Doesn't meet WP:GNG/WP:NBIO/WP:NCHESS. For those not in the know, National Master is a relatively low title whose standards vary by country but are never above a reasonably skilled amateur level. The article also has a non-neutral tone. A WP:BEFORE search shows no results other than copies of the Wikipedia article (which has been around for a while) and listings at chess databases and specialist websites which only document the existence of the player. — Bilorv (talk) 01:14, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Meets NCHESS – he was a two-time Ecuadorian champion. He also played for Ecuador twice at the Chess Olympiad. More importantly, meets GNG, based on the newspaper sources already given in the article. I have added another one for his 1968 Ecuadorian championship. Note that the citations to El Tiempo are verifiable as it is one of the papers digitized on Google Newspapers. Google Newspapers has 20 hits in total for Trotzky Yepez from 1965–1975 newspapers in Colombia and Costa Rica, i.e., not even his home country, and unable to cover his later achievements. Yes, not a particularly strong player (although the one Ecuadorian source I found and linked to calls him "one of Quito's greatest chess players"), and the article can definitely use cleanup; but the player's notability has been demonstrated regardless. Ecuadorian chess is extremely poorly documented in online sources, but that is not the fault of Yepez. Cobblet (talk) 14:16, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
