Category:European LGBT rights case law[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:36, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category confuses European Court of Justice with European Court of Human Rights. The courts have different jurisdictions (EU vs. Council of Europe) and apply different law (EU law vs. European Convention on Human Rights.) I created a separate category for ECHR cases and copied the two CJEU cases to parent cats as appropriate, so this category can and should be deleted. • Delete. I confirm that all current members are in appropriate LGBT rights case law categories, so no merge is needed. – Fayenatic London 22:20, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename all. (non-admin closure)Mikehawk10 (talk) 00:22, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename for three reasons: more accurate, WP:C2C per Category:Dukes of Bavaria and Category:Prince-electors of Bavaria, and per precedent in this previous discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename all per nom and per precedent. This is similar to the Dukes of Württemberg one below and same principle applies. No Great Shaker (talk) 10:38, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename all per nom Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:49, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: upmerge to all three parents. plicit 01:27, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SUBJECTIVECAT. Categories labeling United States politicians as liberal or conservative have been repeatedly deleted. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 20:29, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the discussion was: withdrawn (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 21:01, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Association football and soccer are the same thing, Soccer is the more established category and is the more common name in the US Some2Guy (talk) 17:42, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: split to Category:Dukes of Württemberg (ruling) and Category:Dukes of Württemberg (titular). plicit 01:27, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: In the 15th to 18th century the duke was the ruler of Württemberg, in the 19th century duke of Württemberg became a title for family members of the monarch of Württemberg. One category belongs in the rulers tree, the other category belongs in the nobility tree. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:11, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Conservative Party of Canada candidates in the 2004 Canadian federal election[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Proposals to delete the target categories should be discussed in a separate nomination. plicit 01:27, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Several past CFD's on similar categories for other political parties (e.g. 1, 2, 3) established a consensus that it is not desirable to categorize election candidates this specifically. Firstly, we don't even categorize sitting MPs for each individual session of Parliament they sat in, and there's no compelling reason to categorize non-winning candidates more specifically and narrowly than MPs. Secondly, unelected candidates for political office aren't notable for that at all, so a person will only have an article to file in any of these categories if they had preexisting notability for other reasons independently of a political candidacy (e.g. having previously served as a provincial MLA or mayor of a major city), meaning that they aren't defined by each individual election they may have run in and lost. Thirdly, since people often run for office more than just once, this results in significant category bloat since each individual candidacy occasions another new category. Simply put, candidacy isn't significant enough to warrant subcategorizing them this granularly. (And yes, similar categories do still exist for some other political parties as well — but getting rid of them is an extended process, because there are too many to just batch them all together in one go.) Bearcat (talk) 15:58, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per nom, if only because even Canadian MPs are not categorized like this. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:03, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Certainly merge, rather than keep, BUT should we have these categories at all? Candidates who are elected should be in a MP category for each Parliament (which is what is done with UK MPs). Those candidates not elected are by definition of WP:POLITICIAN NN (unless notable for other reasons) and should not have a category at all: thus delete? The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:51, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: No need to dual merge as the only article is already in the appropriate subcategory. User:Namiba 12:05, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. plicit 01:27, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category:Magic word templates says: This category contains templates that mimic magic words., Category:Wikipedia magic word templates says Templates that behave in a similar fashion to the MediaWiki variables used in Wikipedia., which is basically the same. See WP:MAGICWORD and WP:VAR. —andrybak (talk) 07:16, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: New editor has set up personal categories for themselves. User categories are typically to group editors together based on commonalities, editing philosophy, etc., not for each editor to set up their own set of categories for themselves. Liz Read!
