The result of the discussion was: dual merge. – Fayenatic London 16:02, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary 2-article subcategory within one that has 4 articles total. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 22:15, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:53, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: I have a feeling that this will be WP:OCTRIVIA, but otherwise it should be renamed to Category:Fiction about clocks. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 22:10, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Per nom. The articles there aren't "really" about clocks - they're more about ghosts, or criminals, or what have you. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 23:58, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Works set in airports. No prejudice against recreation if it can be populated. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:56, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:NARROWCAT. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 21:31, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Per nom, though this could have really been avoided if people found enough relevant articles to satisfy WP:SMALLCAT. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 00:04, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for now, without objection to recreate the category when more articles can be added. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:38, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:56, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename per WP:NARROWCAT, we never diffuse descent categories by century. Note that after renaming most articles of the 5th-century category should be moved to the Byzantine category, and the three articles in Category:People of Gothic descent can be diffused. The result of the discussion was: merge both. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:56, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Basically one of those WP:NARROWCAT X+Y categories that is largely unnecessary. No need to merge to anywhere else besides this, because the child categories are already in the requisite transport category as well. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:54, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chitral District II[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: split. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 12:20, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Chitral District was split into Upper Chitral District and Lower Chitral District in 2018, so we will need to split. This split will be needed to carry out the outcome of Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2023_October_22#Category:Chitral_District for the main category, Category:Chitral District; the other subcategories, to my understanding, would belong in both Upper and Lower Districts' categories. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 18:36, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 00:58, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Their age at death is not defining. If it is kept, it should be renamed to British people who died as children Mason (talk) 02:31, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. I think that the only content page Olivia Dahl is notable enough to be included in British children (she was already in American children, so I've added her to British children). The result of the discussion was: Rename * Pppery * it has begun... 01:59, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: In line God_in_Jainism#Devas, these beings are generally called deities in English. Deity being a being who is worshipped; which these beings enjoy. While Digambaras detest the worship of these beings, Shwetambaras and some Digambara sects do worship these beings. There are per se not "attendants" Redtigerxyz Talk 18:18, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Johnbod, Padmavati (Jainism), Chakreshvari, Ghantakarna Mahavir, Gomukha etc. which are instrincically Jain (not in Hindu literature) are often called Jain protective or guardian deities. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:40, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but as I'm sure you know, these later additions (mostly blow-ins from Buddhism or Hinduism) are not universally accepted, and should in particular be distinguished from Category:Tirthankaras, who are not exactly deities but much more important and universally accepted. Hence my proposal. I see by the way that this category isn't even in Category:God in Jainism, unlike the Tirthankaras. Johnbod (talk) 23:03, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Johnbod, Please refer Jainism#Rituals_and_worship and Deity#Jainism - deities are specifically referred. Terapanthi Digambaras limit their worship to tirthankaras; however other major sect of Shwetambaras and some Digambara sects do worship them. Wiley p.74 Deva (records two kinds of God - Tirthankaras - the highest and the rest), p. 237 Yaksa - the word deities is used. The category was removed [1]. Cort pp. 61, 91-94 talks of the liberated gods (Jinas or Tirthanakaras) that Jains worship for moksha and unliberated gods like Padmavati, Ghantakarna Mahavir worshipped for wordly purposes. Mishra, Susan Verma; Ray, Himanshu Prabha (2016), The Archaeology of Sacred Spaces: The temple in western India, 2nd century BCE–8th century CE pp.140-7 uses "gods", "goddesses". This should be part of Category:God in Jainism. We cannot be biased to Terapanthi Digambara POV. See Digambara#Sub-sects and Śvētāmbara#History regarding worship of deities, gods, goddesses. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:38, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just delete, all three articles are still in an occupation category from the Principality of Neuchâtel. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:49, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry, but there is no way I can compel with the instruction of not modifying this much too quick decision, reached after only a few days and only one (yes one) dismissive « just delete »)
