Delete per nom; I don't see substantial coverage, just coverage of the fire and some one-paragraph mentions in local food directories. power~enwiki (π, ν) 20:39, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Delete. The claim of being "the first X in Y" does not guarantee notability, and the lack of coverage aside from basic restaurant coverage and about the fire suggests this is not an encyclopedic topic. --Kinu ^t/_c 06:56, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Keep - There is more coverage out there; it just takes a bit of work to find it.
- "Support Local: Get to know Mai's Restaurant" - Not a huge mention, but does include a few details.
- "What They’re Doing to Mai’s Restaurant in Midtown" - Brief discussion of the renovations.
- "Mai's is better than ever" - This is significant coverage in the form of a profile in the Houston Chronicle.
- "Phin Nguyen, founder of Mai's Restaurant, has died" - Article about founder's death. Short, but indicates the subject is notable enough to merit coverage.
- "Anthony Bourdain's history with Houston" - Not the primary topic, but does include half a dozen paragraphs of coverage, including the fact that Mai's was Anthony Bourdain's favorite restaurant in Houston. He said it has some of, if not the best, Vietnamese food in the country. He's clearly a reliable source on the topic of food.
- America's Changing Neighborhoods: An Exploration of Diversity through Places - A couple pages of coverage in this book.
All of this combined, plus the existing sources, passes the threshold of WP:GNG: there is significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. —Torchiest ^talk_edits 20:10, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
