William Lambie (footballer)[edit]

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

The article doesn't seem notable as there is barely any sources, and information that doesn't seem notable or truly correct, and the main information of the article resembles much of William Lambie, the article is also an orphan

  • Delete, 1 football game in the early 1900s does not a Wikipedia article make. Geschichte (talk) 11:02, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete unless more information can be provided. Listing someone as playing once for one team, and an unknown number of times for another team is no benefit to a reader. And doesn't look to pass WP:GNG, unless substantial offline sources could be found, which I imagine is unlikely if he played 1 game. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:21, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to List of Burnley F.C. players or similar. GiantSnowman 11:32, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • That lists appears to be for players with 100+ appearances. There's also one for 50-99 appearances, but not one for players with fewer than 50 appearances. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:44, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
bizarre there isn't one for 0-49, most other clubs have them! GiantSnowman 21:08, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

*Merge to William Lambie and delete per Piecesofuk findings. Pinging, @GiantSnowman:, @Geschichte:, @Joseph2302: for reconsideration of new findings. Govvy (talk) 19:38, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge as suggested following fresh research. GiantSnowman 21:08, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per the new info that they seem to be the same person. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:09, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. The newspapers (and the club) thought they were getting the Scotland player, but they weren't. The English National Football Archive (paywalled site) has this note on his page: Burnley were duped into registering an imposter claiming to be William Lambie, the former Queen`s Park, Ardwick and Scotland player, never having seen him play before his League debut. As soon as that started it was clear that he was not that player. He left the field a few minutes into the second half, and was immediately released. He has been called "William Lambie" here as his correct identity has not been discovered.
  • I'd suggest adding a small section to William Lambie, and creating a redirect William Lambie (Burnley footballer) that links to it.
  • Pinging for further re-consideration: @Geschichte, Joseph2302, GiantSnowman, Govvy, Nehme1499, and Piecesofuk:. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:36, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Curiouser and curiouser - right, delete (and that's my final answer) GiantSnowman 10:01, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete in light of Struway2 new information but I support adding the information about the imposter to William Lambie's article with the source from the The English National Football Archive. Alvaldi (talk) 10:24, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete with the imposter note as per the above. Please don't find any more new, conflicting information that forced me to revote again ;) Joseph2302 (talk) 11:30, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and add note per above, very curiously funny and interesting findings over this AfD. Govvy (talk) 17:49, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per thorough research above Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 20:27, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - for reasons outlined above, but well done on the research to clear this up which hopefully can be worked into the "real" William Lambie's article at some point. Dunarc (talk) 20:36, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
