- Thanks. I think there's a chance that the copyright notice was intended to add protection to material here, not alert that it came from a copyrighted origin. However, given the possibility otherwise, I've restored back to the last verifiably clean version that does not contain non-neutral text. I've left a note for the IP and the registered editor who is likely to be the same individual. I am watchlisting both talk pages and the article for a time. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:48, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Contributor, who was not at all happy to have the text removed, seems to have left us. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:47, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

- San Ramon, California (history · last edit) the "History" part was inserted in these edits by User:Code3TJ. It is an almost word-by-word copy from here. Unfortunatelly, this was done almost two years ago with lots of newer edits superseeding this copyvio now. PaterMcFly (talk) 16:58, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

- List of New York State Historic Markers in Cortland County, New York (history · last edit) from http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/historicmarkers/ (and then select Cortland county in the dropdown menu). This Cortland County one and a large number of similar New York county articles indexed at List of New York State Historic Markers (this version) have been created by User:Inoysterbay by copying-and-pasting from that New York State website. All the separate county ones should be deleted. The user Inoysterbay should be given some serious warning; he is already aware, by previous discussion about a plaque photo, that text of historic plaques is copyrighted. doncram (talk) 17:30, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Inoysterbay points me to other wikipedia list-articles where there are copies of historic plaque texts, including New Hampshire Historical Markers and List of historical highway markers in Hampshire County, West Virginia (the latter discussed in this AfD ). Offhand, it looks to me that these are in copyright violation as well. To be honest, though, I think i have seen complete texts of historic plaques for buildings included in articles about those buildings. Perhaps it is okay to write out text, as if by a fair use copyright allowance, in an article specifically about the subject of the plaque? But list-articles consisting almost entirely of text of plaques does not seem like fair use to me. What usage is fair and what is not fair? I look forward to some guidance from copyright experts here. doncram (talk) 19:02, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- There was previous plaques deletion discussion in January 2008 at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Archive 6#Plaques deletion which referenced also referenced this commons discussion [1] regarding one plaque that was exempt for a Minnesota state exemption. My understanding from then was that permissions are needed or it is copyright violation, and non-Minnesota plaque photos were deleted. doncram (talk) 06:02, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to agree that these are copyright problems except in states that release their official publications into pd. However, let's seek additional feedback. I'll pose the question at WT:C and see if there are any takers. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:33, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

- Your Choice Live Series 022 (history · last edit) lyrics and liner notes copied from album, editor claims permission has been provided here but its not clear if this satisfies wikipedia's requirements for granted permission. RadioFan (talk) 17:51, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Your Choice Records holds the copyrights and is willing to rewrite the permission note on its webpage. If necessary, please let me know what the permission note should exactly sound like and I will take care of an update that will satisfie wikipedia´s requirements for granted permission. Thank you! - It's almost there. What you need to do is specify licensing terms. It's not enough to say "can be used for Wikipedia", because Wikipedia's license allows it to be reused and/or modified by anyone, anywhere, even commercially. If you're comfortable releasing your material to that extent, then change your licensing information to say: "All artwork and photos on this webpage (as well as lyrics and bandstatements from the inlay sheets of the record covers) are available for modification and reuse under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later and under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribute Share-Alike." But understand, please, that the only page that is licensed for our reuse is [2]. If you want to allow use of other pages within your website, you will either need to list them explicitly there or to broaden your release to "on this website", which covers the whole site. This covers artwork, photos, lyrics & bandstatements but no other text. If you have questions, please let me know. If you want more information, please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:27, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
