" is inherent in the printing technique, not a defect. Halftones need to be "grainy" or "screened" in litho printing. --Janke | Talk 16:22, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- Well, Halftone isn't quite the word I'd choose, as that's usually used for a different technique. But, aye. The point of lithography is you put acid on rocks to make pits to hold ink.   - Ehrmmm... not quite. Lithography is planographic, like offset printing. The image is drawn on the stone with fatty media that will hold ink, while the wet stone won't... Any pits only give a "tooth" to the surface, hence the drawing will be "grainy". --Janke | Talk 13:54, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
