I looked for some sources and the added source is all I found. The rest is wikipedia, likely some of its derivatives and weather reports. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 21:55, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment, as per WP:NGEO, populated, legally recognized places are typically presumed to be notable, even if their population is very low. Dan arndt (talk) 01:48, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this is good. I'd agree on that, but I couldn't find anything mentioning a population. Maybe it's a bay, a mountain? What do we know, can we source? Paradise Chronicle (talk) 02:35, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok in the foreword the abbreviations are explained and PPL shall translate into populated place. It's on page I, the first page. But I still can't find out how many people live there. And if a stub creator finds out that only this source is enough, we will have to expect a new wave of stubs.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 02:44, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What Dan says is true, but GNIS is not reliable, per WP:GEOLAND, for the designation as a populated place. The same applies to its predecessors. This appears on Google Maps, but I don't think that can be regarded as reliable - it probably uses GNIS as a source. Phil Bridger (talk) 09:49, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Link to the RfC for the GNIS where the close is generally reliable for place names and coordinates but for generally unreliable and not satisfactory for legal recognition per WP:Geoland. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 13:03, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Markussep gave me this source on the census of 2012 in the Sinhala language. It looks good, with graphics and maps, but I can't read it, but maybe someone else can.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 20:48, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comment:I received a better one in the English language now from Chanaka L and as to the info there, Vanchyiankulam exists and has a population of 511, but Vanchyinkulam Mavilankeni or something similar was not found to be described by me. • Delete - No reliable sources for the purposes of passing WP:GEOLAND, nor can I find any myself. I say this with some reluctance, since Wikipedia's systematic bias may lead us to miss existing sources (eg. offline or non-English sources); however, without reliable sources we cannot even verify that this is (or once was) a legally recognised populated settlement, so deletion is the only option. • Keep. A google map search shows there are two churches in the area. It seems like it's little more than a hamlet. Bearian (talk) 18:14, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:GOOGLEMAPS other sources should be preferred for boundaries etc. if available. We have an official source where Mavilakeni is not mentioned. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 18:47, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to Vanchiyankulam - It's confusing as there are conflicting sources. Google Maps and the US Gazetteer have both Vanchiyankulam and Vanchiyankulam Mavilankeni down as separate villages/populated places. The Village List website [1] doesn't, but does have Mallikainaddy associated with the GND Vanchiyankulam. Mallikannaddi is also listed as a populated place in the Gazetteer, page 193, with the same co-ordinates as Vanchiyankulam. The Village List website states it's the "Creation of IT Unit (Home Affairs Division)- State Ministry of Internal Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management", so assuming it's official, it seems better to go with that, but retain this article's page history in a redirect.
