Nominator's rationale: Series X is only one console within the line Most Horizontal Primate (talk) 23:55, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SMALLCAT only applies to categories with "no potential for growth". I doubt that Halo Infinite and Watch Dogs: Legion will be the only 4th generation Xbox games ever released. Most Horizontal Primate (talk) 11:25, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle: I agree with Primate on this one; "no potential for growth" is a very important distinction here. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 23:21, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – since it's not appropriate to call the new Xbox platform by the name of one of its consoles, and the only other alternative offered by other editors – "Xbox (2020 console)" – calls the new platform a "console" instead of a platform, "Xbox (4th generation)" seems like the best alternative at this point in time. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 23:21, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Microsoft has made it clear that its 4th gen Xbox line will be more than just the Xbox Series X, and there's presently no indication that there will be titles unique to this version (enhanced, perhaps but that's a different category like Category:Xbox One X enhanced games. Title seems appropriate for what we know at this time. --Masem (t) 02:29, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 03:38, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Gives the impression that these institutions are defunct. Some are, but some have just altered their status. The sub-categories dont give the same impression, so I'm not proposing to delete them. There are separate subcategories for defunct ones. Rathfelder (talk) 19:25, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - the nom is correct. There are several other categories beginning Former universities and colleges which should perhaps be considered (defunct being the usual term). Oculi (talk) 20:25, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've nominated the Ukrainian ones for speedy renaming, as they all seem to be defunct. Rathfelder (talk) 22:14, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 03:41, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Two isolated "Musicals by director" categories, not connected to any comprehensive scheme of categorizing musicals for this. Unlike films, the problem with musicals is that they can have literally hundreds or thousands of new productions, each with a different director -- thus leading to extreme category bloat if we scaled this out to categorize each musical for everybody who had ever directed a production of it. These are the only two "musicals directed by [Person]" categories that exist at all, and by the same token there are no "plays directed by [Person]" for directors of non-musical plays either. So it's basically a WP:PERFCAT, not a useful or WP:DEFINING point of categorization for musicals. Bearcat (talk) 15:57, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - And furthermore, there are a goodly number of other such categories (1 article + 1 subcat) for publishing companies that should also be deleted. I came across at least half a dozen of them earier today. Anomalous+0 (talk) 10:32, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fictional beaches[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete Category:Fictional beaches, no consensus for Category:Beaches in fiction. MER-C 03:44, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Single item category TTN (talk) 20:59, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Meanwhile I agree the second category does not need to be deleted. I would propose though to rename it to Category:Fiction about beaches in order to encourage that only content in which a beach is a defining characteristic is added to the category. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:43, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both - Both categories have beaches as the primary subject. They can only be used if the article is specifically about a beach, not on articles about a TV show or a movie or a book. If you want to use them on works of fiction, then you would use something like "fiction works set on a beach" or more specific categories like "Television series set on a beach", "films set on a beach" etc. Otherwise, there aren't enough beaches in fiction notable enough for their own articles where these categories would apply.Starforce13 21:25, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nominator. Too few articles to deserve a separate category. JIP | Talk 11:13, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Transformers robot characters; remains virtually uncontested after 7 weeks (as was the linked debate). MER-C 10:08, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Something like 25 remaining characters in the series. It previously had a maze like structure of some 400+ characters. After removing the redirects, all remaining characters fit comfortably into the primary parent category. This in-universe designation isn't particularly useful for the general reader, especially when most characters have 5+ variations listed on their pages. TTN (talk) 21:13, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Transformers automobiles[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Transformers robot characters; remains virtually uncontested after 7 weeks (as was the linked debate). MER-C 10:08, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is an outdated category from when the series had 400+ articles. It's now pointless for organization. The characters are all covered in another category structure. I guess they could maybe be upmerged to Fictional cars, but I feel like they don't really belong. TTN (talk) 21:00, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • If not kept, merge to Category:Transformers robot characters. That is, I can't see a reason right now why the articles should not stay in the Transformers hierarchy. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:05, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • The problem that this category was created to solve was that Category:Fictional cars had a reasonable number of other entries, about 40, along with about 40 bazillion Transformers. Those were separated out so it wouldn't look like "Transformers + everything else". Transformers robots won't be tolerated as a subcategory of fictional cars, since it includes many other kinds of fictional vehicles besides cars. So if these are upmerged back then the fictional cars would still be almost 1/3 transformers cars, and 2/3 all other fictional cars. Is that what we want? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:35, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • Fictional cars could just be added to Category:Transformers characters. It technically doesn't apply to every character, but it seems like a majority of remaining articles are present in this category. TTN (talk) 21:37, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Censorship in the Republic of Ireland[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge Category:Censorship in Ireland to Category:Censorship in the Republic of Ireland. MER-C 03:40, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: All the contents of both categories are about the Republic. The policy of running two sets of categories, one called Ireland and the other the Republic of Ireland does not work. Rathfelder (talk) 20:53, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • If that is the case, they should be nominated for rename. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:25, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep pending a wider discussion. A proposal to change a long standing convention (the double categories for both the RoI and the island) should only have come to this forum having previously obtained wide agreement in the appropriate primary project, namely Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland. Whilst that project has become somewhat moribund of late, nevertheless, it is still on the watchlist of many interested parties. Laurel Lodged (talk) 22:31, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am not proposing widespread changes, and I dont have a solution, but I am pointing out that the policy which has been agreed doesnt work. This is just one example, but there are many categories with 2 versions, both of which only have entries relating to the Republic. There are clearly not going to be any articles relating to the situation since 1922 which relate to censorship across the island, and as far as I can see only Category:People convicted of blasphemy in Ireland relates to the situation before then. Rathfelder (talk) 20:48, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • The articles added dont fit. The Category notes say "This category is for biographical articles". Rathfelder (talk) 09:34, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is about people by occupation. I have moved the two three articles about commissions to Category:Regulation. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:11, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Can be split, but without the need to discuss that here at CfD. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:57, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • While I am scrolling through the articles, I find two alternatives at least as relevant: Alternative A: delete, as "gambling regulator" is barely defining for these individuals, Alternative B: rename and re-scope to Category:Chairs of state casino control commissions which is the most defining characteristic if anything at all. • Keep; with the continuing expansion of both gambling and the number of notable people regulating it, this category should be growing. As the number of articles grow a I would support a split by geographical region. Accurizer (talk) 00:39, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
