Suspected sockpuppets

Last week Unbuttered Parsnip was blocked for 48 hours for edit warring at Naga, Cebu, upon the block's expirey, the edit warring kicked back up again, this time by various IPs that geolocate to the Philippines. After I semiprotected Naga, Cebu, the IPs were editing the fair use rationale at multiple Philippine-related government seals. Generally removing |image has rationale=yes|cat=Seals of Philippine cities. See this IP edit. Yesterday I reblocked Unbuttered Parsnip for a week for vandalism/edit warring while logged out (per WP:DUCK). Now today we have the new user 帅哥英, who is performing the same actions on the fair use images, see this edit. My thought is that there is enough behavioral evidence to link UP-IPs-帅哥英, but would like something more conclusive before extending the block of UP. kelapstick(bainuu) 20:09, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Additional information needed - @Kelapstick: In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. Vanjagenije (talk) 20:15, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Kelapstick: I see no diffs connecting 帅哥英 to Unbuttered Parsnip. Vanjagenije (talk) 20:22, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Vanjagenije, you have to go through the IPs to see the connection, I posted an example of an IP mimicking a UP edit, then the IP went to a file, which was then edited by 帅哥英 in the same manner.--kelapstick(bainuu) 20:31, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The two accounts are  Confirmed. I blocked/tagged the puppet and increased the block on the master to indefinite. In addition to the obvious disruption caused by this individual, the IPs being used by this person are not the IPs that good-faith editors typically use. @Vanjagenije: Hello! This is the same IP you blocked a few weeks ago. If you look here, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:194.75.238.182&diff=prev&oldid=708583354, this user's comments are uncivil therefore violating WP:CIVIL. Anyway my point is, as you see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Naga,_Cebu&diff=prev&oldid=708268684, he keeps on removing the sourced content. He did it again here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Naga,_Cebu&diff=prev&oldid=708574530. This is the exactly the same user who did this:

It's none other User:Unbuttered Parsnip himself. Please advice. Thank you so much. User:HavenHost talk) 3:24, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Suspected sockpuppets

Unbuttered Parsnip was blocked for edit warring, and abusively used of multiple accounts. however the edit warring in Lazaro Mangubat and Madridejos, Cebu Article kicked back up again, this time by various IPs that geolocate to the Philippines. Now today users Mary McAllen and the IP 213.205.252.157 , who are performing the same actions on Lazaro Mangubat Article and Madridejos, Cebu Article, see this edit. My thought is that there is enough behavioral evidence to link UP-IPs-Mary McAllen and IP adress 213.205.252.157 to Unbuttered parsnip showing the behaviour characteristic, of Unbuttered parnsnip Mateothehistorian (talk) 04:13, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Between Mary McAllen's editing history and the editing of the master and known IP socks I have seen a striking similarity of editing interests, editing style, use of English, and attitude to other editors, so much so that I regard this as a WP:DUCK, and I shall block Mary McAllen. The IP address has also almost certainly been used by the same editor, but the relevant edits were nearly two months ago, and both before and after them there have been numerous other, unconnected, edits, so no action is justified there. Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

The suspected sockpuppet accounts have very similar editing patterns, styles, and treatment of other users who may disagree with their edits to the sockpuppet master. It is probable that the sockpuppet master is abusing multiple accounts again. The edit warring has started again in certain articles (e.g Lázaro Mangubat) but now it has spread to other articles. I believe there is sufficient behavourial evidence to link this suspected account to the sockpuppet master. When the user interaction tool was done, there is significant overlap between user:Alice Zhang Mengping, IP 82.203.24.241 and the blocked user, Unbuttered Parsnip in that they edited several locations in the Philippines, particularly locations in Cebu Province and Bohol Province and the topics they edited.

In all these examples, it is likely the account is being used to circumvent the block by mainly pushing their own versions of the page despite objections from other users (e.g edit wars). However, I am not 100% sure if the account is indeed linked to user:Unbuttered Parsnip because while a user back in August 2016 expressed concern that the account is a sock, no formal investigation was done yet. If you need more pieces of evidence or have any questions and concerns, please feel free to ask me. Thanks. Ssbbplayer (talk) 16:47, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The case is  Stale. CU declined.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:09, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence looks good to me. Alice Zhang Mengping blocked indefinitely, and the IP blocked one month. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 14:27, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

On behalf of User:Frietjes, who posted on my talk page about a suspected sockpuppet of Unbuttered Parsnip, I examined the user's editing history in detail. I believe there is sufficient evidence that User:Kangaroo caught is a sockpuppet of Unbuttered Parsnip for a couple of reasons:

  1. Based on the user's editing history, the topics that User:Kangaroo caught edits are similar to Unbuttered Parsnip, and the blocked users Mary McAllen, Alice Zhang Mengping and associated IPs in that Kangaroo caught's edits have been predominantly on settlements related to the Philippines, particularly those in Cebu Province (see each user's editing history).
  2. The user is unusually experienced for an account that only editing on January 25, 2018. There is nothing wrong about this but what strikes me out is that in addition to point 1 mentioned above, this user has a tendency to create a whole bunch of templates with no purpose (other than to make the wiki hard to edit, except for only the most proficient in editing templates), similar to how user:Alice Zhang Mengping used to do. (Examples from Kangaroo caught: Template:Circled number, [ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Module:Location/data/Siquijor&action=history Module:Location/data/Siquijor], Template:PH wikidata/settlement type) and (Examples from Alice Zhang Mengping as a comparison: Template:Areacodestyle PH, Template:PH loc table/penultimate primitive, Template:Climate/temperature. In many cases, these templates are single use (Mostly used in Cebu which the blocked sockpuppetes edit), or not even used at all. This user is probably related to Unbuttered Parsnip in that both edit templates that they are familiar with. Also, the sockmaster, Unbuttered Parsnip did the same too, creating a whole bunch of single use templates.
  3. Similar editing summaries. The user generally uses similar editing summaries related to blocked users such as "corrections", "used more wikidata", "improved cites with archive". (Examples: Iquitos from Kangaroo caught, Alegria, Cebu from Kangaroo Caught, Capitancillo Island using the edit summary "used more wikidata", corrections, and from Unbuttered Parsnip as an example).
  4. Similar editing patterns. The user likes to transclude wikidata template into Philippine related articles, similar to how Unbuttered Parsnip used to do (also same with User:Alice Zhang Mengping). Ssbbplayer (talk) 18:09, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
