Minimally sourced WP:BLP of a person notable only as former leader of a provincial-level political party without legislative representation. As always, this is not an "inherent" notability freebie that guarantees an article regardless of sourcing issues -- the notability test for a person in this situation hinges on the amount of media coverage he did or didn't receive to establish the significance of his leadership, not just on documenting the start and end dates of his leadership stint -- but the only source here is just verifying that he failed to win a legislative seat in a by-election, not anything noteworthy about his leadership. In addition, the article contains the laughable claim that he "plans to run for prime minister in 2024", without actually doing any of (a) citing a source to verify that he's ever said any such thing, (b) explaining how he thinks he's going to pull that off in a Westminster-system election without winning the leadership of a federal political party first, or (c) proving the (certainly possible but far from guaranteed) claim that there's going to even be an election in 2024 at all. There's simply nothing here that's "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from having to have much, much better sourcing than this. Bearcat (talk) 18:26, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Keep. The main premise of the AFD is wrong. The party that David Karwacki was leading did have legislative representation during his leadership. He was leader since 2001, during that time the Saskatchewan Liberals had one MLA, Jack Hillson. As for the 2024 claim, that just may be simple vandalism. --CountHacker (talk) 19:54, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Even if the party had one MLA during a small portion of his leadership (but not for the bulk of it), that still isn't a notability freebie for him if he wasn't personally the MLA. Bearcat (talk) 13:58, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I searched the Canadian Newsstream database on ProQuest and found 2,689 results. Most of the results are just mentions in passing or WP:ROUTINE coverage of the 2003 or 2007 Saskatchewan election. However, many results cover his Sask. Liberal Party leadership or profile his life. This includes his participation in the 2007 leadership debates, his threats of expelling two MLAs of the Sask. Liberals, and how the Sask Liberals did not elect any MLAs during the 2003 or 2007 elections while he was the leader. Some articles that support this are: 'I'll always be a Liberal'; Karwacki has no plans of stepping down; blames election loss on 'polarization' from The StarPhoenix, [1] from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, [2] from CBC, Liberals and Karwacki shut out again from Moose Jaw Times-Herald, Karwacki admits 'beer run' comment ill-advised from StarPhoenix, Karwacki a tough player; Second in a series of profiles of party leaders from StarPhoenix, and Karwacki a tough competitor from Regina Leader-Post, among other articles. I think he is notable for being the leader of the Sask. Liberal party while it went from electing some MLAs to obscurity and the vast number of sources about him allow this to pass WP:GNG. • Delete - 1. WP:GHITS isn't a reason to keep. He's done nothing notable that I can find in the article. Me-123567-Me (talk) 03:22, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep, a leader of a party with legislative representation in a region of a UN nation, this is notable. --Ysangkok (talk) 00:28, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
