Questions[edit]

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
I've written some articles, been a former Assistant Coordinator for the Guild of Copy Editors, but a large part of my contributions here have been with vandalism (and that's the bulk of my use of admin tools as well).
  2. What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
I have somewhere over 200 reports to AIV, and as an admin I'm involved in AIV, RfPP, UAA, and CSD.
  3. Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
I was cleaning up my watchlist when I realized that I had some abuse reports here from over a year ago- turns out that my reports make up a fair amount of the backlog here. Since it seems as if this place is understaffed, I decided that I'd apply and help out, if I'm accepted.

Questions[edit]

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
My contributions to Wikipedia focus on serious research, WikiGnoming, and fighting vandalism. I have never been the subject of any Wikipedia sanctions or investigations
  2. What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
I have extensive experience fighting vandals. I'm one of the top 50 most active Stiki users (#4 in the last 30 days) and I fight vandalism in other ways too. For example, yesterday I reported a paid editor who was promptly blocked, which is not the first time I have gotten a vandal blocked.
  3. Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
I want to help Wikipedia gain greater respectability among the general public. Fighting vandalism is a vital component of that goal.

Questions[edit]

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
    Generally, anti-vandalism, NPP.
  2. What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
Again, anti-vandalism, about 40 edits to AIV (meh). I also have reviewer, rollbacker rights.
  3. Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
Some IPs just get blocked over and over again, but probably should not be indef'd. It's also fun to know how Wikipedia works "behind the scenes" with its various processes and to contribute to it.

Questions[edit]

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
My primary contributions to Wikipedia are in the areas of anti-vandalism, maintenance backlogs, and new page patrolling. I also frequently participate at AfD, help out at DRN, review AfCs, and create articles myself. I also do a lot of "gnoming" here.
  2. What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
I am a heavy vandal-fighter, with over 350 edits to AIV. I also have rollback and reviewer rights on my account. Lastly, I also work with edit filters.
  3. Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
I have encountered many IPs that get blocked and persistently vandalize. According to WP: BP, IPs should not be indefinitely blocked. I would like to join the abuse response team to investigate repeat vandalism done by shared IPs. Thank you for your consideration.

Tarheel95[edit]

  • Contributions- I deal primarily with vandalism, specifically Recent Changes patrol, AfD and CSD, I possess the rollback flag and use huggle to combat vandalism.
  • Experience- over 75% of my editing has something to do with vandalism combat. I have over 2 years experience in dealing with vandalism, yet I still feel I am constantly learning. It is this fact that motivates me to request membership into this project, as I hope to gain interpersonal skills while dealing with vandalism in a friendly manner.
  • Why I'd like to join this project in an effort to combat repeat vandalism, while still maintaining a friendly manner. As stated above, I see this as an excellent way to communicate with other users, and people outside the project, in a civil and professional manner. I have experience in tracing IP addresses due to AIV, and hope to use these skills to fight IP Vandalism.

Voting[edit]

  • Oppose: As answers show that the user doesn't differentiate different emails and phone numbers in WHOIS reports that well. ~~Ebe123~~ → report on my contribs. 11:36, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neutral - I don't believe those are wrong at all, but I need to check. Just because it's not specified doesn't mean it's wrong. The user may have gone out of their way to find additional contact information, I need to verify it, I will then vote accordingly.  JoeGazz  ♂  03:09, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was talking because this user is stating other emails instead of the abuse one. I am not saying it's wrong since it's not specified. ~~Ebe123~~ → report on my contribs. 11:29, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The candidate gave answers where the WHOIS didn't specify, upon that answer, I believe the candidate did further research to find answers. I am going to check the answers that aren't specified in the whois, but please, do not mark things wrong unless they are wrong, just because they're not specified and you don't feel like checking them outside of the whois doesn't mean they're wrong.  JoeGazz  ♂  17:31, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
Generally I edit on NPP and I also fight vandals using Huggle. I have got more than 3,000 edits and most of them are vandalism reverts. AIV threads made by me:

and more.

  1. What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
I am here on Wikipedia for almost 2 years. And most of the time I am busy reverting vandalism. I am familiar with all the rules on Wikipedia. I know what is vandalism and what is not.
  2. Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
To revert repeat vandalism and reduce it by whatever percentage I can. I can also trace IPs to their ISP easily. And now I am requesting you all here to revert the edits that I have accidentally done at Wikipedia:Abuse response/168.174.253.221. But please note, that I had already contacted the ISP and was waiting for the reply.

The contacts mentioned here are not mentioned in the WHOIS as abuse contacts but as normal contacts. But since MikeLynch told me to mention the contacts still, that's why I mentioned them here.--Ankit Maity Talkcontribs 05:31, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

There's no need to do that, all the information to make an informed decision is/will be here. In addition, there is no harm in a user individually contacting an ISP if the case goes unnoticed or isn't handled, most abuse emails are pretty similar. All we need is to make sure we have a page with the case info on it, which we do.  JoeGazz  ♂  17:18, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Regarding the IP Quiz, Ankit, erm, who will you send an email to (or whom will you telephone) if any abuse comes from that address? Lynch7 17:57, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The ISP.--Ankit Maity Talkcontribs 05:11, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, we know that, but what email exactly? "[email protected]", or phone number "+1-904-555-342"? Please mention the contact email address, phone number and physical address of the IP addresses given in the proper places. Lynch7 12:19, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@Ankit, can you provide the contact email address to which you would send the report? (I was asked on talk page to comment on this). You'll want to run a WHOIS on the IP to see all the contact email addresses associated with the IP. Netalarmtalk 05:02, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think I have done that.--Ankit Maity Talkcontribs 15:51, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do any of you have any concerns about User:Ankit Maity ? I'm pretty neutral about it; this was 2 months ago, and the user has shown some sluggishness in comprehending the instructions. Maybe he's more experienced now? Ankit Maity, sorry for the really long delay! Lynch7 18:16, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, for the reply. I have been waiting for the response and I obviously apologize for my sluggishness.--Ankit MaityTalkContribs 13:05, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WE should close this as "no consensus" and you may reapply in a month or so. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 10:57, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
My primary contributions to Wikipedia are patrolling recent changes and combating vandalism with Twinkle and Huggle.
  2. What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
I have rollback rights which conveys that I understand exactly what is and what is not vandalism. Reverting vandalism is something I do on Wikipedia almost every day and so I feel that I have quite a lot of experience with fighting vandalism.
  3. Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
I would like to help Wikipedia even more with vandalism and attempt to prevent it in a professional manner. I also notice that you only have a few volunteers and maybe would need some more. Puffin Let's talk! 09:22, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
Most of my contributions to Wikipedia have been in the Portuguese Wikipedia (tough I started out here). There, and here in a smaller sense, I am very active in fighting vandalism. Also I am active host in the Teahouse here.
  2. What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
Fighting vandalism, reporting users, studying policies.
  3. Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
Primarily, I want to join to get enough experience to get a similar project going in ptwiki. We have quite a lot of repeated vandals and vandals from educational institutions and it seems too me this project works. I am capable of reading whois information and sending out the responses, but I want to get a feel of the whole process, specially teaching these tools to new users.
