The result was Snow close. All of the hallmarks of this being a hoax are there. If anyone can find any evidence that comes up before 2011, we can always WP:REFUND this and re-create it with that additional source. Otherwise this looks to be a pretty clear hoax. This article was raised as a possible hoax by User:Amphicoelias on the Village Pump [1]. I certainly don't think that it was deliberatly created as a hoax, but in digging it seems all of the sources track back to a Daily Chilli article [2]. The Daily Chilli isn't exactly a reliable source on Chinese culture. :) One of the sources, China Daily, has an official stating that the rumoured festival isn't true, I can't find any meaningful hits on Google Scholar or Google Books, and I've yet to find a source for this 1500 year old tradition that predates the Daily Chilli article in 2011. So I'm inclined to call it as a minor internet hoax that found its way into Wikipedia. - Bilby (talk) 13:42, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per WP:GNG: lack of significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. Qwfp (talk) 20:56, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I agree that this looks like an internet hoax that got mistaken for a real event. I haven't found any reliable sources other than the Daily Chilli article either. Novusuna talk 21:09, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, pretty clear WP:HOAX as far as I can see. Lankiveil (speak to me) 04:03, 30 December 2013 (UTC).[reply]
