Nominator's rationale: rename, these are works about Plato's philosophy rather than about Plato as a person. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:09, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Members of la Société entomologique de France[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete Category:Members of la Société entomologique de France; no consensus to delete Category:Presidents of la Société entomologique de France, so rename it. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:25, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: No reason to use "la" from French instead of "the", especially when the Société entomologique de France page uses "The" in the lead. I would have nominated these categories for speedy renaming, but I wasn't sure what critera they would fall under in this case. Monster Iestyn (talk) 18:22, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Members/Rename Presidents This is a membership organization not a learned society with a strict limit on member where simply being asked to join is defining which goes against WP:OCASSOC. (The online application asks for two references from existing members and you have to answer how many legs an insect has as a spam filter, so they don't take themselves too seriously.) For the Presidents, we should use English category names outside of the formal names, even if it feels a little jarring. - RevelationDirect (talk) 09:13, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both but perhaps listify the Presidents, but there is already a list up to 1986, with a lot of redlinks. Membership of a society is generally not defining. The entry requirement of needing two proposers does not change that. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:21, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both, articles are already in Category:French entomologists. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:04, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Members/Rename Presidents per RevelationDirect|. --Just N. (talk) 16:33, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: As per WP:C2C: consistency with most categories with the same name (see American musical groups by state and Musical groups by state in Germany). Synthwave.94 (talk) 14:56, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:21, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category presently points to a disambiguation page. There is only one entry in the category, so serves no navigational help. Richhoncho (talk) 19:59, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oculi. In which case do you suggest a renaming of category as it fails C2D? FWIW, I didn't nominate the other 2 because there is no confusion in the nomenclature. --Richhoncho (talk) 08:21, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe John Allen (US drummer) per [1]? Oculi (talk) 11:34, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. No clarity at all in the above comments. --Just N. (talk) 14:40, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Transylvanian Romanians[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:People from Transylvania. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:08, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Three reasons to delete:
  • 1) Not a defining characteristic. It’s like “Midwesterners” or “Geordies”.
  • 2) Already covered by multiple other, more relevant categories, like the subcategories or Category:People from Transylvania or Category:Romanian Austro-Hungarians.
  • 3) Too vague as to what constitutes a “Transylvanian Romanian”. Is it only ethnic Romanians, or also other nationalities? Only pre-1918 or -1867, or also modern people? What if a subject was born outside Transylvania to parents from there, or vice versa? What if only one parent was from Transylvania, or what if the subject moved there as an adult? Etc. — Biruitorul Talk 03:53, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge/diffuse to Category:People from Transylvania, the scope of the two categories are not distinct enough. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:11, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge/diffuse per Marco. Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:20, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment -- Transylvania was formerly part of Hungary, but transferred to Romania after WWI. The region retains a substantial Hungarian-speaking population. The rationale that this is non-defining is wrong. The category is certainly unsatisfactory, but deleting it out of hand is liable to leave articles orphaned. Instead we need to agree what the target categories for a split should be; then those categories need to be created and added to each article. Only when that has been done should deletion be implemented. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:51, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge/diffuse to Category:People from Transylvania. Maybe one could argue the case for category styled "Romanians in the Principality of Transylvania", otherwise the purpose is well served by what we already have around. Dahn (talk) 04:15, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Recipients of the Order of the African Star[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:19, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OVERLAPCAT and WP:OCAWARD)
The Order of the African Star was intended as a colonial award for service in the Belgian Congo. However 6 of the articles are for ruling monarchs who are already under Category:Belgian monarchs and automatically received the award like Albert II of Belgium, Baudouin of Belgium, and Leopold III of Belgium. Just 3 of the articles are for soldiers who served in the Congo but they just mention the award in passing and don't treat it as defining: Kristian Løken, Armand Huyghé, and Paul Costermans. (Inexplicably, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin also received this medal.) There wasn't a list so I created one right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:29, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:18, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:PERFCAT, WP:OVERLAPCAT & WP:OCAWARD)
When foreign heads of states, military leaders or performing artists visited the Hungarian People's Republic, the Order of the Flag of the Republic of Hungary was given out as souvenir. Leonid Brezhnev of the Soviet Union, Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal of Mongolia, and Henryk Jabłoński of Poland are not remotely defined by this award. There are also a lot of Soviet cosmonauts in the category like Yuri Gagarin, Boris Volynov, Vladimir Dzhanibekov but they are already under Category:Soviet cosmonauts. (The only Hungarian in this category is Rabi László Salgó who is not remotely defined by the award.) There wasn't a list so I created one right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:29, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