  • Strongly oppose: the Principality of Neuchâtel is a former country, like the Republic of Venice, the Republic of Geneva, or the Soviet Union. It lasted for a least 500 years, and this type of categories, such as Category:Bankers from the Principality of Neuchâtel, Category:Philanthropists from the Principality of Neuchâtel, Category:Merchants from the Principality of Neuchâtel, or Category:Geographers from the Principality of Neuchâtel, are completely justified, even if they now contain only a few entries: there is a clear potential of growth in each of them. --Sapphorain (talk) 21:44, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sapphorain can you speak to why the intersection for Protestants is defining in this pricinpality? Mason (talk) 19:29, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I see no evidence that this is a defining intersection. (t · c) buidhe 04:38, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, not a defining intersection. Note that Wikipedia categories are organized along simultaneous geographic and historic logics. That means it is sometimes tempting, however counter-productive, to split every topic into every possible intersection of geography and history. Neuchâtel was a state of the Holy Roman Empire, and an ally of Swiss cantons, before joining the confederation. So it is not like Venice or the Soviet Union, which were independent countries not part of any wider empire. Neuchâtel topics are part of the history of Switzerland, and often the best solution for navigation help is to place content in the appropriate Swiss category, in addition to a high-level e.g. Category:People from Neuchâtel. The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge all to Category:People from Neuchâtel. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 13:48, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale:small underpopulated category that I don't think is defining at the intersection. not need for regime to intersect with occupation and nationality. Should be merged to parent category (Swiss fooians) or (if keep, rename to Fooians from Neuchâtel per parent Category:People from Neuchâtel) Mason (talk) 00:44, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • The principality was not part of Switzerland (yet) so "Swiss" may be off. Presumably it still belonged to the Holy Roman Empire. See Canton of Neuchâtel. Merge somehow because these categories have mainly been set up for a single article. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:51, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that worst case, we can manually merge to the best fitting occupational parent.Mason (talk) 19:26, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: Just like the Republic of Venice, the Republic of Geneva or the Soviet Union, the Principality of Neuchâtel is a former country. It lasted for a least 500 years, officially as a principality from 1504 to 1815 (and even 1865 as the King of Prussia wouldn’t give it up…). This type of categories is perfectly justified. First because there is clear potential of growth due to the very long period of time they cover. Second because merging them with Swiss categories would introduce an unnecessary anachronism (and merging them with plain Neuchâtel categories would do exactly the same, as these are subcategories of Swiss categories). --Sapphorain (talk) 09:24, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be helpful if you could speak to why the "intersection" is defining for each occupation. (Small cat as been depreciated because growth is really hard to evaluate). Mason (talk) 19:25, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Sorry, I am probably dense. I don't understand your question.--Sapphorain (talk) 20:57, 19 November 2023 (UTC)... I think I get it: you mean the intersection of the two categories in which these ones are proposed to be merged? The problem is that the intersection of "People of Neuchâtel" and of "Swiss Suchandsuch" does not contain "Suchandsuch from the Principality of Neuchâtel" simply because the Principality of Neuchâtel was not Swiss.--Sapphorain (talk) 09:19, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I think I understand the disconnect. So the question isn't whether People of Neuchâtel is worthwhile, but what is the added value of Explorers combined with people from the Principality of Neuchâtel is worthwhile. In other words, what makes Explorers from Neuchâtel meaningful, compared to just having two separate categories? Mason (talk) 12:40, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The added value would be, for a citizen of the Principality of Neuchâtel who was an explorer, of describing him or her with one very precise and correct category, versus (if the present proposition is followed) two categories, one very approximative and one quite false. If "Explorers from the Principality of Neuchâtel" is suppressed, then according to the present proposition, this individual would be categorized by "People from Neuchâtel" (approximative) and "Swiss Explorers" (false).--Sapphorain (talk) 21:29, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
... One other solution could be to merge all these categories, which already contain 5 people altogether, in one category "People from the Principality of Neuchâtel". This new category would also contain an appreciable number of other people, as for instance the horologists Ferdinand Berthoud, Abraham-Louis Breguet, and Abraham-Louis Perrelet, the lawyer Emer de Vattel, and the pastor Jean-Frederic Osterwald. As well as the politician and scientist Jean-Paul Marat. --Sapphorain (talk) 17:17, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for Now to Category:People from Neuchâtel per WP:NARROWCAT, but with no objection to recreation if any of the category's fulfill their growth potential and ever reach 5 or so articles. (Open to a dual merge as well, if an appropriate target can be found given the location's complicated history.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 12:23, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to Category:People from Neuchâtel per the reasoning at #Protestants from the Principality of Neuchâtel. Individual articles may be added manually to either Swiss or German occupational category if they apply. Place Clichy (talk) 23:50, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SHAREDNAME and WP:DNWAUC
"Kansas City Cowboys" is a disambiguation page for 6 different sporting teams that all share the same name, which is textbook WP:SHAREDNAME but, based on the category header, I think this was intended as a disambiguation page anyway. I created individual categories for 2 of the teams (1, 2) but the other 4 didn't have enough content yet. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:32, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:PERFCAT and WP:NONDEFINING
These categories consist almost entirely of general interest TV stations that play sitcoms, drama, news, movies and--yes--at least one season worth of games for a soccer team. Articles like KMYU, WRDQ and KMCI-TV do tend to mention the teams in passing but it would create category clutter if we started categorized TV stations by each show they air. The category contents are already largely listified right here for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:32, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
