List that is better off as a category, or a spliting similar to List of Major League Baseball players (A), as every player will retire eventually Delete Secret account 00:34, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete To start with nobody is notable as a retired football player. They are notable players who happen to now be retired. There are some other issues too, like WP is not a directory and the fact that the list will be too long to be useful. Better lists of notable players from each team (and/or position) and categories for all players. Kitfoxxe (talk) 02:17, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Note: I seriously disagree with both the premise of the article and with the AfD nominator. The articles, lists, and categories should be about notable players, retired or not. No need to put retired players in distinct list or category. Kitfoxxe (talk) 02:27, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete list would be way too long as classification is incredibly broad. If anything, it should be a category. Additionally, upkeep would be cumbersome as many players retire every year. Also, some come back from retirement or otherwise remain active in the sport. What if someone retires from the NFL and goes to the CFL or Arena Football? What about defunct professional leagues or regional professional leagues? Clever page with lots of work so far, but in this case I find it to be a burden to Wikipedia.--Paul McDonald (talk) 15:42, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
