  • Merge while "Jain studies" are clearly a dinstict thing from Jainism, just as an religious studies field where a subject is approached primarily from a socialogical perspective is distinct from the actual practice of that religion as a set of religious beliefs, Since this at the present acts only to hold the category Category:Scholars of Jainism, there is no real reason to have this as a seperate category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:30, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Totally Against: You don't change a whole category for ONE article (Bioclimatology) as biometeorology is an article about meteorology. It is more logical to keep Category:Branches of meteorology and transfer any climatological articles to Category:Branches of climatology, and then put those two categories as sub-categories of "Category:Branches of atmospheric sciences". There are other instances, such as space weather/space climate. If we do as you say, we'd end up with two small sibling categories, Category:Branches of climatology and Category:Branches of meteorology. Most importantly, we'd not avoid creating the parent Category:Branches of atmospheric sciences here proposed. fgnievinski (talk) 07:09, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Procedural Comment @Pierre cb: I can't recall keeping interwiki links every having been a justification to keep a category name in CFD before but I appreciate your new perspective. We have a process for category redirects (WP:R#CATEGORY) that could potentially maintain the link after a rename if if there was consensus to do so but would have to automatically point to a single target cat in WP:HOTCAT. - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:09, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
N.B. I don't want to avoid creating Category:Branches of atmospheric sciences (read carefully my comment), I am just pointing to a more logical way to create a category tree of Atmospheric sciences specialties which is a set of different branches (atmospheric physics and chemistry, meteorology, climatology) that can have their own categories if needed under that umbrella.
