This suffers from the same problem as so many of the other Smash Bros. focused character articles: all the reception is just lists, or barely saying anything. A before didn't turn up much either, other than some bits of dev info about his name post-Smash Bros. release. The most there is is stuff like this Smash Bros. profile on Shacknews, but they did these for every character and there's not any commentary to take from it.

Merge per nom. There is simply not much that shows that K. Rool is a notable character. He is not on the same level as, say, Bowser. It would be best for this article to be merged. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 13:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What would the target of the redirect if merged? The nom only mentions Smash Bros, which is a bit part of his current usage, but he was named in, and is also often discussed about also, in the Donkey Kong Country series. Looking through newspapers.com and other sources of reviews, nearly all of the mention Rool. There some (based on my sense of their current reliability) of articles about Rool in sources that may be seen as marginally contributing to notability reliable articles like https://www.thegamer.com/theory-king-k-rool-friends-donkey-kong-super-smash-bros-ultimate-joker/, https://www.cbr.com/donkey-kong-country-king-k-rool-name/, https://screenrant.com/super-mario-movie-donkey-kong-spinoff-villain-setup/, and https://www.destructoid.com/donkey-kong-countrys-king-k-rool-was-almost-more-evil-looking/. Given the fact there are multiple potential redirects and we have a lot of reliable sources talking about KKR at varying levels of detail, I think making sure to trim any cruft from this article but it's a decent entry point for the character. KKR is no Bowser for sure, but i think there's a pretty plausible case for keeping the article. Skynxnex (talk) 19:32, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Skynxnex I'm down with using Valnet editorials when they say something useful, but those three are either just mentioning a trivia bit or fan theory, and not offering any discussion on the character. The destructoid article actually says something, but even then it's a small sentence at most you can take from it. As for where to put it if merged, there's List of Donkey Kong characters#King K.
