Fails WP:SOLDIER and WP:GNG. A Second lieutenant posthumously awarded a Navy Cross is not notable. His role in the sinking of the Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryū in the Battle of Midway is unclear. His role as namesake of the USS Tweedy is set out on that page Mztourist (talk) 03:21, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete does not meet the inclusion criteria for soldiers.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:42, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Played a significant role in a major battle in WW2. Won both the Navy Cross and the Purple Heart. Seems to be enough to pass WP:SOLDIER. Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d (talk) 09:37, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - the google books search only throws up a few passing mentions which suggests lack of sourcing to meet GNG. GraemeLeggett (talk) 12:52, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Not notable on his own. Intothatdarkness 17:18, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Significant role in a tide turning battle. Recipient of the Navy Cross who also has a US Man of War named after him.00:42, 26 January 2021 (UTC)Looper5920 (talk)
What was his significant role? Mztourist (talk) 03:01, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - there is sourcing for this subject and Soldier's just an essay. - wolf 01:21, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SOLDIER is just an Essay, so SIGCOV in multiple RS is required and it doesn't exist, "there is sourcing" is inadequate. Mztourist (talk) 03:13, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Wikipedia notability criteria does not tell us that having a ship named after you should make a subject notable. I did a BEFORE search on this individual and found little or nothing, per the criteria, to make them notable. Saying they played a significant role in a battle, whether they did or not, does not provide evidence of significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources revealing this. Awards may lead to the presumption of notability but presumed notability is a rebuttable presumption and needs to be backed up with evidence. I don't see it in this case. If it's there then provide it and I'll review and may change my decision --ARoseWolf 16:30, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to USS Tweedy. The sourcing is totally inadequate, nor can I find anything better. For someone who allegedly played a "significant role" in the Battle of Midway, his name did not come up once in any of the documentaries or film depictions I've seen, and I've seen plenty.
