To merge an account is to combine the user contributions of two or more accounts into one account. For example, if User A and User B were merged together, all of User A's edits and all of User B's edits would be assigned to the same username. WMF said that the merge tool would be available in June 2015, but it never came to be. Thus, edits are forever chained to the account they were made by, so User A's edits cannot be merged into User B's edits. The one thing we can do is to rename Literaturegeek, and then rename your current username to Literaturegeek, essentially performing an usurpation. --I am k6ka Talk to me! If I simply recreated Literaturegeek as a new username, would all the contributions that were created by Literaturegeek between 2007-2011 (there were thousands upon thousands) show up under the contributions link of the account? I am thinking a temporary fix would be to recreate Literaturegeek, and put a redirect or explanation on the MrADHD user page that MrADHD is an inactive account that will later be merged. Probably what you want is for me to rename "Literaturegeek" to "MrADHD temp", and then rename "MrADHD" to "LiteratureGeek" (taking all your enwiki contributions along with it) and then rename "MrADHD temp" (your commons account) to "MrADHD".
But Actually I think we can ask a Steward to use the local rename tool to achieve a merge.

Ok, hold on a minute. Hold on a minute!! All of my Literaturegeek Wikipedia contributions ARE listed but under this MrADHD account going back many years! I never lost them! When Literaturegeek was simply renamed to MrADHD they just continued to be listed but under MrADHD. Whatever simple rename procedure that was applied in 2012 to change Literaturegeek to MrADHD, can it not simply be repeated but in reverse? And my Wikipedia contributions will still be listed but under Literaturegeek? Or has there been a significant change to how the servers and Wikipedia works now when renaming? Watchlists and user preferences are kept when an account is renamed. And perhaps there's some confusion here, so I'll do my best to clarify. Your username used to be Literaturegeek, until it was renamed to MrADHD, your current username (correct?). Back then, renames weren't global, and only the local account would be renamed (IIRC), which resulted in issues with accounts being detached from global accounts. I don't remember the exact details, since it's been a while ago and I haven't had much interaction with renaming until about a year and a half ago. In July 2014, they introduced the m:Global rename policy and the global renamer user group, which allowed "global renamers" and stewards to rename global accounts; local rename options for bureaucrats were subsequently removed. Thus, renames were now global: if you had 200 edits on the English Wikipedia, and 50 edits on the English Wiktionary, and you requested a global rename, your entire global account would be renamed, as well as any local accounts attached to it, so you'll keep all the edits from the English Wikipedia and Wiktionary. In April of 2015, SUL finalization took place and forced all users to have a global account, eliminating the dilemma of dangling local accounts entirely. What a global account does is reserve a registered username on all wikis so that other users cannot create an account with it, even if that account doesn't exist on the local wiki. For example, if I had never visited Commons, I would not have a local account there. However, if I have a global account, I can still block other users from taking my username on Commons. Thus, the username is considered "taken" even though the local account doesn't exist on Commons. So if someone on Commons wanted my username, they'd still have to go through the usurpation process because I own the global account of the username they want. Thus, we can't simply "reverse" the rename because there's already a global account with the name "Literaturegeek", with a local account on Commons. Even though it lacks a local account on the English Wikipedia, because of the SUL system it is considered to be taken. --I am k6ka Talk to me! If you want to edit on en.wiki as "Literaturegeek", we need your commons "Literaturegeek" account out of the way. So we could rename the commons Literaturegeek (and any attached now-accounts) to something else, and then rename MrADHD to Literaturegeek. Your edits, made as the first Literaturegeek and MrADHD would all then reside at en.wiki:Literaturegeek. That is correct k6cal. I am starting to understand. I don't care much about the wiki commons Literaturegeek account, it only has 5 edits or so so rename, delete or whatever is necessary. It is losing the contribution history associated with the MrADHD account when I rename to Literaturegeek on Wikipedia that worries me. I do not mind my commons edits being under a different name. @K6ka: Yes I would like to usurp Outriggr but I don't understand what happens to the edits under that account--what do they show up as, if not "associated" with the usurped user:Outriggr?

I can confirm that both accounts are "owned" and operated by the same person. Is there any possibility that the accounts can be merged?
