Keep The article definitely needs work but Google informs us he is notable per WP:BASIC. He has an entry in The Oxford companion to Indian theatre and other significant coverage. Keep Given his inclusion in the oxford companion which states he has been awarded a number of national awards for film, and has directed at least two films which separately received mention in two reliable sources I believe this article passes the notability requirements. Keep added references prove his notability. From personal experience ( I hail from Kolkata where he is based), his works are intermittently covered in vernacular media.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:38, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Keep Passes WP:GNG marginally and as Dwaipayan states there is coverage in the Bengali Language media.His website lists many Bengali films and Drama directed by him . Includes films like Sesh Sanghat starring Jaya Prada and Jackie Shroff the Times of India verifies it.
