  • Redirect to USS Ahrens (DE-575), the ship named after him. He was a hero but is not otherwise notable and brief biographical information is best included in the ship article. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 08:04, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Subject seems to be at least semi-famous for his last words "I guess they didn't know i was a marine", which is even listed at WikiQuote. I am wondering how much coverage this received in newspapers around the time of the subject's death or since, and whether a subject can be notable due to a well-circulated quote anyway (perhaps WP:ONEEVENT shuts that down?). My cursory searches haven't turned up anything I feel is strong enough to go by. I lean to Cullen328's position if nothing else turns up. Stevie is the man! • Comment - I like Cullen328's idea. John from Idegon (talk) 17:13, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep A search on newspaper.com reveals that the news of his death made the front page news in papers in Ohio and Kentucky like the Cincinnati Enquirer in October 1942. The subsequent award of the silver star in 1943 was also reported. He seems to be of continuing interest eg. [1] [2] There was also a great deal of reportage in newspapers on 6 August 1967 - the 25th anniversary of the battle. The article doesn't get a lot of page views, but it received nearly 20,000 in one day in 2014 due to a Reddit thread. His article receives more page views that of the USS Ahrens (DE-575). So readers are more interested in him than the ship. Our Battle of Tulagi and Gavutu–Tanambogo article links to it. Seems that lots of books refer to him. • Weak Keep. It didn't dawn on me to look at books (after not seeing much news coverage), but indeed his particular war story keeps popping up, like here, here and here. And his somewhat famous quote appears here, here and here. Seems WP:ONEEVENTish but this individual's war actions and dying words each seem to have their own reverberation. Stevie is the man! • Weak Keep - I agree with Stevietheman. The story of the individual's involvement in Guadalcanal, death, and last words seems to have been the subject of sustained coverage. It seems that the best article to cover that has this title. Moving it to The death of Edward H. Arhens or something like that doesn't seem correct. Merging/redirecting to USS Ahrens is a better second choice, especially given the coverage of the individual on the boat's DANFS page, but would really be combining two articles about different things, which isn't really necessary or helpful. • Redirect - Per Cullen.--Catlemur (talk) 23:14, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - What's the problem this is supposed to solve? Is Wikipedia running out of pages? —WWoods (talk) 00:29, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Wwoods: Per WP:NOTPAPER, "there is an important distinction between what can be done, and what should be done". Had you been more thorough in writing this article it might not have been nominated for deletion as WP:REALPROBLEM describes. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:44, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - seems to pass WP:GNG per the links / sources listed above by other editors. Anotherclown (talk) 05:12, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Still receiving coverage in WW2 history books, so it seems to have sustained coverage. While his last exploits, final words, and death is what he is notable for, i think the article title should be simply his name, rather than The Death of Edward Ahrens. Can anyone find his Navy Cross citation?
Clegs has added it to the article. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:55, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
